First Issue: when my friend and I initially signed our contracts the manager Ralph told us that he would give us a break if week signed a 52 week contract for Personal Training. He said he would waive our monthly membership fee. When I checked my bank account I was charged for both membership and personal training. I went to speak with Ralph and he denied ever telling my friend and I that he waived our monthly membership fee. I called the suppose to be corporate office in which the representative very rudely told me over and over that I signed a contract for both and if i wanted to review it she would review it with me. She also told me that Ralph did not tell me he would waive the membership fee. I asked her how would you know you werent there. She rude stated again that she had a signed contract and that was all she neede. I felt as if ther wasnt anything to do but pay.
Second issue: I have a medical condition that I informed Ralph of LA fitness about before signing the contract. A few months later my Physician told me due to my medical needs I can no longer participate in personal training activities as well as some personal activities of my own. I read my LA fitness contract on cancellations, called the "corporate office" again, spoke to a female representative who told me to get the proper paperwork from the actual gym that I'm a member of and mail that with the letter from the doctor certified mail to LA FITNESS. She also told me it would take seven days from delivery date to process my personal training cancellation request and that I would recieve an email saying that the cancellation has been processed. On the seventh day I called LA FITNESS corporate office and spoke to a male representative who told me that my request had not been processed and it takes seven to ten days to process and send the email concerning the cancellation. He told me to call back on thursday. I called back on thursday and spoke to a male representative and told him I was calling because I did not recieve my email regarding my cancellation of my personal training contract. The guy read the notes on the account and told me "well we did recieve it on July 1st but it takes 30 DAYS to process once we recieve it. I told the rep NO SIR that is not correct I've called 3 times, first I was told seven days, then I was told seven to ten daysand now you're saying 30 days NO SIR that is not what my contract says! The rep asked if I had my contract, I responed yes and it doesn't say anything about thirty day wait. The rep put me on hold, then came back and said Ma'am I dont want to argue with you, your request is in processing and once we receive our funds and your cancellation is approved then we will send you a refund. I replied that my contract does not state a specific processing period once LA FITNESS received my cancellation request due to medical reasons. I stated that I did everything I was instructed to do by the first rep and by the contract agreement. I continued to say to the rep that I called LA FITNESS once I was informed by my physician, got the proper documentation, mailed it certified and followed up with a phone call to LA FITNESS. The rep said to me Miss I'm not gonna argue with you, once your request is processed we will contact and refund funds if necessary. I told the rep that I was trying to be cordial but I will just cancell my Check card and they wont recieve any money!
This place is a ripoff, the BBB should really get involved and investigate the business practices of LA FITNESS. As consumers we depend on the BBB and other agencies to protect us from fradulent and Ripoff buisness practices. Consumers are cornered by LA FITNESS because LA FITNESS has the contract and all of the consumers information, they can damage the consumers credit worthiness by submitting bogus claims to the credit bureau's. Who's gonna protect consumers like me that medically can not participate in personal training and took all the required steps to cancel the personal training contract as per the contract itself. Who protects us when we've taken all the required measures to cancel the contract and yet LA FITNESS is sending our contracts to collection agencies as well as reporting to the credit bureau's that we are in debt to LA FITNESS therefore deminishing our credit worthiness.
