For the past 2 or 3 years I have used Adrian Fernandez Insurance in Tampa, Fl. to aquire insurance for my 4 houses. I always worked through their employee, Robert, who was always very good.

Recently Robert left the company and since then I have had nothing but problems with them. When I call no-one will speak to me. I am always told to leave my number and someone will call me back - they never have!

Last week I began calling for flood insurance that I had to have immediately. Once again, no-one called me back, so I still don't have flood insurance. In frustration, on Tuesday of this week I called and asked to speak to the manager. He was at lunch. Later I called back and a man answered the phone and told me he was the manager. I asked for his name and he said, "what do you want?". I told him that I wanted his name before I got into why I was calling. He refused to give his name and kept rudely asking me what I wanted. No "how can I help you?", just "what do you want". Finally, I asked him why he wouldn't give me his name and his reply was, "'cause it's none of your business". I was appaled and hung up on him.

What a way to run a business! I cannot imagine why the manager of an Insurance brokerage will not give his name to customers. What does he have to hide, I wonder? My advice is to never go to Adrian Fernandez for Insurance, you would rue the day! The staff are either rude or totally indifferent to the requests of their customers.

I am taking my business to a family operated agency who will actually sit down and talk over their customer's insurance needs. This may not seem like much of a complaint, but it is infuriating when you must have insurance NOW and no-one can be bothered to talk to you. And having a complete moron in charge of the outfit doesn't help matters at all.

Susan, what a sad story. It looks like the food service mentality has invaded the insurance business in your area.

As an agent for a major insurance company for 22 yrs, I HATE to see examples of poor or non-existent customer service and rudeness that you have just experienced. Frankly, it makes us all look bad.

I think your solution is the best possible one you can choose. Find an established, family run, and recommended local agency. Ask your friends and neighbors where they have there insurance. When you find your admired friends and relatives hit on the same one twice or more, that should give you a good idea. Start a new relationship with a recommended agent. Long term relationships in the insurance business between their agents and clients are priceless.

As for your current agency, I've heard it said that people who've had a great experience with an agency will tell one person, people with a bad experience will tell ten people (in this forum, you've exceeded that).

By going with the family agency, and then cancelling your policies with this ridiculously run agency, you will have the opportunity for a little satisfaction. Write a detailed cancellation request (after you've established new ins) to your previous agency. As much as you can, name names and cite examples, and end the letter with your formal request to cancel all of your accounts. Send a copy to the company itself, not the agency, to make sure your cancellation is processed.

I hope you find a new agency and get away from these unprofessional policy peddlers... Find a quality, energetic agent that you like who you can count on to look out for you. That's what we do in our agency everyday. You should have a good rapport, like you had with Robert.

I hope this information helps you in some way.
