Basically, All Pro Automotive said I could pay in one given matter and then on day of picking up vehicle, said no.

I had an agreement for $2456.61 to have a used engine placed into my 96 Chevy Beretta. I was strapped for cash, and was recieving financial help from Chicago.

I was told we could pay via CC over the phone. (cash advances on CC's are rather pricey/@20 something %) All Pro Said "ok".

On day of pick up, girl named Tiffaney calls their main office and is informed payment cannot be accepted in such a manner.

We ended up having to do the cash advance and use a cashiers check.

Secondly, the car, had a rattling noise, mechanic tells me it's rust behind the Ac unit and will go away. I was under the impression he knew what he was talking about.

By the way, I am mechanically inclined and know something about cars.

Enroute back to Chicago with car,(I was moving back).... car now overheats up in GA. I am a good way up the road, and to top it off... rust water is coming out of motor.

I had car checked at my mechanic in Chicago and told there is probably air pockets in engine compartment, due to new block designs, so it would need a flushing and the cap was bad on the resivior.

That same evening... that rattling I mentioned, which never went away, ended up being the AC compressor. It locked up, ripped my belt in two as well.

Any mechanic worth his weight would have known what was going on with the compressor.

When car was completed at my mechanic, an additional $1300.00 had been spent, a good amount of rusted, mucky fluid pulled from motor, and my feeling that All Pro isn't worth the time or money given to them.

lets not defend the rip off artist!

AUTHOR: DOCCC - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 01, 2009

I have a similar post against this company.  I was happy to see someone else had expressed their oppinion.  But I was very disappointed to hear some of the excuses Shaun had expressed in his comments.  Lets remember one thing, people:  these are supposed to be ASE certified mechanics!  They are paid to be on top of their game!  They are paid to be trusted for their education on automobiles and repair.  It would be one thing if these people over at all-pro made a simple mistake or overlooked something accidentally.  In regards to my post on them related to what they called a "faulty power steering pump" lets consider this:  I later took my car to a place called Willard's near the beach.  Turns out it was not the faulty power steering pump but the broken linkage as I originally expected!  Had they took a look at the car, they would have known this.  Had I trusted them with disregard to human error, I would have been out $500 or more!  Shaun, let's not defend a company you've never been too or one where you've never utilized their services.  From the looks of your post, you are a mechanic as well or work for a shop that performs similar services.  If you are friends with the ownership of this company, I can certainly understand the motives behind your post, but your are doing an incredible injustice to the purpose of this website.  And for that matter, if you had pulled this stunt with me or any other consumer, you would be here on RipOffReport as well.  Be thankful that you are not, be glad you have a good reputation as a mechanic (if you do) and be thankful that their poor efforts to remain a trusting service provider in our community may bring you more business.  The purpose here is not to take offense because you are involved in this industry.  And the truth is we, the public, hire mechanics because the average person knows squat about their car.  Perhaps you could apply your same analogy to your most recent visit to the doctor's office with a loved one?  Maybe we, the public, should all go nose deep in medical journals to make sure we are on our game before trusting our lives with our doctor's?  Sounds crazy?  Well, it is!!!  I pay big money to have my car repaired cause I CAN'T trust my own work on my vehicle and still be able to feel safe going down the highway in a tin can doing 60 that could potentially end the life of me and my family if something goes wrong.  Please Shaun.  Unless you have experienced the lack of attention the company demonstrates on a regular basis, save the comment.  Thanks :)

worth his weight

i have just a few comments on this report. this writer states he knows a little about cars. yet, couldnt identify rust in his radiator. nor did he have the motivation to recheck the mechanics work in regards to the radiator cap. it surprises me that he couldnt himself identify a knocking a/c compressor. i can appreciate the trouble he went thru, but to put all the blame on a company AND state he knows a few things about cars just mistifies me. if this customer was taken, then i feel for him. but he stated himself he knows about cars....how could he not identify a noise, and then return to the svc facility prior to his trip? or a second opionion from another local shop. personally, i feel the man should have gotten what he paid for. a new engine. but if the radiator and cap was original eqpt in his car, and not changed, gee i wonder whose fault THAT part really belongs to.

when you purchase a used engine from a repair shop, all of your original components are transferred over from your old engine. your a/c compressor, your alternator, steering pump, etc.
this man makes it seem like he came in, laid his money down, and left without asking the RIGHT questions. those being, can i return in the morning to have you recheck your work, after my first evening of driving. to check for anything overlooked. do you back your work. is it nationwide, or simply local. will you cover labor, or parts if i have to have repairs in another city. did you flush the block? replace the thermostat and gasket? did you replace the rear main seal?

i dont like seeing customers taken advantage of. i used to work in the auto industry for 11 years before moving on. but at the same time, a customer has an obligation to his vehicle. you cant just assume the guy under the hood is 100% on his game. mechanics are humans. we make errors. to just blame the shop, is sad. he obviously had faulty components on his vehicle to begin with. was the vehicle towed in to the shop? he doesnt say. if it was, then im pretty sure the mech may not have been able to hear the engine run in the first place, negating the ability to hear the a/c noise. personally i have never told a customer or heard of anyone telling a customer "rust is behind your compressor" thats like saying the tooth fairy exists.

good luck with your vehicle there Frank, in chicago.

but i dont buy that your mechanically inclined, and know squat about cars.
