I called Lustine on 6/23/15 inquiring about my vehicle and an estimate on a trade-in appraisal. I called and spoke with a gentleman, explained my situation, and he stated, and I quote, "You are looking really close to cutting even on the negative equity." I questioned him because I wasn't sure he was correct, and he again stated, "I believe we'll get rid of the negative equity."

Earlier in the week, I found a vehicle on their website with a $9,100 pricetag. I decided to make the 2.5 hour trip, knowing I wouldn't cut even on the negative equity, but I accepted it.

I made the trip, test drove the car, and sat down for the paperwork. I sit down to be offered the retail price of the vehicle which is listed at over $12,000. I questioned the dealer, and he stated that the $9,100 was only if I qualified for it. What? I need to qualify for a low APR, not the total price of a car. The dealer then explained that I only qualified if I were a veteran or a current student. Needless to say, I didn't quality. Not only that, but they didn't come close to getting rid of the negative equity, and my vehilcle is still in "very good" condition. Did I mention that I told them I would not pay more than a particular amount, and their first offer was nearly twice my request? It's not that they couldn't do it, it's their way of throwing you a curve ball coming at you with a high offer, and returning with a lower, original offer, which will look like a better deal, but will be what they wanted all along.

That said, they will false advertise and downright lie to you to get you through the door. It's a shame, or should I say, sham. They claim to have a 72% retention rate, and after seeing their way of business, I'm pretty sure that's also a lie.

I received an email from the Finance Manager of Lustine on 7/2 stating he needed to speak with me as soon as possible regarding financing of the vehicle. I returned his call and he stated, "I got you a better rate and wanted to run it by you." He did have a better rate, but it would decrease the term and increase the payment. I did not agree to the new term, and he quickly asked, "Well, did you finance it through your bank like you said you would?" I never, not once, stated I was going to finance it through my bank. Why would they approve a deal, only to try pulling it a week later? Did I mention the lien on my trade-in is already paid? At this point, according to him, I have a trade-in with no lien, and a new vehicle that can't be financed. Needless to say, I told him I don't have financing available, and I didn't know what else to say to him. He quickly said, "I need to speak with my manager, and I'll call you back." He never called back. I have since emailed him and his manager to keep a hard copy of the conversation.

Things You DON'T Know!

Let's take a look at this wonderful deal.  You wanted to get rid of "negative equity", in other words, you wanted to trade in a car you STILL owed money on.  What would happen if you would do this?  Would they just take your trade-in and let it sit on their lot forever and rust away?  Of course not!  They would either sell it as a used car...sell it at the auction...or, junk it.  For them to be able to do ANY one of those, they would need to have a CLEAR TITLE, meaning, no lienholder.  Currently, since you STILL owe money on that car, the lienholder is who you owe the money to.  For that lienholder to remove their name as lienholder, they would need to be PAID whatever amount you STILL owe them!  In other words, the dealer would write them a check to pay off the car...THEN...add that amount to the current loan so they are repaid! In order to make it look you were getting such a wonderful deal, (and hoping you're too dumb to figure it out), they would write the new loan for a long term so the payments are lower!  Bottom line, you would be paying for TWO cars but driving ONLY ONE!  You would be upside down in this deal as well.  Second point...the dealer told you IN ADVANCE the level of their HONESTY and INTEGRITY by telling you they are playing the BOGUS, ADD-ON, PHONEY FEE game.  Its right on their website!  When someone buys a car there, the "price" of the car is nothing more than an OBVIOUS lie!  They have ZERO INTENTION of selling the car at the marked "price" because its ALL B. S.  What they do is charge a PHONEY FEE of $599 to make up for it!  Of course, they give it an official sounding name in hopes that you're too stupid to fall for their CON-GAME.  They call it a "processing" fee.  No...its a BOGUS, ADD-ON, PHONEY FEE because they are part of the Sleazy American Car business.  When was the last time you paid a "processing fee" at McDonalds, Walmart or any business which does not try to DEFRAUD its customers?  No, you never did but its a mainstay in the Sleazy American Car Business which is top heavy with liars, con-artists and other assorted slime.
