Fraud, embezzlement and exploitation of young adults is standard practice by those at the top of organizations who enlist Mag Crews as independent contractors to solicit magazine subscriptions for them. The story below centers on the Colorado operations of a Mag Crew that is currently soliciting and recruiting in the SF Bay Area on behalf of Unique Subscription Agency, Inc owned by Larry Lee McClellan of Pearland, Texas with Jennifer Payne listed as the Registered Agent.

For the past 4 weeks, there has been a Mag Crew of about 50 young adults staying at the Day's Inn in Alameda, CA. Jennifer Proffitt (Payne's maiden name) is/was on the Board of Directors for Priority One Clearing Services in Florida, a clearinghouse used by Unique Subscription Agency. Priority One recently changed their address from Florida to Colorado.

As receipts are turned-in by the Mag Crews, a lot of the money is skimmed off the top by the folks in Colorado, thus, many subscriptions are not turned in to the clearinghouse. The Mag Crews are generally blamed for this, when in fact, it is those at the higher levels stealing the money. When a customer calls the clearinghouse to inquire about their subscription, the clearinghouse employee can honestly claim there is no record of the order; therefore, no refund is issued if you paid in cash. If payment was made by check, the subscription start dates are often deliberately delayed. When you call and try to cancel, they threaten to send your account to collection. In the meantime, they have had full use of your money.

Jennifer Payne also owns a clearing house named American Cash Awards which has a BBB Rating of F. This is probably why she is bringing Priority One Clearing Services onboard. American Cash Awards is or was the clearinghouse for the following companies: Carpathian Sales, D2DE, DowdCo, Dynasty Technologies, Editorials International, Face Off, Face to Face Technologies, Future Business Executives, Gemini Subscriptions, Global Marketing, Gold Coast Circulation, Love Technologies, Miami Dream Team, New Image Sales, No Limit Sales, Performance Clearing Services, Preferred Consulting Company, Rainbow Sales. Reviste, Second to None, TBA Developments, Titan Sales, TNT Promotions, Urban Success.

I have compiled a list of dozens of front companies used by Jennifer Payne, her husband Cody D. Payne, her son Aston E. Dukes and associates Mark Shumate and Edmund G. Lambert (an attorney). Jennifer Payne registers these companies under her married name, prior married name and/or maiden name. When the companies get too hot, they simply let the company go delinquent or dissolve them. They then just open or reactivate another company (similar to how ACORN operated). In Colorado, to reactivate a company (even after several years), all you need to do is submit a "fill-in-the-blanks" form called Statement Curing Delinquency for $100.

Edmund Lambert is doing the same thing with his companies. When you look up the addresses for these magazine subscription companies, youll find that Jennifer and Edmund are sharing the same addresses between their companies. There are or have been collection agencies/companies included in the mix of companies they own and/or represent. In addition to the companies owned by Jennifer (and crew) and Edmund, they are Registered Agents for several other magazine subscription companies and for each others' companies. A few are listed below. The addresses listed are those that were used by the company when registering/reporting their business to the Colorado SOS. Therefore, these addresses may differ from those listed by the Better Business Bureau. Larry Lee McClellan - Unique Subscription Agency, Inc 3707 Lamppost St.; Pearland, TX 77584 Travis Mason - Global Marketing, Inc. (BBB Rating = D) P.O. Box 159; Idledale, CO 80453 per Colorado SOS Mark Shumate - Face to Face Technologies, Inc (BBB Rating = F) 17301 W Colfax Ave; Golden, CO 80401 Dba Face Off, Inc., No Limit Sales, Dynasty Technologies, Northeast Promotions and East Coast Marketing James Anthony Fulkerson - Ok Marketing, Inc (dissolved Jan 2010) 712 20th Street; Gothenburg, NE 69138

My daughter was recently recruited by a Mag Crew representing the Unique Subscription Agency.  She is a college student, had been depressed over the recent breakup with her boyfriend and was not happy with her job.  When a Mag Crew member began flirting and offering her a job with travel, nice hotels, people and money, she took off with them.  The police won't do anything since the kids are over 18. These young adults, some with children in tow, are being taken state to state soliciting for what are oftentimes fraudulent or non-existent companies. Local police wont touch it, authorities at the state level ignore it, and federal authorities wont even acknowledge the problem other than to warn consumers to beware of magazine subscription scams. This is far more than just scamming consumers. Each year, many of these young adults disappear, are abused, drugged, murdered or dumped in the middle of nowhere. Read some of the true stories at Magcrew.com.

