I paid Lake Ridge Kennels for a bassett hound puppy. When it came time for us to pick up the puppy, we called her to let her know we were coming. She stated that the puppy was sick and that we would receive a refund in thirty days. When thirty days expired, she refused to refund our money. She finds this funny and is extremely rude. She is an unethical breeder and I am concerned that she is taking advantage of others in the same way.

The person who has responded to the original complaint by "Tammy", is a hoax. Funny enough, "Ben" even claimed the same thing on This url of ripoff.com

What people do not know is that "Ben" and "Robert" and "Disgusted in Orlando" and any other pretend person or fake user name that makes supposed complaints toward my business, Lake Ridge Kennel and/or me as a person, Dee Gerrish, is none other than Sandra Johnson, Karyn Kelly, Charlotte Estes and Cheryl Rogers along with their posse of friends and family entourage. These people are estranged family members with an internal ax to grind which I've already discussed on the above link provided in this rebuttal. I ask anyone who feels they have been "wronged" by me as a person or my business, Lake Ridge Kennel to provide to us valid, legal, supporting documentation to back up the complaint or claim otherwise, stop posting comments or embellished untruthful stories. We've not wronged anyone or done anything wrong to anyone since being in business and we've been in business since 1996. We have not harassed, threatened, defrauded anyone at any time. By all means, we welcome anyone who feels we've "wronged" them in any way to bring forth their complaint to North Carolina, through legal channels so we can get to the bottom of the supposed issue.

Dee Gerrish is extremely rude, unethical, and just downright mean.

she uses hateful slurs in e-mails, calling customers names like "Retarded", and accusing them of being on drugs. The use of derogatory terms in e-mails is very immature, showing that she should not be a dog breeder.

She calls anybody who speaks out against her an "Estranged relative trying to ruin her business" in blogs.

Tammy's claim against Dee Gerrish

I am the person a woman named Tammy has written about claiming that she bought a Basset Hound puppy from me...that it was sick and that she was not provided with a refund. Also about her claims that I am an unethical breeder.

First of all, Tammy DID get a refund. She paid through paypal and the reason she had to wait for her refund is because she paid with a credit card and paypal has to issue the refund. The refund did NOT come from us. It came from paypal via a chargeback to her credit card. Tammy knows full well that she was refunded her money.

Secondly, Tammy wanted to pick up a Basset Hound puppy that we had held for her with her credit card deposit via paypal and wanted to pick up the puppy during an already planned trip to my area while she was visiting family. The puppy had contracted a runny nose due to its puppy vaccines and we wanted to make sure the puppy WAS NOT sick before she picked it up. If we suspect a puppy has a cough or runny nose or may be catching a cold, we will NOT let it leave. That is NOT what an ethical breeder does, of which we ARE.

Tammy was asked to wait at least 11-14 days so that we could ensure her puppy was NOT catching something more severe like parvo. Her pup was placed on antibiotics for ten days and we did not want the puppy to leave until we knew for sure the pup would be fine. Tammy had an issue with the pick up date because that would mean she'd have to make a second trip to our area and she did not want to do that.

Tammy was also aware that all deposits are non refundable and our canine application clearly states that we do not provide refunds on any deposits. WE offered to ship the puppy to Tammy after the 10-14 days passed and after we were sure the pup was fine, but Tammy instead did a "chargeback" on her credit card. Paypal did refund her but they do not provide a refund immediately. There is a process their company goes through before giving a refund to their customer.

I would like to comment on Tammy's claim that we are an unethical breeder! Had I been an unethical breeder, I would NOT have told Tammy that we wanted to wait before letting the puppy go and we would have just let her picked up the puppy and not cared. The fact of the matter is, we take good care of our puppies and DO care where they go and when they go.

We have never allowed a puppy to leave us if we suspect it may be catching a cold or coming down with something. Instead, we immediately place a hold on a puppy and wait until we know it is able to leave in a healthy manner or provide a different puppy if one is available.

In Tammy's case, we did NOT have another Basset Hound puppy in the same gender or color and we were not able to provide a different puppy, which is why she would have to wait to obtain it. The puppy, by the way, was fine and was resold to someone else and the puppy, to this day, is doing terrific.

I find it hard to understand why Tammy would come to this website to post a claim that is not true and is completely without merit. We do have proof through paypal that she was refunded the deposit she paid through her credit card.
I am very fortunate to have discovered this posting because I was not aware that this woman had come into this website to make an untrue claim. It is quite unfortunate that this website allows people to make claims against others without any legal documentation to back up their claim and comments.

People like Tammy do this as a way to ruin someone's reputation and make malicious comments knowing the comments are not true. Tammy's claim is not true and is without merit. We have been a private, professional, reputable breeder for 11+ years. We are certified, approved and registered and have had many, many, successful canine placements in our 11 years of doing business.

We DO NOT provide refunds to anyone for any reason because payments accepted pay for the care of the puppies sold. We DO provide a replacement puppy should and if anything occurs before someone is able to receive their purchased puppy.

We have never taken anyone's payment and NOT provide them with a puppy. Animals are live beings and they can catch a cold or become ill suddenly and without warning just like humans. Had Tammy's puppy NOT had a runny nose or cold like symptoms at the time she was wanting to pick it up (she was coinciding an out of state family visit with picking up a puppy), she would have left our area with her puppy and all would have been fine.

As such, there was no way we were going to let one of our puppies leave our home with cold like symptoms. I think the fact that we were cautious and did NOT let her take home a puppy we suspected had cold like symptoms (which puppies sometimes get from their puppy vaccines) and had asked her to wait a few extra days before picking up the puppy is very responsible and ethical!

Tammy was not willing to wait the extra days that we had asked for; she was not willing to make a trip to our home when we felt the pup would be ready to go and she was not willing to pay for shipping. She got her refund from her credit card company and paypal. Our rebuttal is true and we do have factual evidence to back up our rebuttal. Tammy's claim is NOT valid or true.
