I have been a long-term customer of Ecampus. Last summer, I had an issue in which their freight carrier failed to deliver my textbook rentals back to the company in a timely fashion. The freight carrier admitted all wrong-doing. I had to fight Ecampus over $300 fee that I was assessed over the late return of the books. In the end, with the Better Business Bureau’s help, I was able to resolve the issue. I decided to give Ecampus another chance to retain my business. Now, fast forward a year later I am in an almost identical predicament with this company. I rented several books with Ecampus around late February and I mailed them back towards the ending of May via a UPS dropbox. The books were ultimately due on July 23rd. I logged into my bank account and I saw I was illegally charged $200 for these books this week. I was very baffled and Ecampus told me they never received the books. After going back and forth with Ecampus, I called UPS and spoke with several managers. UPS first claimed the books were delivered to vendor but was refused acceptance, but that ended up being the wrong shipment. After further examination with their help, we determined that the shipping label was damaged and remained quarantined in one of their central hub locations.  The item was never ultimately entered into their system. I asked them to send the books directly to Ecampus but they wanted to charge me a fee, so I asked them to return the books to me and I will send the books to Ecampus myself. Ecampus accused me of lying about ever sending out the books and refuse to return my money. Ultimately, they offered to return 50% of my money, but this is a situation beyond my control and the books remain in Ecampus’ agent’s custody.

According to Florida law, my liability for transactions end, once the item is the merchant's freight carrier's possession. The customer service was rude and refused to call their freight carrier to investigate this. I am left with no books, over $200 charged on my account unauthorized. I read online this is normal standard operating procedure and that books rented in the summer are obsolete upon return, due to new editions being printed, and that this company will try to find any reason to recoup the purchase price upon becoming obsolete. At first, I thought that was far-fetched; not anymore, it seems like that's exactly what they are doing to me. I can provide all documentation, including affidavits proving that the books were returned in time. I am absolutely appalled about this situation. I have been a long-term customer with this company. I am hoping for a resolution, before legal options are exercised. Based off my preliminary research, it seems like this issue is a recurring one and this company has a track record for committing these illegal acts. The first time was a coincidence, the second time is a pattern.

Thanks for your time.
