It was supposed to be an audition.

An audition for a "1st Draft Reading of an Untitled Pilot"

Yes.  I should have known better.  Not even in Los Angeles do you get something as vague as auditioning for a Reading for a first draft television pilot without a name.  Still, it was listed on LA Casting, it said it was paying and it was listed as a SAG (Screen Actors Guild) gig.  I submitted my information.

A few days later I got an audition for Tuesday, June 28th 2011 at The Exposure Studios with a man who calls himself "Freedom"  I took the usual time to do the research on this man: Has on his IMDB with a decent list of supporting and day player roles.

So far, okay.

I then went to the website of The Exposure Studios.  Outside of the pretty poorly done website and a few comments regarding the continual barrage of classes, on other sites  I chalked it up initially to this:  This man (Freedom) rented the space to have his audition.  I don't fault the auditioner for the space they choose.  I know.  You get what you can if you are an Independent Production.

He emails me the script and I prepare for this one page audition the night of the 27th.

I arrived at The Exposure Studio (which for all purposes is a home that has been converted into a "One Stop Actor Stop" replete with every single class you could humanly imagine taking along with the obligatory "actor headshots" adorning the walls apparently of their own students, which was probably taken by their in house photographer) and signed into the audition call sheet with my name, and email address.  I arrived there like most professional actors: fifteen minutes beforehand.

That was 2:35.  My audition was at 2:50.

I sat and waited.  And waited.  And waited even longer.  There was a woman who was there originally to sign up for these classes.  She decides she wanted to also audition too for the first time in her life.  Usually walk ins should go after people with scheduled times (and as a SAG member: auditions they have to pay you if you are there longer than an hour).  This did not matter to these people.

I waited for close to 45 minutes, to be seen sitting through a woman every once in a while coming in with a clipboard asking everyone "Are you here for Exposure?"  As though if I waited long enough I would enviably break down and scream "If if gets me into this audition and out of here, I will take a million of you 40 dollar a pop classes!"

I finally get into the audition and do the the sides to "Freedom".  When I asked him "So, this is an audition for a "READING?"  He started to hem and haw:

"Well, it is a 1st reading, then we tighten it up, then we re-read and then we take it to possible producers and...(beat) Well...there is that"  I think he realized by the look on my face that he was dealing with someone who is just still Pollyanna enough to get suckered here...but not brain dead enough to not know something was stinking in Denmark.

I thanked him and got out of there and still in professional actor mode as a usual nicety sent a thank you note for the audition via email.  An audition that should have been in and out.  Instead it was an hour of excruciating pain sitting in the "Lobby" (should be Dining Room) with a lot of hopeful, wide eyed actors and their soon to be shattered dreams.

This morning (the 29th) I get an email from my LA Casting mail stating that an audition for the 29th (this writing) had been cancelled.  Basically they "Re-blast" this email again to get people into this audition and upon realizing it?  Cancelled.

This evening (while sitting in a REAL audition for a movie) I get an email from The Exposure Studio.  It is not a callback.  It is not a thanks, no thanks.  It is not even a courteous thank you to my thank you.

Instead, it is an email blast via Constant Contact.  They yanked my personal email off of the casting sheet and without my permission put me on their mailing list to sign up for "Specialty Programs" for the "Defining Arts Talent Agency" and for only 40 bucks, I can be represented if I only paid The Exposure Studio (via Freedom, the man who I auditioned for).

Never mind I'm already represented both commercially and theatrically.  Never mind I came there not to sign up for workshops or classes or "See an agent/casting director" but instead for an audition and waited an hour to be seen.

They yanked my personal email off of a call sheet to spam me with trying to have me pay for their "Exposure"  I immediately opted out of the emails, called The Screen Actors Guild, and now I'm posting this.

Maybe this is really bad hindsight for The Exposure Studios and Freedom.  Maybe in retrospect this is not the brightest marketing move for Freedom and this organization.  Maybe they are just used to doing this and because this is Hollywood, actors are too afraid to say anything for fear of an imaginary blackball bonking them on the heads if they call people like this out.

I'm not.  I'm not from Los Angeles.  I'm just a professional Pollyanna actor from Chicago with a sense of actor protection not only in our acting, but in our professional lives.  This also includes our professional emails we give for hopeful work to not be used in ways we did not ask for.

This on Ripoff Report is now marked here for future hopeful actors or professional actors who see this address as an audition notice you submit for to do what we all wish to do: Perform our craft of acting...

Beware.  You might just waste your gas money, the time to find parking in a pretty unfriendly parking area on a Tuesday and an hour of your life, only to go home and be spammed by a place wishing for you to pay to be "Exposed".

The Exposure Studio.  After my experience the name is pretty depressingly ironic.

Thexposure Studio is a Ripp-off,email scam, no celebs here to mentor me!!!

