I work for the 3rd and Howard McDonalds in downtown Spokane.

On July 3rd of 2008, I called the local jail to ask if work release people could leave company premises on breaks. They said only if the client calls in and reports their destination and asked who I was referring to. I told them that I was just looking for information regarding the accountability of the program for my wife and my safety. I can't understand why if someone is incarcerated why they would be allowed to gallavant around town while on break from work in someone's car.

Well, needless to say, it came back to bite me the next night at work. A person whom is in the program came up to me and started telling me in short that this was not cool that I made a call and that he would mess me up bad if I ever did it again. I looked for my manager as I was terrified. She was outside on her cell phone smoking a cigarette. Here it is midnight, I'm being threatened, and my manager is outside. Well, I told her about it and she said to calm down. She did nothing about the matter, and the man starting getting more and more irritated over the next hour. After threatening me again, I called my spouse and my spouse called the house and told them what was going on.

We received a call from the house asking to speak to my co-worker. He got real mad. My manager witnessed this event first hand. A few minutes later, I got a call on my phone from the police asking what was going on there and said they were sending someone over. I testified to the police what was happening and they were very rude and said that my manager claimed they never saw any of it and furthermore that it never happened.

Immediately following, I was escorted from my job site by the police and told to go home for my own safety. I went home and my spouse called the store supervisor to explain what happened. He got really angry and said that this was not true and by calling the police without reasonable evidence was trying to cause problems for the store. Furthermore, he proceeded to threaten prosecution to my spouse and I for involving a 3rd party.

This happened on camera both times, but I am still being intimidated on the job and don't know what to do. I am a homeowner, and can't lose my job in such an unstable economy but don't have money for a lawyer either and am now very scared. My managers have told me that the supervisor has given specific instructions not to talk to me regarding this matter.

I am so confused. I was just trying to protect myself. A very similar situation happened last year at a McD in Virginia with a work release worker assaulting a man with cerebral palsy.

I have Asperger's Syndrome, which is a form of high-functioning autism and my supervisor(mentioned above) said not to tell him that I am disabled, I work just fine. I have a psychiatrist report filed and am a rehire at this store. Please just be careful when taking your kids to a McD or when going into a bathroom there or going there after dark. Almost everybody at this store is currently in the work release program or was hired while in the program. It is NOT a corporate store. It IS a franchise.

Does anybody have any ideas for how I could fight this?

I agree that you should get ahold of your HR department. If you are too worried to ask your manager for the number, i'm sure that even though it is designed for customer complaints the people at the 1-800-244-6227 would be happy to help you get the number for the right people.

No one is being ripped off

First off, this has nothing to do with someone being ripped off. Secondly, what do you care what people are doing on thier break? Thirdly, if everyone is siding with the con- obviously this is not the whole story- you might want to find a new job if people trust a work release prisoner over you.

And to the third rebuttal, why would you say those things- perhaps you should be in a work release program.

Most McDonald's Resteruants are franchised through McOpCo which means you would have a local HR office. Explain to them whats going on, then chances are they will preform a security audit. and view the cameras. If they discover that your manager was lying, then chaces are she will be dismissed.

Hey freak,

The complaintant was concerned for her safety and the safety of others. This work release f*g may have been a chomo or a rapist. He left to rape some 98yr old lady and thats ok to you? You are very ignorant. I have a baby and he may have been breaking into my house to rape and kill my infant and your not concerned. Nancy, maybe next time you will keep your mouth shut and not get involved in something you have nothing to do with.

YOU started the whole thing by making that first phone call. Since you were not the manager and the work release person was not bothering YOU it was not your place to call the jail. Mind your own business. You don't even know what he was on work relesaee from. I don't think that they would allow a violent person out on work release. I think you just need to chill out and mind your own business.

How are they getting work release cons so late at night?

I know in this state, work release is strictly 7am-3 or 5 pm. NEVER at night, much less that late at night. And the workers here are NOT allow to meander from the business. Work release cons out at midnight is just asking for trouble.