I called the sheriff earlier this week. I don't understand why they wont do anything.  I have been researching these operations non-stop for more than a week now.  There is obvious fraud, fake corporation, falsification of documents, possible child neglect/abuse, consumer rip-offs, drugs, unlicensed drivers, no permits, forgery, theft, etc There is something seriously wrong with this picture. Since attorneys are also involved in these scam operations, are the authorities just looking the other way?

I Retract My Previous Statements

AUTHOR: laura.sandifer - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, March 29, 2012

It's been over a year and a half since I have left Unique Subscription Agency (now known as Prime Time Consulting, Inc.) and I admit I was wrong.  I had the wool pulled over my eyes as well as tunnel vision.

I did join this company of my own free-will, and I was able to leave of my own free-will.  However, when I stated that there was no abuse within this agency, that's only half true - there's no physical abuse, but there's definitely mental and emotional abuse.  There are no drug tests ever done, and marijuana is rampant, but I do know if any other drug use is suspected, those suspected are sent home.  Everyone involved is entered in a real contest. The contest gives us a chance to win a trip to like Mexico or something if we are in the top two with the most points within six months, and every 20,000 points we collect, we do receive $1,000 cash.  But, those 20,000 points are impossible to reach when you have dozens of people cancel their subscriptions.  When that happens, you lose your points, and any money you made in your books.  When I left the company, I was over $1000 negative in my books, and that was after I over-drew my bank accounts by $1000 to keep my job.

As far as I know, everyone who ordered magazines from me got them.  The people who ordered through other people working for this company and did not get magazines, those people probably stole the money.  It was pretty common, and still is I'm sure.

What a loser...

AUTHOR: winkaka01 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 30, 2011

I knew Matt Rowley growing up in a small town in Arizona during my first year of high school. We was incredibly psycho back then. He found out what my interests were, and immediately pretended to be an expert in all of them. He was scrawny, boring and unattractive. He would come over to my house every day to see me. Eventually he demanded that I be in a relationship with him. I mean, literally tell me that I WILL be with him! If I refused...there would be consequences! One day we got into a heavy confrontation. He informed me both myself and my mother were worthless whores. I shrugged off the incident considering Matthew serious wasn't s**t. From his brown mobile home we could see my house directly across this open field. Unknown to me, the loser sat at his window watching me. He waited until I went on a summer trip with my family. Night fell and the piece of s**t broke into my house. He ran sacked my room, and robbed a safe my parents kept in their closet. He tried to steal my four wheeler. It was too much for him, so he ditched it in a field. There was an investigation. My parents really didn't know Matthew, so they pointed the finger at some one else living on our block at the time. I knew better. I am really furious they didn't bag the piece of s**t sooner. I don't care I lost some valuables. The robbery only fueled his confidence and his f**ked up mind. In 1998 he broke into some one's house and sexually assaulted her. He has spent his whole life f**king innocent people over and never holding down an honest occupation. He is a waste of life. I feel grateful that I lived with a big family. Other wise his first sexual assault obviously would have been me. Hey Matthew. If you're not doing life in prison already, you should be! You don't deserve a future. Some one should dig a hole, toss you in, and quickly throw dirt over you. Your fake. Your a no body always trying to over compensate for an endless list of short comings. Burn in hell.

An Industry Rife With Fraud, Exploitation and Crime

AUTHOR: Phil - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 21, 2011

The traveling door-to-door magazine sales industry is rife with fraud, exploitation and crime. Our organization has documented over 350 high profile felony cases and 89 deaths. The National Consumer League ranks traveling door-to-door magazine sales as one of the top 5 most dangerous jobs that a teen or young adult can have.

