I've been studying for months to take my PMP exam. It's been a substantial time commitment for me this year and I was looking forward to getting my PMP certification.

I planned to take the exam on November 21st. I had used Prometric once before - at a different location, with relative success. Yet, this time I chose Asheville (2 hours away) because of family nearby.

I went to check in an hour early. A large man appx in his 50's was to sign me in. I handed the man my valid driver's license and he rejected it.

My valid license is 3 years old, and is faded in spots. Nevertheless, it's still readable. I've had a number of coworkers and friends look at it since this endeavor and they all could read it.

I have plenty of additional identification in my wallet: credit cards and insurance cards with my name on it, an employee ID with my name and face one it. I even had my computer with me, with a picture of that same drivers license from a year ago, as well as access to multiple bank statements, utility bills and tax returns.

In any reasonable situation, I definitely had enough information to prove my identity beyond reasonable doubt. This guy would not accept any of them.

Eventually, he indicated that he couldn't see the expiration date on my driver's license. I had no problem reading it.

I contacted PMI constomer service who contacted Prometric, who contacted the person blocking me from taking the test that I paid $555 for (by company credit card).

This person had the ultimate authority on whether to allow me to take this test. He did not ask for a second opinion from one of his other coworkers, nor did he permit me to provide secondary identification.

After over an hour since I first entered, he asked me to come out into the hallway beside the center, which I felt was degrading in front of many other test takers. Upon going out into the hall, I showed him my driver's license in better lighting. He was then able to read it, even the expiration date. However he proceeded to tell me that "You are not taking this test today." He then rubbed his fingers on my ID in an attempt to further fade the text.

I feel that this whole event was highly unprofessional and that this person should not be the customer facing representative of this organization.

His unjustified denial has cost our institution over $935 and has wasted over 8 hours of my time. So far, Prometric has denied reimbursement of even just the testing fee.
