I took my Great Grandmothers diamond engagement ring, that has been passed down to me and is over 100 years old, to Kay Jewelers in Zanesville, OH to have a crack in the shank repaired.  After speaking with the employee of Kays he recommended a new half shank be done (which did not touch the scrolling of the sides of the ring) and I approved that.

The ring was promised to be back on 2/26, on 2/25 I received a call that the gold was on back order and it would be in on 2/27 or 2/28.  By Monday evening 3/2, I had not heard from them, so I called and was told that the repair specialist they called in to work on my ring was out for the day and I would receive a call in the morning.  I received a call on Tuesday, 3/3 at 12:30pm stating when the sides where authorized to be cut into the ring broke into pieces.

I informed the employee that I never authorized the sides to be cut.  I was informed that he didn't know who authorized the sides to be cut then, and that the repair shop would try to piece it back together or make a replica.  First this is a filigree, 100 year old family heirloom that can not be recreated, this ring has been my life since I was a little girl and it was now destroyed, because someone, other than me, the owner, authorized to cut off part of the scrolling/detailed gold on the sides.

After speaking with the assistant store manager she informed me that their employee Kaitlyn authorized the repair shop to cut off part of the sides to thicken the shank and when the repair shop did this that is when the ring broke.  No one from the jewelery store called to ask me if they could cut into the scrolling along the sides of the ring and no one from the repair shop or the jewelery store called me to tell me the ring had broke.

The repair shop then started adding gold to the ring to try to solder it back together, without me knowing.  After demanding a meeting with the District Manger of Kay Jewelers (who is owned by Signet Jewelers) and with Kaitlyn who authorized, without my knoweledge to have the sides cut off the meeting was finally scheduled for Friday, 3/13 at 4:30pm at the Kay store in Zanesville, OH the DM, Nikki Roman insisted on bringing the District Manager Design and Service Center, Catherine with her.

I informed Nikki that because of their employees negilgence I am now suffering panic attacks and depression over this and informed her of how Kaitlyns actions ruined my life and my dream of one day giving this ring to my only biological daughter.  The ring is no longer filigree because of Kaitlyns actions and it is no longer worth the value it once was because it was a 100 year old filigree ring, and the gold that was the orginal ring is worth more than the gold they are piecing onto the ring.

I informed Nikki there needs to be some king of compensation for them devaluing what the ring was worth and for the emotional distress that I will now have for the rest of my life because of Kaitlyns actions.  We met on 3/13 with Nikki and Catherine and we spoke of a potential plan to try to fix the ring, and Catherine stated that the ring will never be the same or worth what it was worth before it broke and that there is no gurantee that they will be able to fix it.

The employee who authorized the ring to be cut was at this meeting and she did indicate that it was not protocal to authorize something without asking the customer and that she is supposed to go through the stores repair assistant manager, dodie, and that she did not do that.  When the repair shop called and mentioned cutting into the sides of the scrolling to thicken the shank she authorized them to go ahead and do it.

After this Nikki didn't have any kind of compensation plan for what they had done.  She instructed that it was passed to Corporate and she is waiting to hear from them.  We asked Nikki, the DM if there is something on their fine print that states that they are allowed to authorize things to be done to a customers jewelery without contacting the customer first and she stated no, there is nothing stating that we are allowed to authorize something that the customer didn't ask for.

I informed Nikki and Catherine that they can hold the ring in their vault in PA, and wait to fix it until I receive some king of compensation for the devaluing of the value of the ring and the emotional distress I will now suffer for the rest of my life (in which I had to go to the doctor and get put on depression medication) because of Kaitlyn's negligence.  I received a call from Nikki on 3/13 at 8:30pm stating my ring is in the vault and they will wait for my instructions on fixing it.

On 3/16 at 5:53pm, I received a call from Nikki stating she submitted the information to corporate and has not heard back from anyone and wanted to know if they can go ahead and start fixing the ring.  I stated no, I am waiting to fix it until I get a compensation plan from them.  On 3/20 at 2:04pm I received a call from Nikki stating still nothing from corporate and she will call when she hears something.  It is now 3/25 and nothing, and Nikki has been left 2 voicemails one on 3/23 and 3/24 and still nothing.  I now suffer panic attacks and depression because of something someone else decided to do to something that meant everything to me and when I left my ring with them they was instructed to only fix the shank and nothing more.