AUTHOR: Thexposed Truth - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 08, 2011

The Exposure Studios-Celebrity Mentor Program is a scam; No celebrity has entered these doors, its nothing but "has been" casting directors(which there are hundreds in Hollywood) that need your money to pay for the expensive habits of thier past inner-circles.
Freedom has hosted many workshops at Thexposure Studios and has suckered many NEW and UNEXPERIENCED actors and has learned from his mistakes of false advertisments. (Again he a Black Country Boy From Tenessee who's just imitates what he has learned in Hollywood thus far) Which is to sell people dreams of maybe getting a shot in this casting directors next movie.
The scams, are to make the New and Unexperienced actors believe that they will be ready to work after they take courses from The Exposure studio's Celebrity Mentor Program.
The Exposure Studios will also give the illusion that they have Real Sets, Real Props, Real Celebrities and will put you in front of them.-Lies
If you want to pay for Acting Classes then you've come to the right place, because that is all your paying for and nothing more.
So, Jim Richer, Stop Lying about your work you've done nothing...
If you Look up Jim Richer on IMDB you find that Jim Richer has done the following
Intimate Obsession (art department production assistant) 1992-(THAT'S IT NOTHING ELSE) Plus NO Picture of the Guy.
If you Look up James Richer on IMDB you will find 7 actor titles all small roles(nobodies/on nobody films 1993-1998) and 2 XXX features that he starred in as Jim Richer, AGAIN NO PICTURE so it might not be him. If you look up Port O'Charles they have the full cast of the show he not in it so its NOT him.
He'll tell you that he was an actor doing a Television Series. WOW! There only one Jim Richer and only one James Richer and your either an 1 time art department production assistant of a PORN or you are PRETENDING to be a Television Series actor that as only had 7 small roles in a 5yr spand...and 2 SOFT PORN FEATURES.
Your Name or face doesn't even show up on IMDB, someone who talks as much crap as you, of course the consumer would think you can be easily found. You "Name Drop" too many Active Celebrities names as if they know you and they are able to work with you.-All Lies I used to work for Jim, side by side, I quit because of sexual Harrasment, low wages, plus he staged a robbery for insurance claims.

Be Careful New Hollywooders-This is real (The Reason that this is not in the BBB b/c Jim Richer or Thexposure Studio-The Exposure Studio-is not registered w/BBB.

I feel sorry for the poor person who auditioned for the role of Jake. This just means there are more people who were disgruntled with this organization.

Again. Beware.

#1 REBUTTAL Individual responds

A reply back to a disgruntled inexperienced ACTOR

AUTHOR: Freedom - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, July 02, 2011
Normally I wouldnt respond
to this sort of thing, but a friend said I should.  Most of the time complaining like this is
done by an ACTOR with no experience or creditability and in researching
everything out just to see if this Actor had valid points, thats exactly what
I found, an Actor with no experience, meaning: No Credits for Network TV/Film
which means very little experience in Auditioning for Network Casting Directors
or Feature Film Casting Directors. I hate to say this but forgive me, every experienced
ACTOR and including myself probably would not be Auditioning for a stage
reading of a Pilot. We have more than likely already done our tour of free
projects to get to the point in our career we are today.  In saying that, I am expected to see people
right off the street wanting to be stars, Asking too many questions,
questioning the character, people who dont know how to slate, people not
having a headshot or resume or not having them already stapled, or even asking
for a stapler. Well, I know what Im in for, so I proceed to be nice about
every step; because we Experience ACTORs know what would happen if you
showed up like this to a REAL NETWORK CASTINGSo lets revisit what this actor
whos resume I am holding as we speak has mentioned, and let me say: no credits,
but a few anyone could make upAnd me just so you know, I am an Actor myself trying to put a
project up with the help of Industry professionals who I have meet from my
Workshops; guiding me in the right direction to help showcase my piece for Sell
or Development. And I stress, lots of experience from Casting and Producing
minds that are willing to share their knowledge of the business to me. So I
think my experience level is Quite
above this young actor.

Yes.  I
should have known better.  Not even in Los Angeles do you get something as vague as
auditioning for a Reading
for a first draft television pilot without a name.  Still, it was listed
on LA Casting, it said it was paying and it was listed as a SAG (Screen Actors

(Lets attend to the first LIE as I copy and paste directly
from the Posting Listed as Other  No
Pay for Reading,
but will be paid for shoot.  Union,
Non-Union and AFTRA encouraged to submit and in the notes it says Reading in Two parts then
shoot.  I dont see where it says its a
SAG project .HMMMM!

He emails me the
script and I prepare for this one page audition the night of the 27th

 (The Audition role of this
character of Jake for which you Audition was 3 pages) do I see a trend
here..HMMMMM!

