I was employed by Accountemps around June 2008. Accountemps sent me on a Data Entry Assignment at Citizens Schools, Inc in Boston, MA the same month.

My scheduled hours were 2 days a week, 10 am to 3pm.

I was responsible for entering information paper applications into a computer database.

For the 1st 3 weeks, I would usually finish my work 1-2 hours early, and the managers at Citizen Schools, Inc. would allow me to leave around 1pm.

During the last week in June 2008 while on the assignment, I showed up at 10:20am two days in a row instead of the usually 10:00am that I usually show up.

The managers at Citizens Schools then notified Accountemps that I was "late" and that they wanted another temp.

'An Intelligent Employee who can find another job in 1 hour, or who can start his/her business AND generate income all within 24 hours, if working as an employee on a job will do anything he/she wants to do if he believes that it will not interfere with the work that is being performed, since he/she works WITHOUT fear. He understands that he is doing the company a favor; the Employer needs her/him more than he/she needs the Employer.'

Obviously, this is not you or you wouldn't be working for a temp agency per your own words. When you do data entry work, it's about quantity along with quality. When you show up 20 minutes late, that means you are doing 20 minutes less of data entry than would someone who can show up on time. Did you even bother to call them to tel them you'd be late? I doubt it, which makes it a no call no show. That's grounds for termination and the temp agency should have fired you for that. Working for a temp agency is like working for Wal-Mart...it's only to get some experience in something so you can get by later with a better job and you're completely expendable. The company in no way shape or form relies soley on you. If you can't or won't do your job, they'll replace you with someone who can and will. Grow up.

Are you kidding me?

Citizen Schools, which has done so many outstanding things in this community for middle & high school kids to enhance their lives and you waste our time with this self-centered drivel of a comment.

They did you a favor by firing you for not showing up on time & your lax workload isn't an excuse!

Learn from it, grow up, show up on time and do your job because you'll find that all employers will respond the same way.

Your response just shows a lack of maturity and selfishness and only confirms that Citizen Schools runs a good operation.

In your case, since the employee is required to attend to customers, he/she must be on time.

My situation is a little different since I am working on a computer doing the same repetitive task every day without interacting with anyone else.

My point is that an employee should be able to do whatever they want to do, if it doesn't interfere with the work that is being performed.

No, Accountemps didn't "can" me. "Job Security" is not my primary goal at this time.

I will leave that goal for others who are weak minded and unable to think for themselves who will allow others to do their thinking for them.

Anyone who thinks I am crazy and/or stupid for being late is a person with little or no intelligence. A person in this category will usually use emotion first, and then justify it with logic. It is this type that may say something like you gotta do whatcha do or you have to do as you're told. They would usually say something like this because of their inability to get a better job in the first place, or the lack of confidence to start their own company, so they MUST do everything in their power and hold on to the job they currently have.

Being Productive is NOT about showing up at work at 9am, doing a "lot of work" and leaving at 5pm, although 99.99% of the world think it is.

A person CAN work for 5 minutes a day and yet be MORE productive than a person who works 12 hours a day.

Productivity is based on WHAT exactly is being done in a day, the QUALITY, ACCURACY & SPEED of the work,

EXAMPLE
ACME Mattress Company ABC has two salespeople.

EMPLOYEE A & EMPLOYEE B

The Goal for both employees in a day is to get as many sales as possible.

Employee A prints 1,000 flyers and stands outside and hand delivers the flyers for 10 hours until he/she has no more flyers.

Employee B sits takes a 2-hour lunch break. Talks on his cell phone for 1 hour. Then within 15 minutes, typed a sales letter and sends it via email to 1 million people in the company's customer list, then goes to sleep for the rest of the day.

With a 1% response rate from the marketing efforts of both employees, EMPLOYEE B would have made 10,000 sales for 15 minutes of work while EMPLOYEE A would have made 100 sales for 10 hours of work.

In today's world where managers heads are in places where they shouldn't be, Employee B would be fired in 1 day for slacking off on the job even though he is more productive than Employee A & Employee A would be considered a Very Hard Worker

Fortunately for me, I know better than to live at the mercy of an employer. I've been moonlighting in my own businesses for the past 10 months. I went full time the same day I left Accountemps; July 1st 2008. (My very own independence day)

By 2010, not only will I be a multimillionaire, but also I will be able to CREATE jobs.

How Hard Is It?

You work at a temp job two times a week. You're late TWO days in a row. I mean how hard is it to arrive on time. They're paying for someone to arrive at TEN. You couldn't or wouldn't, so they requested someone else who could. And that's THEIR problem? Why are they stupid, nitpicking and don't have the ability to "see the big picture"? Cause they wouldn't allow you to show up when you wanted? It's their dime. They can hire and fire whoever they want to. Are you still employed by accountemps or did they can you too?

Years ago, when My Mother was dying, I needed someone to help around my shop. A customer who knew my situation told me her daughter was looking for parttime work, so I hired her. She never arrived on time. One day her mother is at my shop at 10am when I open and asks where here daughter is. I tell her she arrives when she wants to. A few minutes later her daughter walks in and her mother goes off on her. The mother asks why she doesn't get here on time. She tells her mother. "Then he'll expect". Typical of most of today's younger workers. THAT'S WHY I don't have employees.

Managed a store with eigth employees. Spent most of my time dealing with their problems. Got tired of that years ago and opened up my ownshop where I don't have to deal with all that crap. My Dad and wife work for me parttime. Just think. IF you HAD showed up on time, you'd still have the job.
