I was working for a company called USA Logistics which had terminals in McAllen & Laredo, Texas. I was en route with another driver coming from Canada when we received word, very abruptly that our employer had gone out of business and been taken over by a new company. We had already picked up our load in Brockville, Ontario. This was No one from either the old company or new company notified us except over the phone to relay the news, and to redirect us to the Laredo terminal. We arrived at the Laredo terminal on Saturday, August 4 (2012) just before midnight. When we got there, the Celadon security guard told us to drop the load in the yard and leave the cab at another location, even though the client was waiting for the load at a truck stop nearby, and we offered to drop it off. This security guard had no further information for us and since the terminal is in the trucking district we were stuck there without transporation of any kind. Obviously, the security guard was aware of the take over and knew that employees from USA logisitcs would be dropping their loads off there.

Later, we heard that USA logistics employees were instructed to drop their loads in Indianapolis or Dallas, wherever they happened to be closest. Finally, this Celadon security guard said we could leave the load there and  directed us to another yard where we were to drop off the cab, because the dispatch was open and presumably they would have information for us. When we got there, I saw a few other people had their luggage left out in the front and a group of people we sitting at a picnic table. We asked the Celedon securty guard what we were supposed to do and if any plans had been made for us. He didn't know anything, except he said he thought Celadon was offering work to some of the old employees.

Inside the office, a Celadon dispatcher told me no one would have any information until the office opened the next morning at 8:00 am, but that we could spend the night in our cab if we wanted. The APU had not been working and that didn't seem like a viable option to us. So instead, we opted to take a cab, at our expense, to the Greyhound station in downtown Laredo. No one was waiting for us to give us a ride or anything. Nor did anyone at Celadon spring for a motel room. If Celadon really wanted us as new employees, why was no one waiting there at their terminal to take us to a motel room or the Greyhound station?

When I arrived at the Laredo Greyhound, I found out the bus only leaves once a day for McAllen, and it's at 10:00 am, so I had to hang around the Greyhound terminal for around eight hours. There was a motel nearby but it was booked up. When I arrived back in McAllen, a recruiter from Celadon phoned me the following Monday offering me a position and to fly me to Indianapolis for orientation. I put him off for a week and he called a week later, but I did not accept. After reading these reviews, it appears I made the right decision.

Celedon opted not to use the McAllen terminal. The McAllen terminal was USA logistic's main terminal and it was quite large. Not only did Celadon put a large trucking company out of business, alot of driver's lost their jobs.

Stranded in Laredo thanks to Celedon

AUTHOR: smartconsumer - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, October 18, 2012

The name of the company I worked for was USA Dry Van and it was located at 3101 West Military Highway in McAllen, Texas with a terminal in Laredo for dropping off and picking up loads. They also went by the name USA carrier/logistics. This company had alot of employees and alot of drivers. Then I spoke to the Celadon recruiter, he told me they would not be using the McAllen office. Our terminal in Laredo was for dropping off and  picking up loads. Now the McAllen terminal is closed, the building and grounds are up for rent. They could've left the McAllen terminal open and alot of people would not be out of jobs now. This company basically left us stranded in Laredo with no transportation or lodging. I think they hired some of the employees from USA Dry Van but they left them outside sitting in the heat at a picnic table until the facility opened and they could make arrangements for them to go to Indianapolis. These people had their belongings left near the security guard's post.

In any event, no word was left for returning USA Dry Van employees dropping off loads and they were basically left stranded in Laredo. No reimbursement for Greyhound ticket to McAllen from Laredo.