The state of Wisconsin has passed and enacted a piece of legislation that regulates the traveling door-to-door sales industry in an effort to protect Wisconsin kids and homeowners from the all too real dangers of traveling magazine sales crews. By law in Wisconsin the magazine sales agents are employees of the company and not independent contractors (indentured servants). Wisconsin requires all sales agents to undergo a complete background check and requires the company to post a $10,000 cash or secure bond before they are allowed to sell door-to-door. This legislation was made state law in response to the 11 deaths, murder, and rape that have taken place in Wisconsin.

Furthermore, why would anyone but a magazine subscription that is marked up 300% above actual cost and then have to wait 4 months to receive their subscription, assuming they ever get their subscription?

Traveling door-to-door magazine agents prey on their victims fear and ignorance. A door-to-door salesman wants you to make an emotional decision. They will tell you they live down the street and are selling magazines for a local hospital charity or our troops in Afghanistan. These are bold faced lies and in the industry referred to as: 'Dirty Canvass' : lies told by the sales agents (spiel) to snow the Jones (you the consumer).

A knock at your door is a direct invasion of your privacy and is more distracting and invasive than a unsolicited call from a telemarketer. That knock at your door could also prove to be much more dangerous than you could possibly imagine. The Dedicated Memorial Parents Group has documented some of the most heinous rapes and murders directly connected to the magazine sales companies and their so called independent contractors (indentured servants).

As recently as June 22, 2011 four young kids working for LTP Inc,  a traveling magazine sales crew were killed in a van rollover in Idaho.

On September 1, 2010 Ronald E. Kemp a traveling magazine sales agent raped a 13 year old girl in Omaha, Nebraska. Police reports indicated that Kemp was employed by a traveling magazine sales company by the name of D&T Connection Inc. aka: DNT Connection Inc.

A 24-year-old traveling magazine salesman from Pennsylvania is facing seven to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter. Robert J. Hines admitted he was one of two men who stomped Daniel Willis, 40, to death Dec. 6 2009.

On March 30, 2009 a 78 year old woman in Texas is raped and set on fire by Daniel Deshawn Neal a traveling door-to-door magazine salesman working for a Washington, D.C.-based company called U.D. Management.

The list of crimes goes on and on and on.

The Dedicated Memorial Parents Group Wanted Page currently contains 3 unsolved murders, 1 unsolved attempted murder/attempted rape, and 4 unsolved rape cases, a direct testament to this fowl, immoral, and criminal industry.

Unique subscription agency

AUTHOR: tenchi_yasha - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, August 06, 2010

I use to work for unique subscription agency and would just like to give consumers some information that they might find helpful in their search.

Just a little background information since some of it on here is incorrect. First of all Unique Subscrition Agency goes through the same clearing house as OK Marketing. That clearing house is ran by Jennifer Payne. The company was started by a man named Skyler McClellan. So as for the companies "not being related", that is incorrect. I was their when they started out under a differnt name and a differnt company. James fulkerson (who use to be a manager of that crew) decided that he didn't like the way that they were running things so he took his whole crew and switched to OK Marketing. I was there and meet Jennifer Payne, so i know this all to be fact. After some disagreements and money being stolen from the company by James Fulkerson, Skyler McClellan started a comapany named Unique Subscription Agency. Like I stated before, they still stayed under the same clearing house. So all the orders do go through Jennifer Payne, her husband and who ever else is working for them. As far as them taking money off the top, I am not to sure of, but it would not surprise me.

Secondly as for them treating their agents as dirt.... I can agree. I worked with Skyler McClellan and Matthew Rowley closely. Infact I was in a relationship with Matt Rowley for two years, so I am very confident that I know how he runs things and how is acts towards people. I also traveled with Skyler McClellan for a year and half and most of the time roomed with him and matt, So once again I can you in confidence what these people are like.

