Freedom Boat Club allows members to sell/transfer their remaining membership to others. I went on April 9, 2008 to transfer my remaining membership to an interested individual. I met at Freedom Boat Club with Christian Smith and individual that was buying the membership from me. The way it supposedly works, to protect the member (me), they collect the funds at the moment of transfer and when the funds clear they send you the check for the amount of your sale. There lies the problem, they (freedom boat club) accepted the payment from the new member, which he paid by credit card (clears in 48 hours), and I was promised by Christian Smith that the funds would be sent within the week.
After 1 1/2 months of email after email and call after call, I get no response from Christian Smith and Don Otis has ceased writing emails as he has no idea what other excuse to say due to their negligence. I had to personally call their accounting company and ask what the status was, and the hold up seems to be with not getting the authorization to release the check from the higher beings (Allen) at Freedom Boat Club HQ. I even went as far as confirming with the new member (transferred member) that purchased my membership and he is using the boats at the boat club, therefore this is a fully executed contract/transfer.
I would like Freedom Boat Club to pay the amount specified on our contract for transfer for the amount of $7,705 which is clearly owed to me. I believe what they are doing now is giving me the run around while hoping to stay with the money in hopes that I forget. Unfortunately, I am not one of those individuals that ceases to forget amount my due funds. A contract is a contract and they have to oblige my it. If not I will have my lawyer handle the situation and get the funds eventually owed.

Here is an email Don Otis wrote after I received my funds:
"Although our process took longer than it should, we did honor our end of the contract.
As I mentioned, we had only been here for a very short period of time, and this was the first transfer we had handled and I admit we did not handle it well, these require constant attention and we are not staffed to handle the follow up.
So you know, your transfer was the first and last we handled. Any paperwork and monies are handled strictly between Seller and Buyer.
I would appreciate it if you would let me know when this is removed.
Regards,
Don"
