In order to provide a great educational experience for potential students Cal Southern University has a proprietary model that looks at all students as prospective learners. They provide information about the school to see if the university is the right fit for them. Unlike other for-profit institutions which actively advertise to enroll students, Cal Southern takes a passive approach to see if they are a good fit. They have created a mandatory login for courses, which can be done at the students discretion based on their schedule and convenience factor. They have incorporated a mentor based learning model which allows students to be connected to their Advisor, Associate Dean, and Dean.
California Southern University is currently accredited with Distance Education Learning and are in the eligibility stage of WASC.
All of the professors at their university have one degree higher than what they are teaching, unless it is a terminal degree (Ph.D). Each has a masters with 18 credits from regionally accredited schools. Customer Care
Since complaints were made on Ripoff Report, their university has made some changes to provide a better level of understanding about the expectations that they expect from prospective students. For example, now both students and alumni have complete access to an easy to navigate website with all details for them to understand and to provide them with standard information about the institution.
If a complaint is made, there are certain standards they take to effectively resolve them. Student complaints can come at different levels: to the advisor, associate dean, and dean. These issues are usually resolved immediately. There is an official complaint procedure for policy or performance, and it is published. There is also a formalized process that keeps track of all complaints and these reports are available to the accreditation agency. If they disagree with the decision, they can appeal it to higher levels. Most of their complaints require further clarification, and very few go past the dean.
During the onsite interview, executive members of the administration were was asked how they would handle a situation where a student has enrolled in courses, but their expectations were not met: “I would have regular check-ins with their academic advisor. There is a 10-day check if they are falling back on their coursework. They have the ability to add or drop within 14 days within the next month and get a 100% refund within the first week, and after that it is a sliding scale. If they don’t perform, they are put on academic probation and are dismissed if they still continue to perform poorly after two extensions. About Reports on Ripoff Report

California Southern University - CalSouthern University Scam "University" - Front University to Get Tuition Payments and Sell Textbooks Santa Ana California
At the beginning of June 09, I enrolled as an online student in the California-accredited School of Behavioral Sciences at California Southern (CalSouthern) University. Within two weeks, I discovered that the other "students" were merely names on the screen--they did not really exist, except in the virtual world, and they were designed to give the impression that there were many students in the class. In reality, there were only 1 or 2 "real" (flesh-and-blood, legitimate) students. It was easy to discern the "fake" students, as they did not post messages and, when they did, they had very broken English--even those students who claimed they were born and raised in the US. What was actually happening was that the online discussion forum and "student" interactions were being monitored by people in either India or the Philippines. In other words, no students were actually involved, but "front students" -- people in either India or the Philippines--were being paid to act as students and give the impression that there were many students in the class and that the program was popular.
Additionally, the instructors were also fronts and, when I contacted them via e-mail, their responses were again in the same broken English as that of a non-native English speaker--despite the fact that both professors supposedly had Ph.Ds, were Caucasian, and were educated (BA - Ph.D.) in the US. These inconsistencies in the language capabilities between the messages I received from the "professors" and their purported qualifications and credentials were amazing.
The above suggests that CalSouthern University in general, and the School of Behavioral Sciences in particular, is a scam university, the purpose of which is to get your initial tuition payment, make you buy the required texts and then, once you receive the syllabus, require you to buy more (APA-approved, Thomson Publisher) books. Then, once you begin taking classes and discover that no other students are there and that there are no professors, it's too late: they already have your money.
This is a scam/front university, and I advise you to stay away. If you have $1000.00 to spend to learn the lesson I did, spend it on something that will make you happy. Be wary: there's nothing to be learned at CalSouthern except for how scammers operate.
