Marie and Mario Simoes in August 2007 took 7 dogs to the Westpark animal hospital in Cleveland ohio to be put to sleep. These puppies are pure bred AKC siberian Husky puppies. Their mother who was only 6 month old when they were whelped (she got pregnant) and had a genetic mange that she passed down to the puppies. Some puppies were also diagnosed with parvo. A very seriouse health problem and in most cases deadly. Due to this mange the puppies lost all of their hair and eyes were scabbed shut. This is to inform potential buyers of this byb (back yard breeder) that this has happened. If you go to their website www.huskytreasures.com it says nothing about surrendering 7 dogs and the mother, or that there even was another litter. A husky rescue took them all in and they have all found homes. They are still dealing with this mange. Do not buy from this breeder. They will take no responsibility for their actions.

Owner of a pup from Simoes Husky Treasures

AUTHOR: JayF - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, August 17, 2009

As the owners and family of a pup from one of Marie and Mario Simoes litters, my wife and I take offense at the way in which you chose to voice your accusations which you call fact.  First and foremost, our dog is by no means substandard.  As a rescue association you should know that every dog is special and certainly deserves more than to be called substandard by you.  Perhaps you are a substandard human being?  Our dog is the kindest and most fun loving dog Ive ever had the pleasure of being around.  Her name is Nika and she was raised with love by the Simoes and their son until she was 8 weeks old.

We located Mario and Marie on the net using a breeders website.  I emailed their website and within an hour had a response and a request to talk in person over the phone.  The purpose of the phone call which lasted nearly an hour was to get to know me and the reasons I was looking for a husky.  We discussed everything from the kind of care the breed needs to its personality traits.  And this IS a fact.  During this conversation I could tell Marie was genuinely interested in what kind of home the pup would be going to.  We cant speak for others but in our case, the Simoes know exactly where Nika is and what kind of home she has.  During the time between our first contact and when we drove to Cleveland from Philadelphia to pick up our dog, we spoke numerous times over the phone and through email and the Simoes were always open to any question my wife or I had to ask.  We were sent pictures of Nika at least on a weekly basis.  The Simoes also require that you pick up your puppy in person, which I find is certainly NOT an indication of someone breeding dogs just for the money but as an indication of someone who truly cares about the puppy.

When we arrived to pick Nika up we were welcomed into their home to meet Koda and Cookie, the father and mother.  An entire room of their house is dedicated to the puppies.  It is also a sterile environment meaning that outsiders are not allowed to step into the puppy room or handle puppies due to the risk of transmission of disease prior to receiving their full vaccination regimens.  The Simoes were also up front about what happened to their first litter and when she told us the story in person, it was evident that she and her husband care immensely for these dogs.  So, in our opinion the Simoes took full responsibility for what happened to their first litter and their actions were consistent with what they believe was in the best interest of the dogs.  You cant ask any more than that from someone.  To the person who wrote the critiqueYour facts as you call them are littered with so many inconsistencies which are contrary to everything weve experienced with the Simoes which leads us to believe this is a personal vendetta.

Nika is now nearly 8 months old and she has been an absolute pleasure.  We cant go for a walk in the park without being stopped numerous times by people telling us how beautiful she is.  Nika is GREAT with kids, has been completely healthy, and is full of happiness and affection for us.  She is an all around wonderful dog and is one of the family.

WHY?

AUTHOR: Marie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 16, 2009

Lets address some issues that you claim are FACT and STRAIGHT.

You label me as a BYB (back yard breeder) for profit and profit alone. I do this for the love of my dogs. And want to share in this wonderful experience of having a Husky. Period!

When we have a litter, I take a lot of time off from work to care for the babies. I socialize them, clean and bathe them, scrub the nursery on my hand s and knees daily, feed them, give manicures once a week, weigh them daily and love them like they were my own children. I know their little personalities, what they like and dislike by the time they are ready for their forever homes.

As far as being health certified, my pets are seen regularly by the vet  and up on vaccines and medications. (Heartworm etc). And what makes you think my Huskies are sub-standard Is it because they are not show dogs?

Referring to the first litter:

I am a very hands on caregiver. So much so, that when 1 puppy wasnt acting like itself at 5 weeks I took it to the vet clinic. If it wasnt for me insisting on further tests that puppy would have died. A test for Parvo was conducted. It was positive. The vet said the puppy would probably only have a 30% chance of survival.  Along with her litter-mates. I rushed the other 7 puppies to the vet to test as well, they were all negative. I asked the vet what my options were. I was given 3.

1: give treatment to the sick one and quarantine the others for 2 weeks at a cost of 4000.00-8000.00. (yes, thousands)

2: put the sick one down (put to sleep) take the others home and wait for them to get sick, because they probably will due to how quick this virus spreads.

Or 3: call the Husky Rescue Shelter and they would make sure the pups would have the best possible treatment available and find great homes for them.

I chose 3. It seemed like the best thing for all the babies. I was so grateful for the intervention with the shelter.

