shelton truck is a rip off !  and liers they promise you extened short haul which was i would be home on weekends and tell you the states you will be running in which is al,ga,sc,nc,tx,la . so i took the job with them under the pretents thats the lanes i would be running in. so everything goes good for first month then i get this load going out west to del on thursday. little did i know that i was going to half to sit all night!  they sent me a load that picked up 300 miles away from where i was and it loaded on friday. i ask where the load was going and they said it was going up north. i then told them that was not my running lanes. and did not want the load they then told me if i wanted to get home for the weekend i need to go get the load. and if i didnt pick up the load i would be out west for long time i told them i would pick up the load but could not make the delivery!  then i was on phone with my wife talking to her about what they where doing and then i got a phone call on my other line so i merged it in with my call with my wife she remained quiet while the man who said his name was jeff who told me in a smart attitude that if i did not!! go pick up this load!!!!!  for me to get all my things and get out of there truck and start walking home!!!! the whole time my wife heard every word that was said to me by this smart mouth person!!!! so i told him to send me the load info i picked up the load and drove the truck to there terminal in lower alabama called back home got me a ride to come all the way down to get me i left messages with them where the keys where for the truck i cleaned out truck locked it up and left. i chose to be the bigger person and return there truck that to leave it on the road like the smart mouth told me too. it has been two weeks now and i find out from another company where i put in a new app with them that shelton trucking returned some paper work back to them that said i quit under dispatch!!!!  they would not hire me because of what shelton trucking put on the paper work!! i have put in alot of apps and still have not got any phone calls for work!  please dont ever work for this company if you work for them now the best thing i can tell you is get away from them while you still have a chance!!!  there trucks are junk!!!  trailers are old and junky the mechanics weld extentions on a 48 foot trailer to make it a 53 foot the weld never hold they break off!!! they use glue to put parts from junk trucks they have on yard on trucks you are driving and try to charge the lease drivers for new parts that was never bought new!!! all the trucks have air leaks and want pass dot inspection  dispatchers are sorry and can not think on there own! the best thing for this company is to be put out of business!!!!!!

The Facts Are...

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 15, 2013

As per your report...you were hired by Shelton, a flatbed company.  You were hired to primarily run those southeastern lanes you spoke of, and it should be said, when freight exists for those lanes.  You stated you were send out west of these lanes but expected to get home.  They sent you a dispatch to pick up a load, as you said, 300 miles away and it was going "up north".  You didn't go 300 miles away on your own, you drove 300 miles because you were DISPATCHED to pick up that load.  Then, as per your admission, you DID NOT deliver that load "up north", instead you took it upon yourself to go to a terminal and clear out the truck.  That load was NOT delivered by you...that load upon which YOU WERE DISPATCHED.  Flatbed freight in the southeast is down this time of year.  When freight for any type of "dedicated" lanes is down, the company...any company...must look outside those lanes to keep the trucks moving to generate income for the company and for the driver.  Every driver with a few years under their belt knows this and every driver who runs in so-called "dedicated" lanes knows at any time they can be dispatched outside those lanes to service existing customers or to help obtain new customers.  Trucking is NOT scheduled airline service.  As such, every driver knows they must be flexible to changes at any time and dispatchers need to know this too.  You told them at first you were not going to pick up this load.  In many companies that is viewed as the driver has quit.  You chose to disobey dispatch and not deliver the load but instead drop it and the truck somewhere even if it was at their terminal.  Indeed, YOU QUIT UNDER DISPATCH because YOU chose to NOT deliver the load YOU were dispatched on.

No doubt you will get another job in the business, if your safety record is clean.  When that time comes, you will need to be a bit more flexible rather than doing what you did.  Additionally, I would HIGHLY suggest you pick up a newspaper...any newspaper and compare the writing of the articles in that paper with your posting.  You would be well advised to get someone to teach you the basics of punctuation, capitalization, grammar and word usage.  How people write and use the English language is a primary indicator of their future success.  Finally, before it is stated, I do not work for Shelton.
