On 01/10/2019, I received a MetLife billing statement regarding my auto insurance, indicating a 50% rate increase.

On 01/11/2019, I called MetLife and was told that the increase was due to an accident  I had on 07/06/2016. My MetLife Agent told me (for the first time since the 2016 accident) that MetLife and State Farm had agreed to jointly pay a passenger, in the vehicle that hit me, who claimed she was injured. This, after my agent had agreed, multiple times within the first few months after the accident, that MetLife would not make any payout regarding the accident and if anything changed, he would immediately notify me. MetLife did not live up to that agreement and I was never informed about a 07/26/2018 payout which, in effect agreed that I was at fault.

Immediately after the accident, I reported the details of the accident to my MetLife agent.  MetLife came to my home and took multiple photos of my truck that clearly showed the other driver hit me as opposed to her claim on the accident report that I hit her.  I had an eye witness who told the investigating officer that he saw the accident and that the other driver ran the red light and hit me.  The other driver provided the investigating officer with phone numbers of two witnesses who she said couldn't wait for the officer to arrive at the scene.

However, as I was never notified until 2.5 years after the accident that MetLife and State Farm agreed to settle out of court, I never had the opportunity to have the accident investigated by a professional who could have proved that the driver of the car that hit me was speeding. She stated on the accident report that she was going 15 mph.  Her vehicle was a 2001 Hunda weighing abour 2900 lbs and my truck is a 1987 F150 4X4 weighing over 5500 lbs.  When she hit me she lifted the right side of my truck about 12 inches off the ground, sliding it sideways for two feet, and causing it to end up 180 degrees in the opposite direction when it came back down.  The impact also caused the tailgate to fly off the truck.

I have been driving for over 62 years and this was the only collision I have ever had. I also have never had any points assessed against my liscense. I thought that my insurance company would be protecting my interests.  However, MetLife broke their word to me.  Because I never had the opportunity to have the accident investigated by a professional, I ultimately had to pay $3700.00 to have my truck repaired.  I am amazed that an insurance can get away with failure to notify me that they had settled my case and I only found out 2.5 years after the accident by checking why my insurance rate had increased by 50%.