Now, lets talk about the mom, Maya. Maya is a wonderful dog. We did not know she had mange. I have tons and tons of pictures of her that show absolutely no signs of any kinds of issues. She WAS taken to 2 different vet clinics. The first one in Berea, I was told she was stressed due to the pregnancy. She was 10 months when whelped not 6 as you state as fact. The second was our regular clinic. (One that the Shelter endorses on thier flyer.)  They said the same thing. It wasnt until Maya delivered her babies did she start to loose hair. A skin test was done and thats when we found out about the genetic mange. I was not allowed to treat her because of the babies nursing. At the time I surrendered the puppies , I was approached to surrender  Maya as well, by the clinic. They said it would be in her best interest. It broke my heart. And when I read your letter, its like you take pleasure in breaking my heart again.

COULD YOU STOP EMAILING AND TORTURING ME WITH PICTURES OF MAYA AND ONE OF HER PUPPIES.

Who are these  experts with YEARS of experience?  No one has tried to contact me or help me with any kind of advice or education. The only thing I was told at your Husky Hike was to get a SHOW DOG so I could make the BIG BUCKS. Meaning  1500.00 per pup.

I know where every single puppy is. I have all addresses and phone numbers and keep contact on a regular basis. I make darn sure and well families know what its like to have a Husky. I tell them all the not so good traits if a Husky first. I dont just sell to anyone who wants a dog. I weed out the bad from the good. And I am proud to say, ALL my babies have found wonderful, wonderful families who love them. I educate all my families how important it is to have their puppies vaccinated. I tell them about Parvo, and heartworm disease and how deadly it can be.

I DO NOT believe in a spay/neuter contract. That is a personal family decision. Who am I to say what a family does with their pet.

Anybody who has dealt with me (Husky Treasures) knows the truth. I have told every single family about our first litter.

This will be my last rebuttal I know in my heart that we did the right thing.

Bad Breeder

AUTHOR: Youknow - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 08, 2009

Marie and Mario Simoes of M & M Huskies are what you would call a Back Yard Breed or a BYB.

Byb's breed for profit and profit alone. They "claim" to love the breed. If you love a breed of dog wouldn't you want to better it, not ruin it and do everything possible to make sure that happens?

M & M's huskies are NOT up to breed standard regardless of being AKC. Yes, you can have a dog that is not up to standard that has papers. They are also NOT health certified. Two of the puppies from their first litter are requiring surgery already at age 2. Weather it was a gene brought on by the mother or the father? We'll never know because they were never tested. The father is still in their possession and is the only stud.

A Reputable breeder does NOT have an Oops litter and if they do they take responsibility for it. A reputable breeder is prepared to face ALL obstacles they might incur while breeding regardless of cost. That is the choice they made when deciding to breed.

Along with surrendering 8 sick puppies, they also surrendered the Mother, which was their dog. Why wouldn't they have kept the mother, had her spayed and treated? Oh, because she could no longer produce puppies! She was NOT required to be surrendered with the puppies.

A reputable breeder who is concerned about their dog's health would take their dog to a second vet for a second opinion.

Even after putting their family through such a HORRIFIC experience, they have been approached by experts with YEARS of experience with the breed and have chose to ignore the help and attempts to educate. They have since inquired another b itch that was also bred at an inappropriate age that is ALSO not up to standard.

A reputable breeder knows where their puppies are going and staying. They require them to be returned to themselves if they can no longer be cared for. The Simoes have no idea where the puppies end up.

They do not educate buyers on the breed for fear they will not be sold. A reputable breeder sells with a spay/neuter contract. Do NOT buy from this breeder, the offspring WILL have health problems in the future and they WILL NOT take responsibility for them.

These ARE all facts and ARE all straight.

Get the facts straight!!

AUTHOR: Marie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 27, 2009

I just saw this report. First get the facts straight before you deface someone.

Maya was a little older than 6 mo old when she got pregnant. When I took her to the vet to have the "morning after injection" they(vet)told me not to do it. That it would be more harmful than the pregnancy. I did not know she had mange until after the fact. The vet told me twice she was suffering from stress and don't worry it would be fine. I DID NOT take the puppies to be put asleep. One wasn't acting right so I took her to the vet right away. They told me she was fine, I insisted they do more tests. They did a parvo test and it was positive.
The way it was explained to me, only 30% of parvo puppies survive.
And the cost would be 1000.00$ and no guarantee of survival. What would you do? Then they told me of a rescue shelter that would care for the puppy and it's litter mates, due to the fact that this awful disease would spread to the others in time, and unless they were quarantined and treated they would not survive.

Yes we are still breeding. No one comes into our clean home. I tell all my adoptees what happened with the first liter and that's why no one comes to our house until the babies are ready for their new homes.

So before you go flapping your gums GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT!!!

When I saw this report, I just could not believe this nasty report. You have NO idea what my family went through during that HORRIFIC experience.

Marie and Mario Simoes
