Rose Banquet Hall
2717 Southwest 142nd Avenue
Miami, Florida 33165
(305) 226-2353

I was prompted to relay my recent experience with Rose Banquet Hall after having learned of others who had incidents comparable to mine. My brother performed a simple Google search and found some interesting information on www.ripoffreport.com (Report No. 254156) and www.bbb.com (Better Business Bureau) regarding the owner, Mr. Osvaldo Gonzalez, and the manner in which he does business.

I empathize with mothers and/or family members who have been taken advantage of by Mr. Gonzalez and his cohorts when only trying to coordinate memorable events for their loved ones. It's a disgrace that someone would deliberately cheat and deceive their clientele without regard to a young lady celebrating her Quinces or that of a young child celebrating their First Birthday, as was the case with my son.

In June of this year, I contacted Rose Banquet Hall with whom I ultimately coordinated my son's event. I regret that I did not conduct some research beforehand I could have avoided the headache altogether. It is truly saddening that businessmen conduct themselves in such poor taste. For this reason, I decided to come forward so that others do not make the same mistake I did.

And so, here is what happened

The Space

The space itself did not have adequate ventilation. It was a hot summer day in Miami and there was a lot of activity during set-up. For this reason alone, management should have been conscientious of the fact that guests would be arriving and set the A/C to a comfortable temperature. This was not the case, however, and it wasn't until later in the evening that it got cooler.

The table linens were cheap polyester, but that was the least of my concerns. I had to re-adjust every single linen because it seemed as though they'd been tossed without being draped correctly. In addition, small pieces of tape were left on every linen. There was no attention to detail. Meanwhile, the backdrop we had itemized in our contract had not been provided. A refund wasn't even offered.

No attention to detail and an obvious lack of experience.

The Staff

Where shall I begin? I paid an additional $100 for a Security Guard that served more as a cake cutter and tour guide than anything else. Rather than guard the entrance (as he was paid to do), he would escort complete strangers into the hall during my party. Naturally, this meant the front door was left unsecured effecting other strangers to walk in as they pleased.

To make matters worse, the Security Guard was responsible for cutting the cake I had purchased. Some guests received meringue as opposed to cake. And although the cake had three-tiers, he was serving everyone small slices. Recalling the event now and what transpired only confirms how bizarre everything was. Unbelievable. I would have been better off having the party at my home and hiring the staff myself.

The Bartender was none other than the Owner himself. Dressed in a dingy tee-shirt and jeans, he served my guests drinks while being short and making wise cracks. Eventually, no one wanted to approach the bar to ask for drinks because they didn't want to endure his attitude. If his ego as an Owner did not allow him to serve everyone as a Bartender, then he should have hired someone else to do the job.

At the very least he could have worn a pressed, white shirt and some black slacks.

Worse was the fact he had between 5 or 6 friends keeping him company throughout the party in the corner nearest the kitchen. It's inappropriate and unprofessional to have your friends observing your clients during an event that's been paid for. And to have strangers at a party with small children is even more of a concern a concern that one should not have when they've paid for the space and a Security Guard.

The DJ was TERRIBLE! He was a young man in his early twenties who had been in the United States for only a few years. He did not speak English and had no idea what different genres of music existed 80's, Freestyle, Hip Hop, Pop. No clue! My guests would even make suggestions of what to play, but he was dumbfounded. He was very nice, but unfortunately didn't deliver as promised.

To make matters worse, I had requested the services of a videographer to record the entire event. He was referred to me by the Owner himself. The day of the event (at the onset of the event), I was informed that he would not be coming. Mr. Gonzalez insisted that I never asked for the videographer, which was completely untrue. His sources just aren't capable, established people. They're very mom and pop.

The Food

I purchased beef franks and hot dogs in bulk from BJ's for a hot dog machine that I was contractually promised. My brother delivered these to Mr. Gonzalez himself who placed them in the kitchen for later. Not one of the children enjoyed a hot dog. What angered me even more was the fact that Mr. Gonzalez adamantly declared that the hot dog machine was there.

Lies. My brother taped the event and the machine is nowhere in the footage.

In addition, despite not having had a hot dog machine, the beef franks, hot dogs and buns were not returned to us. In fact, a large amount of food was left unaccounted for. It was supposedly safeguarded in the kitchen where apparently it disappeared. And although the cutlery was made available to my guests, we had a shortage of plates when I had purchased more than enough for everyone to eat with four times over.

The cotton candy machine was not functioning properly. The cotton candy was far from cotton-like. The crystals used in making the cotton candy were not spun. The end result was a pressed ball of sugar on a cone. It seemed that everything was going wrong and Mr. Gonzalez seemingly disregarded the entire situation. I was hoping that at the very least, the children would enjoy the piata.

Not at all.

Regardless of my having purchased four large, bulk bags of assorted candy, when the children tugged on the piata, only a fraction of the candy came out. If even one and a half bags were used, I would have been surprised. My husband and I were stunned there was barely enough candy to fill the children's bags. And yet again the spare candy was not returned to us. Who steals candy from a children's party?

Conclusion

I refuse to sit idly by as others are swindled by Rose Banquet Hall. They do not deliver on their promises even when bound by contract. This clear breach is unlawful. I will post my thoughts on every blog and/or website frequented by those seeking a Banquet Hall for their event. I will update these posts with links to new reports made against Rose Banquet Hall and Mr. Osvaldo Gonzalez.

Furthermore, I will file a complaint with the local branch of our Better Business Bureau who has two grievances already on file for Rose Banquet Hall. Others have had the same problem with their inability to perform according to their contract (to use the Better Business Bureau's verbiage). Ironically, they're using pictures taken at my event to sell theme parties to their prospective (and unsuspecting) clients.

Please give Rose Banquet Hall another chance

AUTHOR: Sweet1024 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 03, 2008

I made a party in May of 2008 and I concur with all of the comments made. But the reason I decided to write is that about a month ago, Mr. Osvaldo Gonzalez sold the place and a friend of mine recommended the new owners and I gave Rose Banquet Hall another chance. Two weeks ago I held a party there and the difference was astounding. These new owners are very professional; they did renovations to the place already and the service was great. I inquired about the owners and they have been in a parallel business for years and the experience shows. The economy is not good so please give the new owner of Rose Banquet Hall a chance.
