The dealer is Royal Oaks Chevrolet 3417 Park Ave. Paducah KY. About 2 1/2 years ago I went looking for a good used car for my daughter and found a 2005 Grand Prix for 12,000 at the Dodge dealer down the block from Royal Oaks, I only wanted to spend 10K so then when checking with Royal Oaks I informed them I was looking for a used car for no more than $10,000 and they said they had a just traded for 2006 Grand Am. I dealt with the finance manager Tommy Coley on the car. I explained I would only finance for a 3 year period and was very adimet about that, I didnt want a long term pay out or a new car. I was offered the car for 10K taxes & lic included. I agreed and the papers were prepared the next day after running a credit ck. I went in and paid 2,000.00 down and was told to sign here and here and here and here and here and here and so on and on. Before signing I was told the payments would be around 245.00 a mo. Hummmm running that through my head quickly I thought 36x200 is 72 + about18 is 9K soooo Im paying about 1K interest. That will work I said. While signing I was told NO warrantee, hummmm that was not discussed during bartering. This was a bitter pill but since the car was only 2 year old I let it go and continued to sign and again was smacked with the info that this car was an 05 not an 06. At this point Im not liking the deal so well any more but with some coxing I did finish signing the papers. At this point I was told the car had not been cleaned and I could pick it up tomorrow along with my copy of the paper work sure OK. Well I came in the next day and Tommy was not in and I was told I would get the paper work from the finance co. duuuu OK so off we go in the little car. But I never received any paper work from anyone. As I said this car was for my daughter so my wife and I return to work on our semi where we pay all our bills via auto debut or internet since were never home. We work 6 to 8 weeks at a time on the road away from home. After almost 2 years the trucking business went sour--er and we went out of business. We were looking for a way to cut costs in every direction. So I contacted the finance co and ask what the payoff would be on the loan since I had never received the coupon book I had requested. I was told after almost 2 years of payments we owed about7640.00 on this 8000.00 loan. Dooooo what ??? The guy I talked to said they were in the process of changing there internet site and that the figure was wrong. Sooooo After a month I called again and guess what? I was told that the quote was correct and when I questioned the sanity of it I was told I had signed a 60 month note not a 36 month note. There are no words at this point to express my feelings. Anger does not come close. It has taken a couple of months for me to try to put this complaint in words that a descent person could read. I clam to be a Christian but I have had a very hard time with the amount of hate I have for this low life scum sucking bunch of trash at this dealership.

This was no mistake and has happened over and over at this con shop. To back that statement up I placed an ad on my VCI [phone/internet provider] free ad site on the internet stating ROYAL OAKS CHEATED US OUT OF THOUSANDS inside the ad I went on to say that I was going to report this to the att general and if you had any problems with Royal Oaks please respond and be heard as well. I received many phone calls and some e-mails which I will include in this complaint. But alas after a very short time the ad was pulled and I was told it could not be run because it was an inflammatory ad. So how is the truth inflammatory? And where is my freedom of speech???? Are only politicians allowed to call each other liars and thieves?

My wife and daughter were there when we bartered the deal and are very clear about the agreement to finance for 36 mo only. I didnt even ask the interest rate I just didnt want to be tied up more than 36 mo. So what I got was a credit card type interest rate at 60 months which puts the car payment at just about double the cars value. About an extra 5900 bucks. I know Ive been told if I signed it its my fault and when I called them about this thats exactly what they told me. But I just dont believe that my government allows this type of con game to go on every day and call it legal. I was told at signing what each document was, and I was never told in any fashion they were doing a 60 mo deal and not the 36 mo deal that we had agreed to. I trusted what they told me, they even told me the true year of the car at this point and no warranty ,,,,,, why would I thank they were cheating the hell out of me. I just signed what and where they told me to as does every one. If I had known this note was 60 months I would not have signed and they knew that and hid this fact from me. I am now stuck with making an extra 24 payments that I cant afford or give the car back at some point. I have never in my life been so cheated and used by any con man or con game anywhere even in a carnival. Its so sad that these people do this every day to people that just cant afford to pay and they dont care about anything but there bottom line. Its no wonder this country has gone in the pooper. If you can help us please let me know.

PS it seems that VCI has pulled my e-mails as well as the ad since the e-mails were through there site. WOW what a racket. I had received several responses with statements just like mine. A deal is bartered and the papers are drawn and signed with a verbal explanation of what youre signing that turns out to be far from the deal explained or bartered. And just like me, many folks were not catching this scam for months even years, after it was too late to save themselves. Something should be done about this kind of practice. My wife and I are very tired of being openly cheated by every one on the planet. This car, the house, the semi that drove us into bankruptcy, the phone co, the butcher, the baker, and the candle stick maker. Every one now just openly steals from ua.

I just done a deal with D-TV for 29.00 a month + 7 bucks for a box, I got my first bill and it was 139.00 same ole same ole. Its about to get old.

Go get the car refi'd, now!

Even though this won't change the situation with the dealer, and I do think it's awesome you put out an ad for the crap you went through! Go right NOW and go to your bank or credit union (as they typically, but not always, have lower rates) and get a term you want with a great rate (assuming your credit score is 720+, you'll get the lowest rate). Hell, put your daughter on the loan also so she can start building her credit early!

Banks and credit unions will NOT hide the rate, and in fact some have started making a "declaration" page that has in large, bold print what the interest rate is, payment amount, loan maturity date, etc. so you know EXACTLY what you are signing before you sign it!

Let us know how it goes, and stop reading this, go right now!

The way the car business works.

AUTHOR: Flynrider - (USA)

The purpose of all that signing you did was to agree to whatever was on the paper.  A paper contract takes precedence over anything you claim you were told.   Car dealers know this.  If you are in the habit of signing contracts without reading them, you will get hosed at 9 out of 10 car dealers.  That's just the way the business works.   By not even asking about the interest rate, you were telling them that you were ripe for the picking.

The last 3 times I bought a vehicle, the contract they wanted me to sign was not the same as the deal they'd offered me.   No doubt they were hoping I'd just sign and drive away, but it only took a few minutes to see that the numbers didn't add up.

Car salesman and their even sleazier counterparts, the finanance guys, are notorious for their shadiness.   They have become icons for dishonesty in our society.  Deciding to trust them with your financial interest is nuts.

Unfortunately, since you have apparently signed contracts agreeing to this ridiculous financing, there's not alot that can be done (other than to tell others about it).  Next time around you'll be prepared.
