I am about to send a certified letter to the Attorney General and the Bar association. I am very upset about the way your operation manager Bob Brooks spoke to me today Tammy's supervisor in your office in Syosset. I looked at your company online and I saw a ton of complaints against you. I called you to settle a judgement on an account that is over 10 years old that was bought by Asset Acceptance for pennies on the dollar. I would still like to settle this account. Your operation mgr basically made me feel like he would be inflicting bodily harm to me, a family man with 3 children, who called your firm to settle a debt. I asked who his supervisor was and he would not give it to me, I spoke to the secretary and she told me that it was Gerald Flynn. I asked him where the office was located and I wanted to come there and settle this debt and work it out and he went on a tangent saying to bring it on, and screaming and carrying on saying things that made me feel as if i went there that he would inflict bodily harm to me. Although I owe a debt from that many years ago, that does not give anyone the right to speak to me that way or treat me like that or try to instill fear in me, because i wanted to sit down and go over the debt and work out terms and a settlement. I will take this as far as I need to to make sure I feel better about this. This is wrong. I have an attorney friend looking into the judgement that was filed, because i do not think I was properly served and that is why I never appeared in court. I cannot imagine a debt that is 4400 originally is now 9k and I do not beleive the interest that was charged was just. On top of that I received 2 settlement letters in the last year for a fraction of the now 9k balance that was offered to me today, is this a bate and switch, before I was threatened with physical harm if I went down there. What kind of operation are you running, what kind of employees are you hiring. Are these thugs, or people that represent your lawfirm. This is an operations mgr who treats the american public like this. This is rediculous and I am very upset.

What to do about this debt collection agency!

I have dealt with this agency before. The first thing you should do is get a tape recorder for your phone. Then call them back and record the conversation. If it is anything like you described then they are in serious violation of the FDCPA. At this point you can use that as proof that they are violating your rights. If you need to speak to me about how to do this or what else you can do please call me as I would more than happy to help you.

I would send the letter. The way this idiot treated you over the phone is not right.I would also send a letter if an attorney spoke to me that way. If he or she gets disbarred I have no sympathy for them they brought it upon them selves.
To the last response thank you for correcting me I meant to say file a complaint against this law office . How the person who filed this report was treated by this lawfirm is not right.
If a lawfirm threatened me that way I would write a letter to the bar about getting him or her disbarred .

Steph...Bar Association complaints must be in writing, and...

There is no such thing a "talking to someone" at the bar assoc. The ONLY way they take a complaint is in writing. And, one complaint is unlikely to get them dis-barred.
Also, the Attorney General is not the place for consumers to file complaints. They CANNOT represent individual consumers. The purpose of the Attorney General is to advise government officials & government agencies. They will represent the people in the form of a class action in some cases if there are enough complaints.
Each state has a consumer protection division which is where individual consumers need to file complaints. Also send one to the FTC.
The remedy for FDCPA and FCRA violations is a court of law. And, the burden lies on the consumer/debtor to get it there. This means you have to prepare and file your own lawsuit, or get an attorney.
There is a maximum of $1000 in statutory damages allowed, plus costs if awarded.
I have actually gone the distance in these matters and have been paid.
