We ordered a custom latex mattress from Flobeds in August 2007 and completed our final core exchange by November 2007.  Initially, we were pretty happy with our purchase with a few exceptions.  The queen topper, which cost several hundred dollars, was actually 2 scrap pieces glued together rather than a single piece cut to queen size, which was a bit disappointing.  However, the topper seemed to function just fine so we let that go.  Within a few weeks of receiving the mattress, the threads started to come loose on the mattress casing, but it seemed to primarily be a cosmetic issue so we let that go as well.  Those issues aside, the mattress served us well for about 4 years.

During the 4th year, the topper began to fall apart.  As the mattress was still under warranty, I contacted the company thinking they would replace the topper.  Instead, they simply sent me a can of spray adhesive.  I contacted the company to complain, as the topper was falling apart and there is no way it could be glued back together, but was told that it was their policy to provide the adhesive and nothing more.  Since I couldn't repair the topper, I had to remove it from the bed.

Once the topper was removed from the bed, we quickly realized that the sinking mattress was not the defective topper as we initially suspected, but the latex cores themselves.  The mattress is sagging terribly and causing my wife and me incredible back pain.  Considering that we paid several thousand dollars for this mattress, which only lasted less than 6 of the 20 years promised by Flobeds, I would highly recommend that you shop elsewhere.

Customer Problem Fixed with replacement 2 inch topper

When Erik posted this on our Facebook, we responded with this:

Good Morning Erik,

I’m sorry you’re not getting the support you need from your mattress.  We are here to help you get it right.    We are a company that prides ourselves in going the extra mile for our customers.

Regarding the special 2” topper you ordered, you are covered. Our warranty says we will replace or repair. A minor separation is usually easier for both you and us to repair in the home with adhesive. (You said your topper was made up of 2 scrap pieces… definitely not.   It wasn’t until around 2009 that 60x80 talalay latex molds were available to us. Before that every piece of talalay latex produced came out of a 40x80 mold, to make a 60 x 80 topper there had to be a seam, even in the convoluted.)  So call me on Monday or whenever it is convenient.  If you can take a picture of the topper and email it to me that will help.

Our queen size deluxe latex mattress should hold its shape and firmness.  You  should not be feeling what you describe.  Over ten years it will soften about 5%.  But what you are describing is not right.  We have a process we can go through with you to determine if there is a defective component. More times than not, we find it to be a box spring in a queen size mattress, however if any piece of latex turned out to be breaking down, we will stand behind our warranty and replace it.

There is a basting stitch on the cover that is used to hold the pieces together as the cover is sewn, and as you said, it is cosmetic.  If you can take a picture of that I will make sure that is what we are seeing.

Please give us a call Monday or at your convenience and let us help you fix this.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention.

Dewey

We arragned to replace the topper layer and cotton quilted to wool cover of Eriks FloBed that he purchased 08/13/2007.  Erik also was concerned with the firmness of two of his natural latex cores.  We sent replacements of these also.  When I called Erik said there was a noticeable difference with topper put on.  He went on to say life has gotten in the way of him replacing 2 core layers, but the bed is better now.
