Polk State College, Nursing Dept. Polk Community College, Nursing Dept. POLK STATE COLLEGE discriminated against me as a minority, and failed me for providing emergency treatment to save a patient. Winter haven, Florida

I attended Polk State Community College nursing program in Spring 2009. I was one of 10 males in a class of 100. The books that were used demonized men, as they were written by feminists nurses. After I spoke out about trying to provide us students with a neurtral gender equality book I began to feel the discrimination. I had female classmates complain that I was not sensitive to their emotions. They complained to the Nursing Director who instead of verifying the comments, issues a warning to the male students. I asked her if she thought that she was being an enabler, by allowing females to come gossip and complain about men to her. She stated that she was not. I asked her that isn't that the job of a Dean of students to handle complaints. She did not answer. My biggest blow to my nursing education came when a patient started having a respritory failure when I and another student were moving her.

I immediately gave her oxygen and stabilized her, as I had been taught as an EMT. The handouts from this Nursing school also state to never withhold oxygen, but I was failed that day for not calling for help when the patient was in trouble. A few weeks later, the same clinical instructor attempted to steal medical supplies from Bartow Regional Hospital, where she worked, to give to her favorite students to practice skills. She came to the students upset because she had been caught by a Nun who worked for our school and her plan was ruined. Then, after passing all of my written tests, including my final, my dosage tests, pharmacology class and online quizzes, I met with my clinical instructor who informed me, that I had failed Clinical which results in a complete F, even though she had no explanation why, and that I had been giving praise repeatedly during clinical post conferences. I appealed my decision to the Director of Nursing who could not explain my failure other than to report what the clinical teacher had told her, without any investigation. I did appeal my grade to the Dean of Math Sciences who also a feminist and shares an office with the Director of Nursing.

The final let down was a adademic commtee setup by the Vice President of the College which included 1 student, 8 faculty including one nursing teacher, and 4 administrative personnel. The Vice President had informed me previously that there would not be any nursing staff on the board due to a conflict in interest because they would be forced to rule against the Director of Nursing, which was their boss. After presenting my testamony and being ridiculed by one of the board for having a moral compass. He stated that if you gave oxgyen to a patient, and are answering to a higher authroity, are you prepared to pay the price for doing so. I did pay the price. The committee did not overturn the failing grade, nor did it have any interest in the promises that were made to me and the class by the clinical instructor that "no one will fail clinical", and that she had the power to change grades, which she did for others, stating to me that "I gave them out, I can take them back".

Lastly, the college did not have any problems with their staff stealing supplies from the hosptial. I was not allowed to bring my star witness whom I requested, the Nun who was there at the time, but she was out of town at the hearing. I should have known that a College who does not let you be judged by a jury of your peers is no fair handed. Lastly, I have given up on my Nursing career, after spending over 2 years taking prerequisites. It is clear that Nursing is not a man's job because of the prejudice and discrimination by female coworkers and feminists in the field. Another note, that this Nursing school does not show you the correct answer for tests as required by the Department of Education. I would avoid going to this school at all costs. It is a waste of Time, Money, and Energy. Your dreams will be crushed as mine were.
