I went there just to get my tires rotated. I gave them my key and went to look around in the store while they were supposed to do the work. I came back about 15 minutes later. I looked outside and could see my car, and it was in the exact same spot that I parked it in. I accidentally parked my car kind of crooked and in the left side of the lane. I figured they hadn't even started the work yet, but to my surprise the lady said the work was done. I paid $10 and went to my car. I checked how it was positioned, and it was EXACTLY how I parked it. Crooked at an angle and pretty close to the left line of the parking spot. I was immediately suspicious because the chances of the mechanic parking exactly how I did is slim. The front tires of a car are usually dirtier than the back because they do most of the braking, and the brake dust, etc. dirties the hub caps or rims, but I keep my car clean so there was no way of telling. I wash my car almost every week.

I took my car to another mechanic, and he couldn't tell either. However, the mechanic that actually DID rotate them at the second place said that the tires were pretty hard to remove, and that it felt like they hadn't been removed in a long time. Which makes sense because they hadn't been rotated for at least 7,000 miles if Walmart did not actually rotate them.

Also, I had the second mechanic measure the tread depth, and he got different results than what Walmart did. Walmart did accurately get the tire pressure right, which was 30 for all tires. They also wrote down the mileage on the odometer, etc. I just think they didn't want to bother with actually rotating the tires because they were only getting $10. In my opinion and the second mechanic's opinion too, they DID not rotate the tires. However, I cannot prove it. I might go back to Walmart and see what they say.

My advice to everyone is to NEVER trust mechanics and if you can do the maintenance yourself then go ahead and do it. Also, if you're getting a professional to rotate your tires then be sure to mark them or just stay there and watch the mechanic do the job. It doesn't take long to rotate tires. I do probably 90% of the maintenance on my car myself. Next time I will probably just take the time and rotate the tires myself.

umm-yea--real good advice--just go somewhere and stare at the guy working on your car cause you don't trust him---on top of this--why go somewhere just for a tire rotation??--usually it makes more sense to rotate the tires every other oil change!!!--what i may suggest to you---don't be that guy who stares cause he thinks everyone is out to rip him off--you will just piss innocents off by eye f**king them---next time mark the tires someway somehow and you will know if they did or not if you are that paranoid about a tire rotation--by the way-just cause they were a little rough to come off does not mean it was not touched

Any time the tire/wheels are removed

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 15, 2010

You SHOULD put a small drop of common oil on the Stud threads.

If you don't the next fellow will probably strip the nut (They rust) and charge for replacement, I've had aguments with the Non mechanical over this, they Mistakenly think the nuts will come loose, NO that's why the're tapered where they hit the wheel rim.

The rule is.

If it strips going on, it's YOUR fault,

If it strips coming off it's the previous tightner's fault.

I generally use waste oil, there's gallons around any shop, just put a bit in an oil can (Those 3 in 1 can tops will pop out and back on easily) and if you Don't oil the studs, you'll surely strip a few.

Beats buying new studs and nuts, they're about 3 bucks a stud, and another dollar for a nut to match.

So, Next time that you'r asked to pay for studs or nuts ask if they stripped coming off(You pay) or going on, (They pay).

Worked for Wal-Mart

AUTHOR: Chefkeith - (U.S.A.)

I am sorry you had that problem at Wal-Mart. I used to be a Service Manager for Wal-Mart a long time ago. Every vehicle than came in my bays for tire rotation got their tires marked with a yellow tire crayon and the job was done. Lug nuts were torqued religiously. All work was double checked and signed off on. Apparently quality and integrity are'nt the Wal-Mart way anymore.

They do rotate the tires i have watched them how ever if you car has rust and they didn't clean the rust off it would be difficult to remove even if you just put it on. They most likely never remove rust when rotating tires. Mark them next time you will know for sure then.

You should probably just get one regular mechanic that you trust and have him do all the work on your car instead of trying to find the cheapest price on everything. I own a shop and have had customers for over 20 years and would never think of doing such a thing.

Common scam..

AUTHOR: Ronny g - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, September 23, 2010

if all the tires have fairly even wear...they can charge for a rotation and most would never notice if it was done or not. Sting operations have concluded this.

Perhaps what customers should do is chalk mark the tires on the inside (ex: LF for left front, RR for right rear etc). Then check it before you pay and drive off. A shame consumers have to resort to this..but often they charge more then 10 bucks for a rotation...or just pad a bill with it whether it was necessary or not.
