I was an employee with NFI for about seven months. As a truck driver for them I was paid by the mileage I drove for them making deliveries. The problem being that they use "computer mileage" instead of actual driven mileage and over the period of seven months I was "short changed" of about $5000 in income.

Of course they denied this, but after contacting the Department of labor, State of NJ, I have decided to file a formal compaint against NFI for due monies. In emails from a Chief of Claims in Trenton, Nj I was told irregardless of what the computer says i should be paid what I worked.

I am one of only hundreds of former drivers who worked for NFI and got ripped off, and of course they will fight this tooth and nail, otherwise if it ever became a Class Action Suit, it would cost them millions of dollars over the last 30 years or so.

driven miles

AUTHOR: dragracer - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, April 23, 2012

Worked for Penske Logistics at a couple of different accounts and was always paid actual driven miles. That was a while ago and don't know if that has changed. I was paid actual riven miles, and the customer was charged for the actual driven miles, NFI has a history of ripping their drivers off. With all of the tracking electronics in their tractors, they know exactly how many miles the driver drives but continue to pay computer miles based on PC Miler. My GF worked at PC Miler for 2 years and contends that the PC Miler miles aren't accurate anymore. NFI pays drivers based on that mileage, but are free to charge the customer actual driven miles. If they charge the customer PC Miler miles, they too are losing money. Been with NFI for 3 years and they would never let that happen. My hope is that I only have to stay here until Obama is defeated this November, and the economy starts to turn around. All the games that NFI payroll plays with the driver's checks will come back to bite them. My hope is that once the economy turns around, there will be a mass exodus of drivers leaving NFI. Anyone that quits NFI, will get a negative mark on their DAC report.  Threaten NFI with a lawsuit and they will change the negative entry. May also have to threaten them to get whatever money they owe you after leaving.

I would like to get a group of former drivers and current drivers from NFI locations from different states for the purpose of possibly filing a lawsuit in Federal Court regarding NFI's illegal payroll practices nationwide. It would have to be a group large enough for it to be worthwhile for an attorney to get involved.

thats is the industry standard

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

hi william i do not know how many truck driving jobs you have had BUT what you are describing against nfi is an industry wide standard i work for a very large carrier and some times my dispatched milage is off as much as 30 to 40 miles BUT some times i beat paid milage by 10 miles please sir IF you find any company that offers hub milage which is the exact milage driven please contact me i will move to the ends of the earth for that job it does not exist because if every company paid hub milage you would have drivers going way out of route to bump there pay thats why companies pay household mover guide miles it is calculated zip code to zip code hope this helps you feel better

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Agreed, there are many more accurate ways to calculate the mileage between two places.

The typical standard is household miles, or PC Miler practical miles. But, depending on which they use, the actual mileage can be five to ten percent more.

For a driver, that can mean losing 150 miles on a trip between California and Texas. Some truck owners receive a dollar a mile. That means they are $150 short.

Who can afford to give away $100 or so every 3 days?

This is all part of the reason that people aren't willing to drive trucks. For a truck owner, there are a lot of expenses they have to pay. Even for a plain old driver, they still have to give up a lot to do the job. You're away from home for weeks at a time.

I don't mind if the fleets use a mileage standard. But they need to use one that is accurate. With today's computer mapping technology, and the GPS units available, there is no excuse for wrong numbers.

I used a Delorme map package on my laptop. The thing was accurate down to 10 feet. I can live with losing on 10 feet. I can't put up with losing 50 miles.
