I took my vehicle to Midas because the check engine light was coming on and car sputtering. They removed and replaced the fuel sensor and also recommended the speed sensor be replaced.

I picked up the car near closing time and noticed it was smoking on the way home, but attrbuted that to the repairs.

The next day on the way to work noticed the car running much worse and still smoking. I was enroute to drop this car off at Midas when suddenly the car took off on its own. The only way I narrowly escaped death and burning up was when I was able to finally rip the key from the ignition allowing the door to open and windows to work again. The local fire department and police department were dispatched as well as the state police.

I called and spoke to the manager of Midas, John, while they were fighting the fire. He wanted me to have the car towed there to see if it was their fault. I explained it was still burning and that the tow company would be hauling the shell of the burned up car to their place. He gave no concerns that I almost just died. Finally, he said he would speak to his boss, later found out to be Dale, the District Manager. Acronym for franchise owner really.

I shot an email to their corporate office after no response. The next day Dale called and asked me to fax him pictures and documents that I had. He called back the next day and said the claim was denied because he could not determine it was their fault. "The tow truck driver could not determine how the fire started" he said after calling them. Since when is the tow truck driver the expert on re-enactment of shabby repairs.

I was just asking for my repair money back and payment for the fire department bill figuring to meet them halfway. Never asked for my car value to be replaced.

I was in the process of relocating to another state, which I have done, thus can not file with small claims court. 

Finally, a twist to the story was I had received a voicemail from a Mikey who works there. He said it was very important that I call him back on his personal cellphone right away and that I had just left the now closed shop. Problem is my cellphone carrier did not give me the message until the next time while enroute to Midas to check out the repairs again. How much you want to bet he called to tell me that forgot to hook up something or put something back.

They got away with this but I want to warn others to be careful when going to this place.
