First of all, I wish to make it clear that I have no proof of intent to deceive for what I am about to describe. I will describe my own recent experience using the website dvdpricesearch.com and let the reader make up their own mind.

Some months back, I became interested in purchasing a copy of a specific Blu-ray movie. I have used dvdpricesearch.com as a research tool for pricing on DVD's and Blu-ray's for many years and looked up the price of this Blu-ray on dvdpricesearch.com. The lowest price reported BY FAR was at Barnes & Noble (www.barnesandnoble.com), however when I clicked on that price, I found that the price they were selling it for was much higher than dvdpricesearch.com listed.

I sent an e-mail to DVD Price Search, asking about this discrepancy in pricing. I received a prompt response from Terry Huang, the creator of DVD Price Search, who thanked me for spotting this discepancy and went on to explaine that they get their prices from datafeeds provided by the various stores listed on the site. He said he had contacted Barnes & Noble to have them look into this issue ASAP.

This was not the first time I had found a price discrepency such as this. Earlier in the year, I had found a similar discrepency regarding an Amazon.com price. I had also contacted DVD Price Search by e-mail at that time regarding that discrepcency and also received a prompt reply from Terry. That Amazon.com price discrepency was shortly corrected. Barnes & Noble however, seems to be a different story...

Over the next couple months, I checked dvdpricesearch.com a couple times for the referenced Blu-ray movie and every time it reported Barnes & Noble as having the lowest price (by far) and every time I clicked on that price, the price was much higher than was listed at dvdpriceseach.com. As of today, on dvdpricesearch.com, Barnes & Noble is still listed as the BEST DEAL total price for me (though not the lowest price excluding tax and shipping), but when I click on the price, the Blu-ray price on Barnes & Noble is $8.04 more than the price listed on dvdpricesearch.com.

Based on the fact that this incorrect pricing continues to be reported on dvdpricesearch.com, I unfortunately find it difficult to believe that Barnes & Noble is not paying to have their results placed at the top of the list, but again, let me be very clear, I have no proof of this and have no desire to make any false accusations, this is based solely on my lack of understanding of how this could otherwise continue to go on despite the fact that I have reported it more than once.

Unfortunately, even if we accept that dvdpricesearch.com is completely innocent regarding the incorrect pricing reported on their site by datafeeds provided by the various stores, the fact that the prices reported cannot be trusted (at least by SOME stores) makes the site of limited usefulness.

I posted a negative review for barnesandnoble.com on dvdpricesarch.com on based upon the incorrect pricing information I was told they are providing to dvdpricesearch.com, that review was not accepted by dvdpricesearch.com.
