Freedom Motor Club of Spring, Texas, run by Mark Stevens Jr, is not a legitimate 501c3, and never has been though he will tell you differently. The IRS has no record of them past or present. When pressed to provide a form 990 (which is required to be filed with the IRS annually), he hems and haws and never actually produces it. He also fails to produce a tax id number. There have been several public efforts to get him to produce this (or any verifiable) paperwork by donors and associates on Facebook, and there's always some BS reason they can't come up with it.

The street in front of his house is filled with half a million dollars worth of fancy vehicles, all of which were purchased in the last 2-3 years, which is coincidentally the amount of time that Freedom Motors has been in existence. Stevens holds a "normal" job, not one which would allow for that much extra cash. Most of these vehicles were purchased in cash through social media (FaceBook MarketPlace being a big one), and feature lots of aftermarket upgrades, some of which were strong-armed from donors and event sponsors. Sponsor a Freedom Motors event and discover that you also have to upgrade his wheels for a deep discount, or risk losing your deposit and being publicly disparaged on their Facebook group.

The organization says it aids Veterans, and while it does do a little bit of this, the majority of the cash it collects goes right into Stevens's pockets.

Beware, and only donate to charities who are listed on the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search site. Freedom Motor Club can't be found there!