Matt Rowely: is in fact a felon. The break up did not end well. I was 3  months pregnant with his child when we got into an argument about him not paying me that night. He is very disrepectful and does not listen to anything that he does not want to hear for example saying "blah blah blah, you don't run nuthin but you'r mouth", while you are trying to talk to him. This argument, like many ended up with physical violence. By the time everything was said and done I was sitting a bus station at 11 at night that didn't open till the next day at 9 with 5 dollars to my name. I was lucky enough that a cop and two very respectful young men let me stay at another hotel for the night so that I was not sitting out side all night. The next i returned to the bus station and "out of the goodness of their hearts" they let  me stay at the hotel till they could get my bus ticket 2 days later. Infact before they sent me home they sent 2 other gentelmen home, they also sat their for 3 days with no money, no bus ticket, and no food. So i can say with confidence that you or any one you love DO NOT want to be in this position. Matt has boasted to me several times about being a satanist and also about being a sociopath. I for one was stupid to stay with him for so long, and don't think that anyone should be put through his lies, direspect, and all around impulsive behavior.

Skyler McClellan: Is also a felon. He spent 7 years in prison for cocain trafficing across Texas. He is a salemen, he will tell you anything that you want to hear so that you will do what ever he wants you to do for him. While on crew he asked me to get an account through verizon so that we could run ad's to hire people. He told me that it would build my credit, and then after sending me home infact 2 weeks ago told me that as long as i kept the 8 phones on the account under my name that he would pay the bill through march of 2011 until the contract had ended. Now just for another tid bit of information he took advantage of this deal, we start out with 4 blackberries, one for me, one for matt, one for skyler, and one for alicia smith (skylers girlfriend). By the time that I found out that he had added 4 other phones to the line it was to late to do anything about. Now I am stuck with a 2,492.88 dollar phone bill because he said "it was to expensive to pay". Skyler McClellan is not to be trusted, he will lead you on till you trust him and then drop everything on you.

All in all i don't think that these people should be allowed to do any kind of business with any one. No one deserves to be treated this way, EVER. I understand that mag crew teaches you to be loyal to those that you are working for and with, as they say "they are your family". But this is just another way for them to gain your trust before they take advantage of you. these people are NOT to be trusted I would suggest NOT buying anything from them and NOT to work for them, because you will regret it.

ohnoudidnt Get A Clue

AUTHOR: laura.sandifer - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, May 21, 2010

Careful, you're showing your ignorance about this industry.  Have you ever worked for a magazine crew?  Have you ever personally talked to someone who works/worked for a crew and left on GOOD TERMS?  Athena quit and didn't leave on the best terms.

Like I had previously said, Unique Subscription Agency is the most honesty magazine agency in the country.  We are subject to random drug testing, nightly room checks; we're treated as if we're kids on a school trip in reality.  Two people I know personally won the contest and the rewards will be given again this July when we take a vacation.

American Cash Awards has nothing to do with how this business is run.  If you look at any clearinghouse, there will be problems.

By the way, I was not coached to say "I am here (or I joined) of my own free will".  I joined because I needed a change in my life.  This job is a great opportunity for anyone and I would actually recommend trying it before you shoot it down.

Don't get UNIQUE confued for UNIVERSAL OR UNITED!!

AUTHOR: twinkie - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, May 20, 2010

