I needed some repairs around the house, and searched handymen in Northern NJ.  I found Handyman Heroes and gave them a call

The person sent to estimate my work showed up on time...the first day.  I was given an estimate, which did not include materials to be used.  I gave a deposit  of $321.00, the first of three for the work to be done, plus tax.  I had to order flooring, so there was a gap of about 10 days until I contacted him saying materials had arrived.

Plans were made for work to begin.
The evening before he was suppose to start, I got a call from him saying he didn't have his vehicle, and that he would not be able to make it the next day.  Aggrivated and angry, I agreed to wait on his call back for another start date.  He called me back that same evening (very late) and said he would be able to make it after all, and would arrive to begin work around 9:30a.m. the next day.
He did not arrive the next morning at the time agreed upon, nor did he call.  I called him, but he did not answer.  About half an hour later he called me (it is now 10:30; I had called the main office, with no reply!) and asked if I called him.  I said YES where was he??  He's "on the way"...
He finally arrived with another worker at 11:20 a.m.!!  He says he needs the second payment from me before he starts work
My insurance company said work did not have to continue further that day.  The two workers were in my home a total of 1 1/2 hours.  I was told to sign a paper stating the work was "complete" and I told him I was owed for the "day" rate of $490, since they were only there a short time and nothing was complete.  I was told "dont worry...this doesn't mean anything...just sign off so we can leave"
Since I needed more than a handy man, I was assigned a contractor by my insurance company.  When I called Handyman Heroes to inquire about my refund, I was told I had to pay the daily rate, whether they worked an hour or all day, and that it was in my contract.  I said OH NO...it is NOT in the contract anywhere, and I was never told any such thing!  I would never have agreed to it.
So I only got back a little over $160 for work that was never done.
*********BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY! IT IS A FRANCHISE IN MANY STATES**************.
I considered small claims but it would cost me more to proceed that way than the monies I am owed.
ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOUR CONTRACT IS CLEAR . VERBAL QUOTES ARE NOT LEGAL!!
!!!!!!HANDYMAN HEROES, YOU ARE A SHAMEFUL RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!
