King Marketing, Inc. is as low as it gets.

Looking for a marketing job here in Houston I have run into tons of door to door sales companies and I was pleased to find King Marketing advertise no door to door and even better.... BASE SALARY + commission! Yes this is what I was looking for...

But wait...

Why do they have no phone number or contact info on their website? Why is the address on their Facebook page different from the address on there website? Why can't I find a phone number to call to let them know I was interested in a applying for position and when I do call in who the hell am I asking for!? RED FLAG 1 !

Still interested, I applied to one of their ads on careerbuilder.. And by one of their adds I mean out of the 25 posted. But hey, I need a job, I like sales, so if they offer a base and commission I am going after it! RED FLAG 2!

I get a generated response email immediately after I apply saying they had viewed my qualifications and I was supposed to call them for an interview? And even better.. A big DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL WAS PLASTERED AT THE BOTTOM. Weird? RED FLAG 3! Ok call me crazy at this point but I'm still in..

Flash forward two days - my second interview- I felt good beating gout the 4 other people that had interviews scheduled at the same time as me yesterday come to find out the base pay is minimum wage and the position is still in fact full commission. It's a drawer stater where if you have a bad week pushing products on the customer you are harassing you will get paid your "draw base" that you have to pay back out of the next big pay check you get... Ultimately, if you don't make commission you will be jobless and broke in 2 weeks. People applying to this position - you will be standings in retailer pushing the product of the day. Kind of like those guys at the mall that always try to get you to try their new hand lotion. At least those people are honest. The man interviewing me would lie cheat and steal to get a sale and that's what really bothered me the most. If he needed money so bad he should join me on the job hunt together because their was no way I was accepting King Marketing's offer!

My take away is they are liars and cheaters and will tell you anything to take the position.. They probably had a recent name change due to the separate addresses and still no phone number on the website and Facebook.

I don't want to bash the position or what these people do for a living but be honest. You wasted my time. Time is money. I would rather be a garbage woman with integrity the work for such a deceitful company.. If that many lies are uncovered on an interview I wonder what else there is out there?

A lot of ex employees googling their old company??

AUTHOR: Anon - ()

POSTED: Sunday, May 12, 2013

AGAIN... I never bashed the company that outsources you to market in retailers... I expressed my dismay for KING MARKETING blatantly lying about salary on their ads... The interviewee lying to a customer in front of me.. and the general shadiness of your company as a whole. (or should I say ex-company) because most of you are ex-employees that google the company you used to work for... that makes sense... oh wait, NO IT DOESN'T! You are all employees trying to make your company sound legit.

Clearly this is a CATTLE CALL for recent college grads because all of you "ex-employees" mentioned the fact that I shouldn't expect to get a salaried job with no experience.. guess what I do have experience and I have worked with reputable companies that don't put non-existant salaries on their job postings. You all assumed I had no experience because that is clearly the only people that work for your company if you all assumed I was a recent college grad.

King Marketing is an independent office of SMART CIRCLE and one google search of "directv and costo" will pull up numerous complaints of customers being lied to by your representatitves:

LIKE THIS

OR THIS (smart cirlce and directv)

OR THIS

so go ahead and tell me how honest your company is and how you have so much integrity... the reason you do not put any information about the companies you represent on your website is because they do not want to be responsible for the horrible complaints about the independent smart circle offices just like your precious king marketing. There are many more links where that came from.

you are all either the manager or "hr" for King Marketing trying to save your name.. do yourself a favor and stop rebuttling my complaint so I don't have to read your fake stats and how "awesome" the company you pretend to no longer be working for is..

PS. Every time someone responds or rebuttles it will only will boost the visibility on google when people search your shady company.. so really you are the fool.

#5 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Dont argue with fools

AUTHOR: Jason former employee, current prom - ()

POSTED: Monday, April 29, 2013

I would like to first say I am a former employee current promotion of this office. You have your facts mixed up all together. First off you applied to work for us so I dont understand why there is such a problem. If what we do isnt your cup of tea thats fine but for you to try to go out of your way to get spread inaccurate information just goes to show what type of person you are. I know your unemployed but you need to find better things to do with your time. I started with this company in Dec. 2010 with minimal management experience and no knowledge on how to successfully run a business. Within 8 months they trained and developed me and I am currently running another successful office here in texas.

