Quickly applied to 'Team Leader' position on Monster.com. Was called this morning to schedule an interview at the Framingham office. When I recieved my interview confirmation e-mail is listed the position as "Account Manager." This is when I knew something was up.

I keep a spreadsheet of all companies to whom I submit an application. Along with this I track the position, location, and job listing source. When I went to Monster to view the position description, I noticed it was listed as Waltham. Framingham itself is a bustling business center, twenty miles from Waltham! Weird, I thought.

On Monster.com the position title is, "Team Leader- Enthusiastic & Outgoing - Paid Training." To make doubly sure, I checked out the position description, qualifications, and responsibilities again. The ad contains the following information, along with a 45-second video of party shots and people in suits. No context at all:

Are you an outgoing and high energy team leader? Join our team! We are currently expanding our client campaign and we are seeking candidates that work well in a strong team environment that will be comfortable taking on team leadership and management roles.

New candidates will receive training to ensure they have all the skills and knowledge that they require to be successful in this high energy industry.  We are seeking candidates that are outgoing, personable & comfortable working in a team oriented environment.

No where does this description reveal what exactly the company DOES. I went on a search of the organizations social media - pitiful by all standards but DISGUSTINGLY neglected for a firm that touts itself as having even the slightest association with marketing. The company's website contains no helpful information. I turned to the world wide web to gain some insight.

I found literally nothing but job listings and reports of this organization (and its sister company - same owner, same building, same ads - Intrinsic Consulting) taking naive employees for a ride. Door-to-Door sales, 100% commission, the list goes on and on..

When I called Cheryl to cancel my interview, it sounded as if she knew it was coming.

"Hi, I have an interview tomorrow at 3pm"

"Okay... What's up?"

"I need to cancel."

"Okay.. [pause] I'll let the hiring team know."

"That's it?"

[pause] "That's it."

No attempt to reschedule, or well wishes hoping that everything is alright. I half expected some push-back and wholly hoped for the opportunity to explain why I wasn't inrterested in selling Verizon FiOS door-to-door.
