My wife had her check engine light come on during a trip to south Florida from Atlanta. They stayed over in Ocala FL that night and in the morning took the car to the first place they could find which was ATL. She just wanted to read the codes from the computer and if it wasn't anything major, then be on her way. The error code that was presented to her was for a catalytic converter error, no big deal. I told her to get the oil changed and be on her way. After another hour I get a call from her that she let them (for $60 extra dollars)do a "complete diagnostic" and that they now recommended $1600-$1900 worth of work to the car. I spoke to the manager to find out what was so expensive and basicly this is the run down of what they wanted to do.

Flush transmission, flush/clean fuel system, replace 2 Cat converter sensors, replace all 4 spark plugs and replace valve cover gasket, change the oil.

They said they would have the car done in about 2-3 hours.

After I spoke to Patrick, I told my wife NOT to have any of those things done. She said she was worried about the car and that they "already had it taken apart so they may as well do the work".

What?! This is like $600 worth of work at most that I could do myself for much cheaper, told my wife to make them put it back together and head down to Marco. The check engine light was no big deal.
She was crying and hysterical and so worked up that she could not think clearly, no Idea what they told her but long story short, $1600+ later she is back on the road after a few minor tune up issues.

These people sound very nice, but will do whatever it takes to separate you from your money. And they, like most other shops, love easily frightened women who are far away from home.

Car is an 04 Toyota Corolla, regularly maintained by Toyota of Roswell with about 100k miles on it.