Just because you went to school doesnt mean your entitled to any type of position. You will soon see that this isnt the old school and a degree really doesnt mean much now a days. I interview people on a daily basis who not only have more credentials than you but also EXPERIENCE which you dont have. This company allows you to get your foot in the door and allows you to be able to work your way up based on the work you put in.

Allot of people miss opportunity because it does look like work, which with you is definitely the case. Now as far as us doing dishonest tactics and lying to customers, you know as well as I do  Costco and Sams club both require members to pay to shop there. They pride themselves on customer experience as well as customer service. Why in the world would they invite us into their establishment to talk to their members if we were misleading them in any way????

You mentioned that you would rather be a "garbage lady" you should really apply because with your no experience limited schooling and ignorant state of mind that may be a better fit. I apologize if you felt it was a waste of time but thats part of the interviewing process your not going to work for every job you interview with, you would know that if you had experience in the real world. I wish you luck in your career endeavors and hope you find your dream job that you can walk into with just your degree...

#4 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Dont argue with fools

AUTHOR: Eddie former employee, current prom - ()

POSTED: Sunday, April 28, 2013

I wanted to provide some input on the original post. I am a former employee of this office, I graduated the management training program and have been running my own office for over a year now. For you to go out of your way to try and slander this company definitely speaks volumes about your character. I'm curious to see what type of position you actually aquire with the mentality you have. For someone like yourself with no experience and just out of school I would think you would want to get your foot in the door and you would understand that just because of your degree your not gonna just walk into a six figure income. I interview people on a daily basis with experience plus schooling and they are unemployed. School honestly doesnt mean anything nowadays this isnt the oldschool, and you will soon realize that. Anyhow this company offers an opportunity to those that are willing to work hard. It is commission based and we do work retail. There is no smoke screen from day 1 we take you out to the retailer to show you exactly what we do. I can assure you the retailers we work inside of would not allow us inside there store if we were misleading customers in anyway. Costco, Sams club, walmart, frys, best buy all invite us into there stores to talk to their customers. Im sure you'd agree you'd have to have a pretty impressive resume in order to work with these brands. You are blatantly lying about one of the team leaders in that office deliberately lying to a member. We staff these stores on a daily basis dont you think mislead customers would complain to store management?? You are pretty much saying walmart , costco sams frys best buy all dont know how to do business cause if we were all that you say they'd be jeopardizing there brand. I had limited schooling, knew nothing about running my own business. They trained and developed me and I have been successfully running my own office for over a year. I made six figures last year first time ever.  This is not a cattle call by any means the purpose of the actual interview is to go into detail with what we do. Our admins job isnt to go into detail over the phone. You mentioned being a garbage truck driver in your post go ahead and apply you'd probably be a better fit doing that. I know your unemployed but you should find better things to do with your time then trying to stir up non sense.

Just to clarify

Our recruiting does take in many resumes a day, those resumes are reviewed by people who are hired to do only that. After the review process there is an automated email sent out giving you time to call in if you choose. If you do not make the phone call within a few hours you are then contacted via phone from the manager of our HR team to schedule an interview. We do many interviews a week and hire a small fraction of those we bring in. Considering most of our employees and managers have college degrees and have excelled either in the sales field or another field of their choice I'd say we do have standards.

Just to let you know, MLM is a type of marketing that would require you to invest in your growth. We ask for time and effort. Yes, in order for our company to grow we do need people to be able to manage retail markets. If you consider companies like Verizon or Enterprise who also run management programs that you move up through the ranks and manage a store location MLM then I guess we would fall under this.

If you do not believe people make good money doing what we do then you are countering what you are saying about making money through sales. It's pretty hard for a company to spread to 50+ countries in less than 30yrs if there aren't plenty of people making money. At lease I determine my self worth on a weekly basis and don't have a company telling me $25 an hour is all I'm worth. I'll take my pay rate any day over what I can get through any company's hourly system.