I sat and waited.
And waited.  And waited even longer.  There was a woman who was
there originally to sign up for these classes.  She decides she wanted to
also audition too for the first time in her life.  Usually walk in's
should go after people with scheduled times (and as a SAG member: when you are there longer
than an hour for auditions, they have to pay you).  This did not matter to
these people

Yes a young lady
wanted to Audition, who fit the part of African American Women for a African
American sitcom sorry about that.which is just a no pay non union Audition
for a Reading. And the time and the Date are on the camera exactly when you slated
for cameraand that says 3:15 ..HMMMMMM

I waited for close to 45
minutes, to be seen sitting through a woman every once in a while coming in
with a clipboard asking everyone "Are you here for Exposure?"
As though if I waited long enough I would enviably break down and scream
"If if gets me into this audition and out of here, I will take a million
of you 40 dollar a pop classes!"

This week there are Rentals for a
Kids 2 week Boot-Camp with about 70 + kids, 2 casting sessions including Mine,
which makes 3 Casting Sessions. Of course the lady is asking who are you here
for.HMMMMM!

I finally get into the
audition and do the sides to "Freedom".  When I asked him
"So, this is an audition for a "READING?"
He started to hem and haw:

"Well, it is a 1st reading,

Pollyanna enough to get suckered here...but not brain dead enough to not know
something was stinking in Denmark.

Sorry but according to professional
industry people that are helping me in the process, these are the steps with
the budget and your resources you want to take. But of course everyone
promotes and sells there film/TV show your way right. And again you are there
to ACT. Im not there to hand my script out to every actor; tell them every
detail about the project, and what Im doing for Budgeting.  Every experience actor knows thats stuff you
find out before you accept the Audition and not ask in the room, in the room
you ask about your character, And if you had any experience in Audition for SAG
projects, they may have kick you out of the room for those type questions, but
I was nice about that and gave you a little info. But, we are trying to be on
TIME, remember that from an early statement and We are Auditioning kids which
take a little more TIMEhmmmmmm

I thanked him and got out
of there and still in professional actor mode as a usual nicety sent a thank
you note for the audition via email.  An audition that should have been in
and out.  Instead it was an hour of excruciating pain sitting in the
"Lobby" (should be Dining Room) with a lot of hopeful, wide eyed
actors and their soon to be shattered dreams.

But of course all Auditions are on
Time.  No more needed to be said here.

Instead, it is an email
blast via Constant Contact.  They yanked my personal email off of the
casting sheet and without my permission put me on their mailing list to sign up
for "Specialty Programs" for the "Defining Arts Talent Agency" and for only 40 bucks, I can be represented
if I only paid The Exposure Studio (via Freedom, the man who I auditioned for).

They yanked my personal
email off of a call sheet to spam me with trying to have me pay for their
"Exposure I immediately opted out of the emails, called The Screen Actors
Guild, and now I'm posting this.

Not one email was taken from the
call sheet and Specialty Programs were sent to you or anyone else. All emails
have a time and date entered into the system, so you are more than welcome to
see if and when your email was entered since you were the only one from this
casting to receive it out of the 100 + people we saw today. WOW after finishing
the days Auditions, looking at the tapes then go home to set up the next days
Auditions and by this time its already 1am and still trying to send everyone
SIDES. And then put in emails.  I like to
say Im good, Yes, I do try to do many things in this Business, but I do know
how to keep it separated. Its unfortunate you can tie it all to me, because I,
myself want to be known as an ACTOR first, but it is what it is.

Maybe this is really bad
hindsight for The Exposure Studios and Freedom.  Maybe in retrospect this
is not the brightest marketing move for Freedom and this organization.
Maybe they are just used to doing this and because this is Hollywood, actors are too
afraid to say anything for fear of an imaginary blackball bonking them on the
heads if they call people like this out.

Well I would give myself a little
credit; with all the rules and restrictions governing Classes/Workshops and in
close contact with the rules above watching. Myself as an Actor, I am not just about
being an Actor! I am about achieving goals as an ARTIST and I dont break laws
or deceive people, or Actors, by doing that. Im not here to be a star; I am
here to be a working Actor, Writer, and Producer. And Im Sorry if I dont fit
in to your system of what you think I should be, or how I should run my
Products.  Maybe you should do just a
little more research before you assume things, because you know what they say
about assuming. I can give you hundreds of Actors who will sign and vouch for
my creditability as a Person, Actor, and My Business practices. Its
unfortunate I cant please everyone, nor will I try, I am who I am! Thexposure
Studio is a place of Rental for there Business, Freedomland Ent. was renting a
space, so please dont tie the two together..

A further note, and last note on
this discussion. SAG, SAG-e, AFTRA, AEA, Non-Union, or whatever; a working
actor, a non-working actor, all still need to learn. Workshops, Classes,
Seminars, Sit-Ins, Life-Coaching, Private Acting Coaching, etc. theses are the
tools each actor in their choice in careerneeds to enhance to further their
education. As an actor, when youre not working, youre learning. When youre
working, youre still learning. Thats what separates the good actors from the
wanta-be actors. For me, I say: go look at yourself in the mirror, and ask
yourself: Am I a working actoror a wanta-be? I wish you all the best in your
career choice, and always remember: don't put-down another Actor, Writer,
Producer, Director, or anybody who is trying to full-fill their dreams and
goals for their own career choice.
