My son bought 5 laptops and he kept only one since it is not what we expected.  when we return the other 4 back, he had to go to the district manager in CA to get them to refund it back but they charged us restocking fees.  I thought restocking fees applied to products that were open. What are they going to restock if it is still has the manufacturer's seal?!!!  It looks like a scam to me.  For sure my corporate will never do business with Radioshack and I hope that everyone read this doesn't deal with them.  Honesty and customer service is something they never heard of

Restocking Fees on the Receipt

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, May 02, 2011

I work at a RadioShack and we have it clearly printed on the receipt that a 15% restocking fee will apply regardless of whether the product was opened or not.  The only way that it is waived is if you are swapping the item for something of like type (i.e. netbook for a notebook), or if the product is defective.  This customer was also referred to the DM because a return as large a 4 laptops requires the approval to make sure there is no fraud involved.

Restocking Fee

AUTHOR: Ramjet - (U.S.A.)

Here is the definition of restocking fee from 'businessdisctionary.com'.
===================
restocking fee
Definition

Amount charged by a seller for accepting a return
===================
 It is usually charged when someone returns something just because they don't want it.  It has nothing to do with being open.  It pays them to make sure it hasn't been opened, placing it back on the shelf and updating their inventory records etc.

What they did is common and ethical.

I have dealt with Radio Shack for many years and they are as honest and ethical as any other business I have dealt with.
