Missed a connecting flight in Dallas because American Airlines was late on the first leg. The so called expedia Flight Insurance somehow does not cover flight problems, what ??. What a goofball company American Airlines is. Even though the first AA flight was over 2hrs late it still arrived in Dallas with 3 minutes to catch the connecting AA flight. But then you run into AA's goofball set up in the Dallas airport. AA has gates spread out all over the place and you have to ride a train to get to these other gates as AA plays a shell game changing the gates as flights land. Ride the train to the gate on the airport monitor and find a flight attendant sending you to a gate with the flight boarding on the other side of the airport. As you ride the train again you can look out the window and see your flight lifting off without you. AA knew the first flight arrived and the attendant at the wrong gate knew we were there riding the train to the changed gate. Why the blank did they let the plane take off ? So there I was stuck in Dallas in the parking lot with my wife and kids trying to find a room at 1:00am. My Triple FFF rated American Airlines doesn't comp for it no worries I paid a ton of money for insurance to cover problems like this. WRONG !! Stay away from American Airlines, expedia.com and the Dallas airport if you ride AA. It cost me $300 for my little stay in Dallas and the expedia's no worries Flight Insurance plan.

What caused the missed 2nd leg was:

1.) The plane was at a different gate listed on the Dallas Airport flight information monitor. We were at that gate listed incorrectly with time to spare. We were also told in flight  that all connecting flights are delayed also and we would have no problem catching the next leg.

2.) AA gates are spread out over what appears to be miles of airport in Dallas with a train system to navigate it. Dallas looks like nothing more than a connection flight facility with small planes on one side big somewhere else.

3.) Expedia shows more than just connection flights however there were no direct flights on multiple websites with multiple airlines. Thanks anyway, duh.

4.) I could see this happening with using different airlines for the connect but not the same airline.

5.) AA wouldn't even bring my luggage up because "our crew will be going home shortly".

6.) I purchased Flight Protection for this bs. Which is actually not real flight protection.

These problems I'm sure occur on a daily basis. 

AA = Triple FFF

        I don't put up with it but your response is why these problems exist.

If the flight was delayed due to weather, or plane problems, how can  you blame the airlines?
If they decide to hold the 2nd leg of your flight, then they would have to hold the 2nd leg of everybody's flights who were on that plane.

Then all those people on the 2nd leg of the flight would have been delayed for their next leg, if they had one. 

So the airlines chose the best situation of the 2 evils, make several other flights late in arriving because they held the flights for  you, or just let those on the first leg of your flight miss a flight.

AA made the right call.
There are always unavoidable delays when traveling.

If you want to avoid something like this in the future, take a earlier flight, and wait a bit longer at the airport for your 2nd leg, or better yet, fly Non Stop, and pay the extra premium.

Companies like Expedia make their money  by putting you on flights that have several legs , because they are cheaper.
