When my family moved from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin, we chose Don Farr Moving & Storage to move our stuff to the new place. I'll spare you the typical rant on the unprofessional nature of the movers themselves, and get right to the damage to my goods.

When my stuff arrived, my TV was broken. My wood entertainment center was broken. An antique dish was broken, despite the fact it was well packed with bubble wrap in a box with other dishes. And not just broken, it was smashed into so many little pieces we have no idea what dish it even was. Other little things we cared less about were broken as well: a piggy bank, a big plastic tub with lid that we used for our daughter's toys actually had a huge hole ripped in the lid as if something very heavy was placed on it and tore through.

We filed an insurance claim with them over the first three items, the ones that were actually costing us serious money. They told us it would take up to 6 months to handle the claim. Well, during that 6 months the dodged phone calls, played games with us. At one point, they told us the person we wanted to talk to would be in the office soon and to call back. No one answered the phone there the rest of the day.

After 6 months, they finally sent us a letter saying that we failed to prove that any of the damage was their fault. In fact, their letter stated that they could not be held responsible for anything we personally packed in boxes, no matter how well we packed it. They said since the TV had no signs out outward damage, it was not their fault. TVs just break during moves. And they said the entertainment center's damage was not their responsibility because that was waived in the contract we signed because it is made of pressed wood. They also said that since we did not give them proof of damaged boxes (something they never told us about during our many attempts to communicate with them), there was no proof that they personally damaged anything at all.

Now, they could have told us all that stuff right away. It doesn't take 6 months to make those kinds of decisions. THey purposely dragged it out to that any physical evidence we would have would long since be gone.

Simply put, if you plan to use their moving company, you better not ship your TVs, computers, or anything else eletronic with them. I have written documentation saying they refuse to cover damages to that stuff because they often "fail for no apparent reason." Don't expect your entertainment center or other pressed wood furniture to survive, or be reimbursed if it doesn't. And for god's sake, don't pack anything in a box yourself because apparently, that voids all liability.

Unless you're a fool-don't get a job at Hindman's Moving and storage

To all the people that got screwed over by getting ripped off by this company, my apologies and sincerity go out to you. My case is soley based on the facts that at Hindman's in Butler, pa, there are alot of good workers, who have been there for years but instead of them getting more work or more hours they are being screwed by one main person that has the control of doing the scheduling. In fact, numerous requests have been made by customers for named crew members to be on the specified jobs, and the requests do not get filled the ways that they should.. Instead of working the ones that have years of experience or training more, they are working the rookies and totally forget about the vets. They could even work the vets with the rookies, but for some reason they choose not too. With the econmy being in a recessionn right now, nobody needs to be without a decent job. You need money to pay your bills and without it you get nowhere.. ASK YOURSELF, WHY ARE THEY STILL A RUNNING COMPANY. Let the truth be told.....

At Don Farr/Hindman Moving we realize that moving day can be a hectic time. There is a lot of issues to cover so that it can be a smooth transition, therefore, it has always been this company's policy to give as much information to the consumer as possible.

We perform a pre-move survey with the consumer to discuss all of their question and concerns and options along with the company's responsibilities. It is unfortunate, however, any time that furniture and items are moved regardless of how far they are always susteptable to damages. the carrier is not responsible for items constructed of pressed wood (this is discussed in the pre-move and a form is signed at loading)

As far as mechanical items such as televisions, stereo's etc., items such as these fail for no apparent reason. No carrier is responsible for internal malfunctions where no external damages are visible.

It is not the movers responsibility to go through the residence to confirm that these items work. These items malfunction due to the simple vibration of the moving van, it could happen to someone moving themselves.

As far as packed items are concerned, the carrier is in fact responsible for items that are packed by the consumer again, if there is external damage to the box, where there is no external damage to the box it would deem that either there was not enough protection/paper in the box or the item may have been broken prior to packing.

It is our suggestion to read carefully and make the necessary notes in regards to the relocation in order to become an educated consumer.