I'm also not seeing how you are to be jobless and broke in 2 weeks if you don't make a commission check. Our hourly is above most sales companies that offer commission and our commissions pay out pretty well. Also, we don't have set quotas so if you are doing anything productive for sales you still have a job and you received you hourly checks from your time spent working. I'd say it is difficult to make judgement on a companies employment tactics and the company's loyalty to their employees when you have never worked for the company.

Also, there are pretty strict guidelines to the truth being told to customers. Considering that there are no price increases for months to come with what we sell and if that customer comes back into the retail location with a price that does not match the paperwork we sent them with we have to take care of that customer. No major retail location allows people to sell products in a fashion that will create upset customers. It took 5 year to move into over 2,000 retail locations nationwide as a permanent set up. Lying to customers does not allow that type of growth to take place. If you did have an issue with what was said by one person I'd hope you could separate one person from an entire company.

Exactly what I wish your company did up front

Any business is going to have information on their website in order for to attract employees and potential clients. So your phone number is available for only those who are job seeking? CATTLE CALL! I have nothing against sales/marketing and if you read my full post I clearly state that. All I am saying is your adds say base plus commission which is a good way to skate around the truth. Your email to have me call in is appalling to be quite honest if you are "all about personal contact" then maybe the hr manager should call instead of sending a generic email. IF you make no mention of anything you saw on my rsum or any personal information other then my name- you are running a cattle call just bring in whoever isn't creeped out enough to call in and make their own appointment.

Clearly you didn't read my post .. Sales make the world go round. Every organization needs to be selling something to someone. And I clearly was not on the interview with you we would have had a lot to talk about being athletes. But sweetly unless you're going pro - you are not uses you're physical ability to makes sales you're using team/cult culture to motivate yourself to make others feel like part of the team and get out on someone team and once that person has a big enough team they can open an office.. Classic MLM.

Maybe if I did have my shadow interview with you I would have not witnessed my interview blatantly lying to a customer when they asked about increased rates during the contract (trying not to drop big corporations name). Later telling me on the side that once it is installed he gets paid for it so he doesn't have to tell them about the increases that will hit their bills in months to come. I am interviewing for your company and you are lying to the customers you sign up to get a sale. That sounds like desperation to me.. I don't think someone is making as much money as they say they are...

I am all for sales and if you are good at sales your you can make a TON of money! This post was to warn people of the deceptive practices used by your company to steal potential employees time.. No applicants are special. You will bring in whoever will accept . Build them up on false promises of a non-existing base pay and hopefully they quit their restaurant job to work for King Marketing before they even realize what's really going on. I'm not hating on the nature of this business. I'm hating on the way king marketing runs their "recruiting" Just because you say no door to door sales doesn't mean you aren't as shady as all those other companies that do tell the same lies to get people in the door.

Straighten out the facts

AUTHOR: Petey - ()

POSTED: Friday, April 26, 2013

I'd just like to say I've worked with this company for some time now and absolutely love what I do. We by no means sell the product I the day. We work with a major Fortune 500 company inside of Fortune 500 retailers. In pretty sure if we we would lie, cheat and steal for a sale companies with respectable names like COSTCO (number one major retail location for customer service), Sam's club, both membership companies who are paid to provide good and honest customer service, would not allow us to staff every store location nationwide. Yes it is a draw system. Like almost every sales job to do have to actually sell the product to keep your job. I'm not sir where you came up with minimum wage considering we don't have one sales position that is minimum wage. My job offers me the ability to work with people inside a store location an even if I do have a down week I do get a check. Yes, there may be an address that is different on the website vs. the ad and the email that was sent out but we moved offices a mile down the road to a large office. Sorry to disappoint you the company has never changed its name. Yes I do know we are all about person to person contact so we prefer all communication via phone instead of email. The phone number is on all of our 4 ads out along with the email we send after we look over your rsum.
Who knows...maybe the 4 yrs I spent playing a Division 1 sport taught me a little more about working for success and normal competition. All I know is I love what I do, will be doing it for a long time and it has givin me the ability to be comfortable financially and not complain about a job I didn't even get when there are other people working that same job all over the country. I find it says a lot about a person who is talking down about another persons job when they don't have one themselves.
