I know at least 10 people who left the company and were not paid the commissions owed to them after they departed. Which is against labor laws in most states.
Get a good attorney and prepared to wait about 3 years for PSP to drag out the legal process and run up the bills.
Then, just before it goes to court, they will try to settle for pennies on the dollar. They will threaten that if you do not accept their offer, take them to court, and loose.... they will make you pay for all of their legal fees.
Once you do settle (Don't do so for a penny less than what you are owed) they will only agree if you sign a gag order so you can't talk about it afterwards.
This is the most unethical company I have ever encountered. It is a shame that they have been making so much money over the years selling worthless advertising in their Sport Team's Yearbooks.
A full page advertisment in their Yearbooks ~$20,000, and most teams sell under 1,000 of them for the season, costing the advertiser over $20 an impression.

I got a good amount of feedback from these ads. I know for a fact its worked because Ive received phone calls in which they lead in with, "I saw your ad in (so and so magazine and...." on a number of occasions. Thats alll I really ask for in advertising, getting my money back and then some. Plus the readship is technically always a possibility because in the books I used, they are usually kept as souvenirs. One year from being in the book, someone may casually find my ad and who knows maybe they give me a ring....

Well as a customer of USP, I must say I really enjoyed my time with them. I did quite a bit of research and found that the pricing was pretty competitive to other agencies and I've already received a few contracts in direct relation to the ads I took out last year in various publications across the nation. I've had people call me about my ads within these various book so I know that readership is there in some degree. I cant speak for previous employees but from a customers perspective, I enjoyed and benefited from this relationship. I plan to continue advertising through them. And to other potential customers out there, be aware that you can search virtually any company you can think of on this site and find the same types of complaints, its the nature of business and companies.
Thanks,
W. Ingram

I've seen a flurry of new responses about this company lately and having done quite a bit of business with them, I thought I should do my deligence and give my own write up.
Running my own medical practice in a fairly unpopulated area, I was hoping to draw not only the local community to my business but was hopeful to draw from the surrounding suburbs and possibly even the larger outside cities which are less than 15 miles from my location. I was let on about this company and what they do through a collegeue of mine and really did my research and decided to take out a few ads in various books. Within 6 months, everyday in 2 week periods were completely occupied by appointments. I run at full capacity 8 hours daily, at a considerably modest office space and have hired 3 new employees due to the influx. I cant say for certain how much the ads really helped me, but I will continue to use this company until I see a decline in business. My advice would be to give them a shot and see what type of new profit margins you can sustain.
Thanks,
Dr. Alan Caffee

Ive come here to give my opinion because I now work with another poster and we've worked together in making the decisions involving ads with this agency. We were both pleased with the way we were treated. USP does use some obvious techniques to make the sale but we've learned its just the nature of this type of business. They do give vague possiblities which lead to assumptions but it was never to the point of causing us to not do business. We took out ads, and saw results. Period. As long as we are getting profitable margins vs the price paid per ad we cant really complain. We are certain our money is going to good use and regardless of USPs intentions, we are more profitable because of it. End of story for us.
Take the time, give them a shot. We've had success.

I recently opened up a small restaurant chain. I saved a ton on operating costs and my variables costs continued to be tremondously outweighed by our sales; in return we accumulated huge profit gains within a short period of time. With that new sales money in additona to an excess in original start up capital (angel funded) I was able to jump into a fairly large marketing market in my area. I took out ads with USP and was seeing my company on the same page as some real big time players in my market. I was now realistically competeing with some nationwide companies and I had only one location at the time. I believe my success is due to what this company provided...

...sometimes. I have used different agencies in the past and really have been totally sastisfied or completely let down with empty promises and vague assumptionary techniques. However with USP, I FELT like I was presented honestly and reghardless if my assumption is correct or not, I saw pretty good results from the ads. I gained a certain notoriety in the area. I think it helped my business legitmize itself as the deal to consumers. The ads gave me what I needed to show the community I was a businesss that produced serious products for serious people. Could I have done this through other agencies? Possibly, but Ill just stick with what I know works.
