AIU is definitely a ripoff. I was told that I would have to take Microsoft office through an outside group that cost 200.00 since they only offer it as components and there are four components at fifty dollars each. Well I had already taken Power Point through the school and passed the class and then was told i would have to take it again through a group called Brainbench.

Brainbench is not a certified school they only offer quicky certificates to show your employer that you know how to use a program. Brainbench has no certification with the feds or any state. Since they are not certified, then how can they offer this as prior learning or credits for class? Legally they can't.

They also told me that they would have to add a science class, history class, and a social science class to my schedule since I did not have these credits, but they waited till I was almost through before doing that. I went ahead like a fool and signed the promissary note for the extra 3,500.00 dollars since they can't get anymore financial aid for me.

As far as anybody sticking up for these guys by saying that they are accredited by the Southern Accrediting association. That means nothing since unless they are accredited by the northeastern accreding assoiation, their credits won't transfer anywhere but to another school like them. And for whoever posted here saying that your southern universities are accredited by this southern accredidation agency, they are not, they are accredited through the traditional northeastern association which accredits all community, junior and four year colleges and universities.

I have recently talked with professor's with universities from around the country by email and phone and they have said they wouldn't touch these schools with a ten foot pole.

They also quit responding to emails at the school once you call them on this crap. I have yet to get answer from my advisor on an issue with a teacher who gave me a failing grade for a project that was turned in on time.

To Peter who responded to my post. First and foremost how could you say that this is my fault? I was told by AIU to go through this Brain bench, I did not solicit Brain bench nor do they have a credit system. And just who should I get written approval from? Brain bench? I don't think you know that you don't get anything in writing when it comes to credit transfer all you get is a course evaluation by any school not just AIU. Even Harvard will deny some classes if they don't have the same course description as theirs.

Brain Bench is also as bad as AIU as I tried a really hard free class to see if I could pass it and I failed and they issued me one of their certificates anyway!

So you must be an AIU lackey of course. Blame me for something that they did not tell me about when I enrolled that I would need these extra classes to graduate.

If you think that somehow this is my fault why don't you apply at AIU and give them all of your transcripts from other colleges and then ask them if you have every class you need and they tell you you do. And then when you approach graduation you suddenly find out that you need these courses offered by Brain Bench and of course they will still need extra money from you that they can't explain.

Will see what kind of comment you have then on this site. It is not my fault that I followed through on everything that they say they needed before I started school including transcripts which they got before my first class ever started and they weren't smart enough to compare classes between my transcripts and what they required for graduation.

But did you get this in WRITING? No school will authorize credit transfer for work taken elsewhere without PRIOR WRITTEN APPROVAL. This is standard among all schools. Your failure to get written permission to take the course is not the school's fault - only your own.
