Petland sold my family a puppy that died in a week. We shared our documentation with several reporters. In the past week, three other families were in the news that also purchased their puppy from the Slivko's Monroeville Petland. They also lost their puppies to death due to illness. Clay and Jessica Slivko purchase their puppies through Hunte. They also do not follow up with their customers unless you file formal complaints. Mr. Slivko is trying to blame HSUS for his puppy issues. I would contact Petland Pittsburgh Monroeville, and ask Mr. Slivko if he purchases his puppies through Hunte. Ask him exactly how many puppies have died since he opened the store in 2001. Ask him how he and his wife sleep at night. Ask him to tell you when he plans to stop making excuses and do something about his store. If you should get a response from him, please post it.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Humane Society of the United States is suing Petland Inc., accusing the pet store chain of orchestrating a scheme to sell sick puppies to unsuspecting consumers.

The animal protection group said Petland, based in Chillicothe, Ohio, intentionally misled thousands of Americans into believing that puppies were healthy and the product of the finest quality breeders.

The group said its investigation shows that many of the puppies sold by Petland were bred in horrific conditions in puppy mills or through brokers such as the Hunte Corp., based in Goodman, Mo.

The lawsuit was filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix.

An urn filled with ashes is all Mary Morrow and her family have left as a reminder of their dog Bear.

Morrow said she paid more than $3,000 for Bear and another dog at a Petland store in Monroeville in March 2008, but both dogs had health problems and in July, 3-month-old Bear died.

"It's horrible buying a dog, and it's like you're buying a new member of your family and they get sick and die," said Mary Morrow.

Petland said Tuesday the company is outraged and disappointed by what it called false accusations. A message seeking comment was left Hunte headquarters.

Local Petland owners said the accusation aren't true.

"The government agency responsible to make sure puppies are being bred correctly is the FDA," said Clay Slivka, owner of the Petland store in Monroeville. "So if the Humane Society had evidence that the puppies were being breed incorrectly they should have informed the FDA. To this date there's no evidence from the FDA."

Apparently, Inside Edition is reviewing information regarding the Slivko's Petland store. Many people have sent a public video on the internet. It is hard to believe that they sell sick animals that end up dying. When will this end? When will they do the right thing for their animals and their customers. Petland Pittsburgh Monroeville is actually owned by Clayton R. Slivko and Jessica L. Slivko they are dba Petland. Mr. Slivko will not contact us regarding the death of the puppy that his store sold sick. His staff says that he works 14 hour days and can't be reached for a week or more. He lives in the same city as the store. How hard can it be to care about his customers or the animals that he sells? This is a franchise, so Mr. Slivko is responsible and so is Petland. When will someone take responsibility for the way these animals are treated and sold?
