I had made a phone call to Don-a-Mow to get a price on cleaning my gutters and pressure washing my house. He told me $350.00 and I agreed. He sent an employee here last night to estimate the house, and the owner, Don called me back and raised the price $100.00. Since I had already taken the day off, I reluctantly agreed. They come here this morning and want to raise the price again because I have gutter guards on my gutters, a fact that I pointed out the estimator who did not share that information with his boss. Communication problems within your company are not my problem. When I explained this to them, they started packing up their ladders. Integrity, customer respect etc. do not exist with this company as they did not honor their original estimate or their modified estimate. NEVER use this company, ever! Please share if you live in King George, VA.

That fact of the matter was I told you to come see the house first, and in response to that you sent your employee. After he reported back to you, you called me to raise the price. This was previously stated. Then when you showed up, you were here for an hour before you knocked on my door to raise the price again, that is a bait and switch by definition. Your response was that your employee did not tell you of the gutter screens which I pointed out to him. I told you that a failure in communication within your company is not my problem. Don't think that I did not already see your employee loading up ladders before you even got a response from me on the 2nd price change. It was obvious that you were not going to honor either price,  which I deem an integrity issue. I too am a small businessman with several businesses,  and I honor prices offered by my employees to protect my reputation and integrity, something you should consider in the future. I did raise my voice to you in the yard and confronted your employee because you failed to do so, to get the truth out in your presence. I lost an entire day of work wasting time with you and will have to do so again with a reputable contractor. I looked you up on the Internet after this fiasco, something I should have done before hiring you, and you have no Web presence at all. Well now you do!

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company

its called an estimate for a reason.

AUTHOR: kelly - ()

POSTED: Thursday, June 05, 2014

I have been in business for four years in King George. I have pages of great references Ive been doing work for for years. It is called an estimate for a reason. I do not understand how this even can effect my reputation or my work ethic since no work or services were exchanged for any price. I didnt do any work for this complaintant. I simply gave him a fair estimate he didnt want to hear.  Had he of acted in a more appropriate manor I may have been able to work with him more on the price. But when he started screaming and yelling at my employees in his yard we packed up and left.  And I asked him what day was the best day for my to come and look at the job.NO Services were performed for this person and he didnt pay anything to be given an estimate. So theres no way this could be considered a ripp off. Sometimes people are impatient and would like to get an idea of what the price may be over the phone and we try to accomidate customers as much as we can although we make it clear that any price given over the phone is an estimate. You cant make precise payment arrangements untill you actually see the job. This customer was provided a range he may expect to pay. But as the job did not only entail cleaning gutters and power washing his entire house , there were also gutter guards around the entire house which needed to each by hand be taken down cleaned out and then replaced. It was a whole nother additional job entirely which he did not inform me of over the phone. A company installing gutter guards  would charge at least five hundred to eight hundred dollars. I thought it was more than fair to charge an additional hundred dollars to do that portion of the job. The edtimate does not become the set upon price untill it is agreed upon by both parties at start of the job or in a written contract. Neither of which had  occured . And a bait and switch is when someone hooks you with a cheaper price knowing all along they are going to charge you far more. Their was nothing but good intentions when speaking with this customer about the price of the job. He simply did not want to pay a fair price for how much work he wanted done. Feel free to give me a call for an honest price or for any references you may want to inquire with about my actual services and or work ethic. Im sure you will be pleased.
