Liberty Group Services - New Credit Financial Alternative ripoff scam hoax Didn't allow me to cancel my enrollment Madeira Beach Florida

DON'T FALL VICTIM TO THIS SCAM -- LGS called me at work and asked me to sign up for a $2500 limit catalog purchasing credit card. They required a $300 Electronic Funds Transfer from my checking account which is non-cash refundable. They said they would give you 4-$100 certificates in place of the deposit which could used to pay towards the credit card balance each month. I set up a EFT date of 11/19/2004 for the $300 deposit.

I had about 1 month before that date to deliberate whether I really wanted the card or not and decided that I did not. I called the customer service number (727)289-0288 and asked the representative to cancel my enrollment.

He informed me that I needed to give a 72 hour notice in order for any action to be canceled. I told him that I was not informed of that during my intial conversation with Dustin (Rep #652). He also mentioned that I would not be able to change anything on the account until December 1, 2004 because LGS needed 10-14 days to determine the outcome of the transaction. This lit the lightbulb in my ingnorant, and slow mind right away.

I looked up LGS by their main office phone number, (727)799-2367, on the internet and discovered that they had been reported as a scam group for credit card services. I also looked them up on the Better Business Bureau (NOTE: Liberty Group Services only shows up on their search engine if you search by the phone number (727)289-0290). The BBB had around 150 complaints filed against this company and 132 of those were within the last 12 months.

I called my bank and canceled my account in order to assure that LGS would not debit my account. Fortunately I had a few synapses fire in my brain before I really did fall victim to this fraudulous act. I was probably one of the few lucky ones that did not get hurt by such a scam.

I have included all information I could obtain about this business in hopes that someone will notice this company and its bad rap before they fall victim.

Who knows how many other phone numbers or addresses this scam has but I would recommend that if ANY credit card offer (other than those offered by you bank and IN you bank) involves any sort of pre-paid deposit that you just SHRED it and toss it. Or you can send them a nasty gram and tell them that they are the scum of the Earth and that you are praying every day that their kind are sought out and dealt with by the proper authorities.

If you've fallen victim LGS then contact your bank IMMEDIATELY and cancel your account and request your bank to refund the charge to you because of its fraudulent nature. If you have a good bank they will cooperate with you. DO NOT DELAY - I was fortunate that LGS was actually going to wait until 11/19/2004 to withdrawal the $300. They had an entire month to take money out before that, so I can only thank God that they didn't. Don't make the same mistake that almost cost me $300 of my hard-earned money. Take action against these low-life scum.
