As a business owner I'm always looking for capital. In todays world, there just isn't any. So I started looking at some of these websites (government websites I thought) for grant money for business owners. I'm classified as a minority because I'm a woman and a small business looking to expand and just stay afloat in this economy. Clark Howard (on CNN.com/ClarkHoward) advocates these websites as the most beneficial, best service, and he even states that they are FREE, you just pay shipping. As usual that's where they get you. I applied for the software and only had to pay the shipping. then at the end after you've entered in your visa for the shipping charge of $1.95 there's the caveat. You've just joined a club of sorts. They are going to send you your free software in 5-7 business days. Your membership starts 3 days after you sign up and costs $39.95 a month. So before you even get the software you are charged the $39.95. Your software cannot be used if you don't belong to the club. If you cancel you still get the software because it takes approximately 2 minutes for their mailhouse to send out your order. It's too late to stop the shipment of the software even if you cancel as soon as you realize that it's a club of sorts. I've pasted the live chat with one of their representatives. It's so frustrating that I'm so gullible as to think that it was free software (except for the shipping) It really pisses me off! I really wish there was some way of stopping this crap.

you: I just signed up for this package...it was supposed to be free if I paid the shipping of $1.95...now I find out that it's a membership
Gemma: Can you kindly let me know the name and email address you used when ordering our program?
you: I want to find out about grants but I don't have the money to do this every month
you: jorrya@comcast.net
you: Can I still get the software without the membership?
Gemma: Please allow me few moments, while I locate your transaction.
Gemma: As mentioned on our website, we are providing a 3 days free trial and are charging just for shipping. On 3rd day(which starts from the date of purchase), you will be charged $39.95 monthly.
Gemma: You can cancel your membership at anytime via live chat or phone support.
you: Yes I know that now...but I can't afford $40.00 a month for a membership...so if I cancel do I not get the FREE software that I paid for shipping on
Gemma: Yes, you will get the kit in mail even if you cancel the membership.
you: so I would like to cancel the membership and still receive the software...can you make that happen?
Gemma: Ok.
Gemma: Please hold for a moment

you: then please stop the delivery and refund my shipping fee. it will be of no use if I have to be a member of some club...I will make sure that I forward this information to anyone who will listen...once again...false advertising
Gemma: Your membership has been cancelled and you have been removed from our all services.
you: are you refunding my shipping fee
Gemma: But your kit has already been shipped, so it can't be stopped now.
Gemma: No, shipping fee is non refundable.
you: you couldn't have possibly shipped it since I just ordered it 45 minutes ago...I will stop the charge via my bank

Sounds professional to me. I think the person acted fine. You don't NEED to go to those web sights. Just go to grants.gov. It is the government sight and is FREE.
