I purchased an item from a camera store, with a promotional offer that expired December 17, 2011, the promotional offer was 0% percent interest if paid in full prior to the expiration date.
My plan was to pay the promotional balance before December 17, 2011 in order to avoid the interest charges, in order to do this I needed my account number, I checked onlione the account is not displayed, it is not available in the e-statement which is supposed to be an exact copy of the mailed statement, I had opted out of receiving a mailed copy in order to save paper (for the environment) and save GE some money since they were kind enough to give me the promotional offer.
I called GE capital twice and spoke with two different people to make sure I got the correct answer, they both told me that GE would email me my statement which will include my account number, and that would take 7 to 10 business days. Unfortunately I did not have that much time as the expiration day was approaching.
I received the statement after the expiration date arrive Dec 17, 2011, by then the interest amount of $725.36 was charged. I believe that GE capital should have provided me with my account number either online in the e-statement or over the phone, so I can pay my balance in a timely manner and avoid the interest charge.

I am not hiding anything nor am I playing games.
I wasn't planning on paying online, my plan was to do a balance transfer to a 0% interest card, so the other bank needed the account number.
I made all my payments on time, when the promotion expiration date approached this is when I decided to do a balancer transfer.
Whether I put myself in this situation or not is besides the point, the point is that I was ready to make the payment and I needed my account number, it's as simple as that, GE Capital refused to give me that information, online or over the phone.

Is your account number required to pay your bill online? No, of course not.

- Timely manner? So just how long did you have during this promotional period? I find it interesting how you seem to be going out of your way to not say how long this period was. Which makes one wonder what else you are going out of your way not to say.
For the sake of this report let's say that you had 90-Days for your promotional period. That would mean that you would have had about 3 e-statements. Any of which you could have realized that there was no account number and called well before the 7-10-Days before your promotional interest ended. Of course this doesn't even include that they probably sent you a card with the account number on it through the mail.
Since you are so concerned about the environment I doubt you were going to do something as horrible as to actually mail a PAPER check. So it is interesting on how you could look at your account on-line but couldn't make a payment on-line. I also find it odd how apparently you could call them up and they apparently are able to know who you are to be able to send a statement but you couldn't make a payment over the phone.
So while there is probably more to this story. Even if it takes them 7-10 days to get you your account number you put yourself into this situation by waiting as long as you did.
