I have been sick to my stomach since Wachovia merged and/or was assimilated into Wells Fargo. WF's practices are unethical, their customer service representatives are rude beyond rude, and frankly I feel based upon my research into class action suits against them that they're yet another example of a towering financial institution who doesn't understand the meaning of assisting their customers unless doing so opens up an avenue for them to assess a charge against your account. I have been trying to resolve an issue that occurred in the final weeks of my account ownership at Wachovia, and WF's answer has been that Wachovia's fault is not their own, and they continue to take money from my account as a set-off against charges levied against my old account. They do so with no warning, just pull whatever balance is remaining at the end of the day and then when I have checks come in which I wrote with the account balance to cover them, they "bounce" them and slap me with an NSF fee. I am (praise the Lord) in the process of swinging our direct deposits into a new institution and once that is accomplished, I will no longer have to deal with their thievery and uncooperative, bullying customer service.
To those of you who are WF customers either by choice or merger, please PLEASE pay attention to your daily balance, and if you have a problem, don't count on or rely upon telephone customer service but present yourself at a branch where you can sit down with someone, write down their name and description, and document EVERYTHING.
My next stop is the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's Office.

When Wells swallowed up Wachovia, they didn't buy any of the liabilities. That was the condition they and the government agreed to. The government promised to take on all liabilities Wachovia created. I suppose your bad fortune is that it happened to be WF that bought Wachovia instead of BofA; once the institutions merged, your separated accounts were no longer separated. As I said, bad fortune on your part. WF is really no different than any bank because of uniform regulations, uniform practices, and uniform policies. When I see people saying go to a Credit Union or another bank...it's like sending someone from one devil to another.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter the institution. It only matters how you personally play the game. If you can't handle the practices at one bank, the next one isn't any better.... Best of fortune to you.

Wachovia/Wells Fargo or Joe's Bank, it wouldn't matter. Unless you can prove that the charges on your old account are wrong, you have to pay your debt.
