I was selected to participate in a focus group. Litigation Focus Groups, who was administering the event, promised to pay a stipend, for participaion, although the amount would be drastically reduced from a low three-figure amount to a nominal two-figure amount for any attendee who was sent home without being allowed to participate after showing up. So that's one problem, but it's not the one I'm reporting.

Three days before the scheduled event, an email was sent addressing compensation for parking. I don't have a car, and since costs are associated with riding public transportation just as costs are associated with driving and parking, I asked the facilitator if, in the name of fair and euitable treatment for all, they would be reimbursing for bus fare. (A different focus-group organizer who was reimbursing to $20 for parking reimbursed me $20 for a bus pass, so this is not an unreasonable request.) The response was "We are only able to cover parking at the location of the event. We don’t normally do any reimbursement for travel to the event."

So... the money that drivers get paid for parking isn't going to go into their gas tanks or be used to pay for using a charging station at some point to replace the fuel that they used to drive to the event?

No matter, this is discriminatory, logistically unsound, unethical, and a demonstration of ill will.  It could be racially discriminatory if one takes into consideration that perhaps, statistically, people of color are more likely to ride public transportation to get to and from the event. They already know I'm European-American, but that's not the point here.

I immediately cancelled on the focus group and requested that my information be scrubbed from the organization's database, as I don't foresee any circumstances in which I would want to have any kind of relationship with them going forward.
