Scam. My church did the same thing. Here my story.

AUTHOR: Kay08439 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 07, 2010

It was a few months ago I received mail saying prayer by letter from St. Matthews Church of Oklahoma.  I was intrigued and they caught me at my weak point in my life.  It stated you can receive a free cross for keep sake. Don't give us any money or donations for it. It's simply yours for free.  Well, I responded as it also asked you if there are any prayers you need prayed about to include them on the return envelope and they would pray for you and you will be blessed.  So I did respond. I thought this is nice.  I received my blessed cross after that. I was happy and they held up to their end of the bargain. Well, it was until I started getting more and more mailings from them saying my life will be better and a harvest plan will be sent to you for financial freedom blessings that will come true. I had to take the purple ribbon paper and put it under my pillow and sleep with it one night. Then the next day around sunset it said once you did that you can then open the other envelope that you were not allowed to until the night passed to find out the secret word.  It was nothing you're going to think it is.  Then I opened the envelope it said to mail back that purple ribbon and I will receive my harvest plan. It had a prayer in it and a list of people's success stories who joined this program. I did and got the harvest plan. Figures, they trick you into thinking this is real and something else, but the harvest plan is just a book of 12 pages that you read saying, "I donated this amount of money today." You're supposed to donate 12 times worth however much you want to give and mail that slip in with the donation.  They convince you the only way you will have your prayers come true is if you follow the "Sowing a seed to God, harvest plan" what they mean is by donations from your behalf. I'm sorry, but donating for prayers to come true? That's more than a bit wrong.  God doesn't say in the bible you have to donate money to a church in order to be blessed by him.  They don't demand or require it, but someone weak minded will fall for this. Yet, you won't have your prayers continued and prayers come true by this church if you don't donate. See what I mean? Basically they are hoping to reach certain individuals and "pray" on their weaknesses to get them to do this.  They make you seem as if you are doing a good deed and is the only good deed to do. I was disgusted to find this the next "best thing" coming from them. It isn't right and I stuffed everything back in that envelope came on the internet to google search the name of this church. There are many reports about this all over the internet claiming it to be a scam.  I knew it and yes it is a scam in it's own unique way. So I decided to not go for this new step they want out of you.  If God wants me blessed in life or something else He will do it on His own terms, not just only them by how they want you to. I was one of the weak individuals they almost got lucky with falling for this.  Thank goodness I didn't. Now the other problem? They flood your mail box continuously if you don't donate hoping you will think if you just donate then they will stop mailing.  Well don't fall for that either because that happened to my friend and they didn't stop mailing to her.  They asked for more money every time.  That's okay, I got plenty of trash bags for them to go in now! My point in this: don't get tricked here because that is just what the attempt is. Go to your own local church that you know who they are where you'll be safe.
In fact, here's more proof this is just a scam.  I had a Priest who was head Priest of my Catholic Church for many years. I believe it was about 35 years for him serving my church as head priest. He insisted on a program similar to this and said during mass for people to donate. If they didn't they'd have to do confession because their prayers will not be answered. People fell for it and some just out of the good in their hearts. Others didn't as they didn't agree with how he went about "asking."  He started mailings too that were extremely similar to how St. Mathews does theirs. He also convinced the donations would be used for he church to build a school there.  The school got built, but never was fully finished.  The construction came to halt in the middle of it.  No one knew why at the time. He became greedy and was soon easily seen. He built the school to cover up what he was really up to.  Eventually he got indited because he was caught stealing 90 % of the donations for himself due to that was how much going in, but really going in his pockets.  Other members were not receiving their pay that were salaried employees. That's really how it eventually became him being caught and while the donations were put back in the room where they were kept for counting and later put in the bank; he went back there to stuff the money in a bag.

So really, be aware, be in the know, and don't take the risk. This place fits the profile of what happened in my church here.

not a blessing.

AUTHOR: Paul - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 01, 2009

The above blessing, while aok, is symptomatic of those who will poopoo the scam and somewhat support it in the homes that gods will will still get thru to a need.

Any support of this scam, even knowing its a scam, makes that person part of the scam and equally evil.

This scam is not a blessing and to consider it even related to one is foolish.

THis is not god or satan in this scam, it is just one guy for 30+ years who is expert at getting $$ from people stupid enough to give up there $$.

Me, I give soley to a local outfit that I personally know, and the only tv or other I would even consider is BillyGraham himself (not even his son).

Giving in the name of Christ , Receiver is accountable to God for how money is used : )

AUTHOR: Harmon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 26, 2009

Hello to all ,
In the matter of St Matthews , I have not particularly found any false literature in their mailings ; It is sort of fun and a nice way of practicing little rituals (If you will ) or ones faith ;

I have sent a few bucks when I could afford it to these folks in Tulsa and they have always sent thank you notes from time to time ; I have no regrets from it because to me it was money I was sending for the work of the Lord ; Incidently I did notice a lot of nice things happening in my life ;

Sometimes I would fill out the prayer page and send nothing but sometimes 5-10 bucks ?? It was a seed in my mind sown for the kingdom of Gods work and I was blessed for it ;

The literature they send out is fun to read and I guess if someone gets inspired by the Holy Spirit in prayer in whatever way it is achieved is a nice thing ; Any Church out there is asking for money , that is a given , Tv evangelist etc. ; They need donations I suppose to do what they do ;

If the money is given from the heart for the continuing spread of Gods word or his works then the sender will surely be blessed , this is a promise from God ; Now if the funds which are given by me for the work of the Church are mis-used than it is not for me to answer to ;

I pray for the folks at Saint Matthews that their work is not in vain , As for me what-ever I have sent was for a purpose , After it was sent in my heart the purpose was fulfilled and forgotten by me ; My Faith is in God and his beloved Son Jesus Christ , Not Saint Matthews , some Tv evangelist , Local preacher etc ; What I give is to God and his work wherever I give it ;

I hope this is a new posting and not an answer to someone else , I am new to this site but just wanted to speak a little on my experience on giving ; I hope someone will read this and not feel so bitter toward this church or that church because you wonder what is being done with the money ;

My advice to all is give from the heart to whatever charity or organization in the name of Christ that you choose then leave it to God ; Forget it and go on with your life , If one gives to anything grudgingly or with the least question of (Should I be doing this ? ) Then it was given in vain ;

I hope this note will be a blessing to somebody out there ; May God bless you all and may God bless our country ;
Thanks , Harmon