Why dont you be careful in what you are stating on here.. do you work for this company? Do you know? Ya I didnt think so!  I have been here since this company has started in july 2009.  Why would she be getting arrested if shes doing everything right?  Cops will not arrest you for soliciting unless you are doing something you are not supposed to.  If the city does not want you there they will tell you and they leave. There are certain places where yes we do get permits.  I had sold magazines for almost 2 years and never once got arrested now granted yes I had gotten stopped by  cops but the most they did was say hey just go get a permit and all will be good.   There are two people with this company that have won and I have seen it with my own eyes.  So dont be so quick to judge.  Ya what did happen to athena? She came in saying she quit! Now just remember pathalogical liars tend to say things that are not true!   And what if larry did use a texas address for colorado secretary of state   that is where the best place for him to receive mail I have my mail sent back to my home town and not kittredge?  Does that make me some kind of bad person?   I come from a town in northern california, I had some college done under my belt, had good grades, I have never done drugs, nor will I ever.   I just needed to get out of the town and actually do something for myself.      So if magazine crews are so bad have you looked into other jobs like construction? You know they drink on the job, take pills, and are driving around in their COMPANY vehicles while intoxicated.  Oh but because they build things like walmarts, grocery stores, doctors offices they are okay?!  And because we sells magazines door to door it makes us all bad people?!  There is no one that works for this company that does drugs, we have drug tests done almost every other week.  These agents  work here  because they did not like the lifestyle  they had back home!!  I would really love to know what you do for your career?  And let me be quick to judge what you do! Why people on here make such remarks about a company they dont even know  is beyond me. Yes there are bad magazine companies out there but its all just hear say.  If you really want to talk bad about a company, why dont you look into UNITED subscription agency, or UNIVERSAL subscription agency.  Lets not get UNIQUE subscription agency confused with those two companies!  And dont be so quick to judge when you have NO clue what goes on out here!

Unique Subscription Agency

POSTED: Thursday, May 20, 2010

Careful, you're showing your immaturity.  Wake-up!  Do you get permits and licenses for soliciting?  Of course not.  Why would Larry McClellan run this operation legally when none of the others do either?  Let's see how long it takes before you get arrested, you'll enjoy a night in jail.  If you're not meeting quota, they won't bother to post bail for you, then what?  Who has won a contest on your crew?  No one.  Promises, promises.  What happened to Athena?  Your crew dumped her and she had to sleep on the streets for 2 days with no food.  How nice of your crew!  How about Rowley, charged with 5 felonies, pleaded guilty to four:  Aggravated Assault resulting in Serious Physical Injury (pleaded guilty), Sexual Conduct with a Minor (plea-bargained), Criminal Trespass (pleaded guilty), Aggravated Assault (pleaded guilty) and Probation Violation (pleaded guilty).  Nice people you work with.  Larry McClellan owns this company and used a Texas address when registering with the Colorado Secretary of State.  Based out of Kittredge?  That's where your registered agent, Jennifer Payne and her hubbie Cody are.  They own your clearinghouse.  Talk about a corrupt organization.  They also owned American Cash Awards.  Honest?  I think NOT!  Doing business with the likes of Cody Payne speaks for itself.  By the way, crew members are always coached to say "I am here (or I joined) of my own free will".  Get a clue.

Rebuttal From The Daughter

AUTHOR: laura.sandifer - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 19, 2010

I am the daughter of the author of this Rip-Off Report post. Most of my mothers facts are not correct, or can easily be misunderstood. I am 20 years old, a legal adult, and I joined thus company of my own free-will. Yes, I was unhappy with my job at Safeway and had been looking for something different, and yes, I was depressed over my break-up with my ex. But, joining this crew I think I can honestly say was the best decision I could have made.

These are just a few of the facts that are incorrect or can be misconstrued: The address for the company is incorrect - Unique Subscription Agency is based out of Kittridge, Colorado. Many of the people listed are associated with our current and previous clearing house, but not the agency. Most company owners mentioned are not associated with our company, they have been and never will be.

We are called Unique Subscription Agency for a reason - there is no abuse of any sort within this agency. We travel the country in comfort, and I have never seen or heard of anything mentioned by my mothers report when it comes to this company. This company gives young adults a chance to travel the country, experience new things, meet new people, all while making money to put towards school. This company has given many people a second chance at life. Many of the people I work with have come from broken homes, drug abuse, or things in their life they wish to change, and this company has given them the opportunity to change their lives. There are no drugs allowed within the company, everyone is subject to random drug testing.

Everyone involved is entered in a real contest. The contest gives us a chance to win a really cool trip to anywhere in the world if we are in the top two with the most points within six months, and every 20,000 points we collect, we do receive $1,000 cash to put towards our schooling.

