I just read your response and the same thing is currently happening to my husband and I. We have been banking with Bank of America since they were Nations bank and fully trusted them. Unfortunately, I am now realizing that they enrolled us into this plan without us even knowing about it and/or the financial ramifications this would bring. Their representative said my husband enrolled on line, which we have NO recollection of. (I do remember calling bank of America once and a rep. asking me if we would be interested in this program which of course, I declined).
After reading your complaint, I am thinking we must of enrolled the same way you did. We enrolled, according to them, in 2006 . In summer of 2007, last year, we called the bank to ask what these charges were and they explained the program to us. It was at that time we asked be removed from the Card Holder Security Plan since we did not want it or needed it. The Bank of America Rep. told my husband he would cancel the plan for us effective emmedietly.
Well, I learned a week ago, that he never canceled the plan and we have been getting charged over $70.00 per month for this plan, which should have been canceled over 6 months ago. A plan that we did not even enrolled in, and if we did, it must of been by them tricking us. Since we have validated new credit cards with them in the past 2 yrs.
Since we process so many transactions on our credit card to earn points, we mistakenly so, failed to check and make sure this program was canceled when we called in July of 2007. Now we know better and we are keeping a closer look at what is being charged to our account. All these hidden fees are out of control. I feel violated and let down by my bank. A bank which I trusted and which we have given a lot of business to for over 15 years.
We called on Thursday of this past week and bank of America can see that we made the call in July of 2007, but unfortunately, Jason, the bank of America Rep. that took out call back then, did not put any notes in the computer, making it really difficult for us to prove our case. We called the company that is in charge of this security plan and they finally canceled the program. They are doing an "investigation" to see if we enrolled in to the program, and if we did, we will not get our money back.
I wonder if a class action lawsuit would be the way to go in this situation. We got charged well over $1000 to our credit card for a plan we never asked for and which we called and canceled when we realized what was going on. I see in the internet, many people have been victims of this same card holder security plan with Bank of America. We feel played and very naive. We were taken advantage of by our own bank. I also know our investigation will come back denied, just like yours did. It is sad to see what Bank Of America and this partner are doing to their customers.
We will be changing banks after this is all over with, which I do not think they even care about. I am sure they have much bigger customers than us. This is a lesson learned to not trust blindly anyone or anything, specially with your money. No matter how reputable a company is, they are in business to make money. My husband and I are very well educated adults and I never, ever, expected to fall into such a trap. Anyways, good luck to you and I hope you go to another bank too.
Due to the economic impact this year in the USA, many banks are expected to fold due to the housing market. In my opinion, maybe bank of America will be one of them.
Thanks and Good Luck.
