My story echoes the other reports against this so called non-profit company, SYN, Inc.
Young boy (Andrew Fisher) knocks on my door selling magazine subscriptions to raise points/money for a scholarship and trip abroad.
I'm a nice person and a new mom with lack of sleep for days. Asked about my profession, if the neighbors were nice, if I ever traveled to Rome, etc.
Idiotically, wrote check for $70, $1 cash. Now he has bank account number, routing number, and signature. Had epiphany about 15 minutes after he left. Called bank, reported fraud (my own fault), closed account, etc.
Anyone have any detailed knowledge of what the company attempts to do with the info? I am hoping my latter action of contacting the bank can stop any harm from my earlier, moronic action.

Evidence that this company is not a scam . . .
AUTHOR: Platinumbiscuits - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Monday, August 16, 2010
i bought a subscription from one of those door to door salesmen and
decided to cancel within the 3 day guideline on the back of the receipt
to get my check back. Less than a month after (today) i received my
check back in the mail with no money missing from my account. Disproving the original report.
You can't report fraud on a check until it's cashed, probably not at all if you wrote it out yourself, closing your bank account will only make your check bounce and cause you more fees in the process. I suspect the person of this report didn't cancel in the 3 day time frame and won't receive any magazines due to the check not clearing. The author of this report panicked before anything happened and didn't follow directions regarding refunds.
