Circle k Conoco/Phillips not only does not care about its employee's saftey, treatment, and pay. It also does not care about customer's saftey, and health. The $$ means lots more. Mainly the corporatly owned stores such as the one I work in.

I have worked for Phillips for a year now and can say its scary when I think of the things I have seen done, heard by management, required to do, and been put through. I have a hard time sleeping at nights from the stress and guilt.

First off we will start with customers and food quality. for the past year and longer we have offered hot food to our customers from a deli (now closed by the health department) or a hotdog roller program. Well guess its safe to say outdated food and bread, meats, veggies top the menu. I have complained many of times of the out dated, and molded food products we are supposted to sell. Managements reaction "just leave it I dont have time to deal with it", "toss out the moldy ones the rest are fine".

The people preping the food is required to wear gloves and hairnets, however the deli manager and would not or do not wear them even with open sores on her hands and arms, nor would she wash her hands. She would scratch her rearend, sores, nose or what have you and then make the food. And allow the food to sit out in warms for 6-8 hours or longer, and cold food for a week or so.

Our electrical is another major issue of concern for employees and customers alike, unprotected live electrical wire from where street lights once stood on the property, broken outlets throughout the building inside and out, and overloaded electrical panels (I used to be an electrican) that get very hot, with gasoline samples and plastic "customer use" gas cans sitting on them.

As an employee this location is also very dangerous, no back belts, high voltage outlets next to water sources. Exit signs do not light up, bottles of cleaners with no labels and no idea what they are. no gloves for cleaning areas like the bathroom, or picking up the semi driver's urine bottles, which we are required to do however, I refuse.

The canapys above the pumps are so damaged any wind over 10 mph or so will cause pieces or sections to fall off, I have seen several times almost hitting customers or other employees. Emergency shut off for the pumps does not work.

With pay its starts off at $8.00 per hour, not enought to live from, however there is 2 employees that are paid under that amount($7.50), the division manager says "tough".

After filing a complaint about the treatment, sexual misconduct, and behaviors by the managment staff, and the safety issues, I was told by the manager "You better shut your mouth or I will take you outside and kick your a**", I was also told by upper management "just do your job and deal with it or you will not have one", and with the safety issue "it will cost to much don't push it".

Iowa as many states does not have extensive laws protecting employees from employer abuses. However, the employees have gathered together, and are all standing up for our rights and ethical right, safety in numbers. Unfortunately I have been choosen has the employee speaker so now the company is coming down on me hard. But OSHA and few other agencies are helping us with the battle now.