I ask that you all do your research before judging this company. I used to work for Safeway (also known as Vons, Carrs, Pack n Save, and many more other branches) and Im sure you could find many complaints about them with the Better Business Bureaus website. Walmart is another company you could look up. I am treated better by Unique Subscription Agency than I was ever treated by Safeway.

Give this company a chance before calling fraud. Unique Subscription Agency is the most honest magazine agency out there and we intend to keep it that way.

Unique Subscription Agency & Priority One Clearing Services - Same Scam as OK Marketing & American Cash Award

AUTHOR: boatrocker - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Fraud, embezzlement and exploitation of young adults is standard practice by those at the top of the organizations who enlist Mag Crews as independent contractors to solicit magazine subscriptions. For the past 4 weeks a Mag Crew of about 50 young adults have been staying at the Day's Inn in Alameda, CA. The following information is a result of researching the Colorado operations of this Mag Crew who is soliciting and recruiting in the SF Bay Area on behalf of Unique Subscription Agency, owned by Larry Lee McClellan of Pearland, Texas with Jennifer E. Payne of Colorado listed as the Registered Agent.

Jennifer Proffitt (Payne's maiden name) is on the Board of Directors for Priority One Clearing Services in Florida, a clearinghouse used by the Unique Subscription Agency. Priority One Clearing Services recently changed their address from Florida to Colorado, Jennifers home base. Jennifer Payne also manages a clearing house named American Cash Awards (Dba ACA Clearinghouse) which has a BBB Rating of F. This may be why Priority One Clearing Services was brought onboard by Jennifer.

As receipts are turned-in by the Mag Crews, a lot of the money is skimmed off the top by the folks in Colorado, thus, many subscriptions are not even turned in to the clearinghouse.

I have compiled a list of dozens of front companies used by Jennifer Payne, her husband Cody D. Payne, her son Aston E. Dukes and associates Mark Shumate and Edmund G. Lambert (an attorney). Jennifer Payne registers these companies under her current married name (Payne), prior married name (Dukes) and/or maiden name (Proffitt). When a company receives too much negative attention, they simply stop filing annual reports and/or dissolve the company. They then just open or reactivate another company (similar to how ACORN operated). In Colorado, to reactivate a company (even after several years), all you need to do is submit a "fill-in-the-blanks" form called Statement Curing Delinquency for $100.

Edmund Lambert and Mark Shumate are doing the same thing with their companies. When you look up the addresses for these magazine subscription companies, youll find that Jennifer, Edmund and Mark are sharing the same addresses between their companies. There are or have been collection agencies/companies included in the mix of companies they own and/or manage. In addition to the companies owned by Jennifer (and crew), Edmund and Mark, they are Registered Agents for each others' companies and/or manage other subscription companies for owners such as Larry McClellan (Unique Subscription Agency), James Faulkenson (OK Marketing), James Yocum (Coast to Coast Subscriptions) and Bryan Hanson (National Data Sales).

Mag Crews recruit young adults over 18, some with children in tow, and take them state to state to solicit for what are oftentimes fraudulent or non-existent companies. Authorities at the local, state and federal levels are rarely willing to do anything. This is far more than just scamming consumers. Each year, many of these young adults disappear, are abused, drugged, murdered or dumped in the middle of nowhere. Read some of the true stories at Magcrew.com.

I have been researching these operations non-stop for more than a week now. My daughter was recently recruited by a Mag Crew representing the Unique Subscription Agency. She is a college student, was depressed over the recent breakup with her boyfriend and not happy with her job. She was extremely vulnerable and the Mag Crew took full advantage of this. She was promised a great paying job that included travel around the country and nice hotels. A couple weeks later, she took off with them.

There is something seriously wrong with this picture when authorities at all levels of government do nothing to put these scam operations out of business. There is obvious fraud, falsification of documents filed with government agencies, forgery, theft, child neglect/abuse, consumer rip-offs, drugs, unlicensed drivers, no permits, etc . . .
