I got a phone call from someone named Ali who said he was with the U.S. Government Grants Department and was offering me a $3,500 grant. I was trying to pay for a funeral at the time and figured I could use the money.

He got all my information, including my bank account, which I gave very reluctantly because I was suspicious of this. He said he would direct deposit the money - even after I told him I would prefer a check in the mail - and being in the financial pickle I was in at the time, I gave the account info.

I was aware of the $29.95 charge, which again, if I wasn't in a moment of weakness, I would have never accepted. Indeed, within a couple of days, that was taken out of my account.

I had not heard anything for a week, so I got the company's phone number from my bank statement and called them. They said they do not give out grants, but never expressed alarm or shock that someone was indeed telling people they do. I asked to cancel my enrollment in the program and they said I had to wait for a welcome package to arrive in the mail before I could.

Well, the envelope arrived in the mail two weeks later - it had been sent to the wrong address!! In the meantime, they charged my account $300 because I had not cancelled within seven days of receiving the package. I never even got the package until after my account was charged.

I called the toll-free number and demanded to cancel my enrollment and get a full refund. They canceled the enrollment - or so they said - but declined to give me a refund because they had already sent out the welcome package. The person on the line said that decision came down from the higher office, but he did not know the number of the higher office and could not -or would not - transfer me to someone in that office.

I am furious about this - at myself for falling for such a scam and at the company for misrepresenting itself. I see I am not the only one who has complaints against National Health Net Online. I also see where Blue in Birmingham wants to pursue a class-action suit against this company and I want in. Let's get these bastards!!
