Their $1,000.00 guarantee is a guarantee to rip you off from your hard earned wages. You will find that you have no recourse other than to file a small claims complaint in their county to recoup your money that they stole from you per their inflated so called "investment" in you to work for them. Yes, you do sign to be put on probation, but this is after you completed your training and are strapped for cash. You know you can do the job, you have all the confidence, but don't be fooled.

They are train ticket to hell, a 3-day stay at a flop house not fit for a dog, a once a day meal that is slop food, a medical exam that you will receive a bill for later, and whatever else they can tack on. Sharkey is charging me $1,800.00, and they are keeping 3 weeks of my pay checks.

If they get 4-5 people to finish their orientation, and they proceed to run for Sharkey, you can bet that their names are on a dart board for Bill Russell to either "hit or miss" so that the company pays zero to that poor driver and then further humiliates them after they tarnish their good name.

Do the math! 4 drivers a month @ $1,800. x 12 months (a year) = $86,400.00

This must be the end of the year bonus that Bill Russell and his cronies all feed on like scavengers - ripping off the drivers at the drivers own expense. But hey, it's corporate America on wheels. These people should be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for what they are doing to conscientious drivers and their families, however, they are scandalous enough to work around all that; and they know what they are doing.

This is the most horrible company to work for and for them to be licensed to do business in the State of Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, the Attorney General should be looking into their shady operation. Jack Sharkey is a Director on the Illinois Commerce Commission, which protects and provides avenues for businesses, it's just a wonder how many politicians he has in his pocket to pull this shenanigan off.

During my three short weeks they had pulled a bait & switch on me, a new employee, Sharkey made me out to be a criminal with no hard evidence; but only threats, kicking me out of the truck on the side of the road, otherwise I was driving stolen company property.

Swift, J B Hunt, Werner, Schneider may have their "attitudes", but at least they don't have their hand in your pocket and rob you without a gun like Sharkey.

This company has not heard the last from me - I WILL file a complaint in Adams ; County on my behalf; and maybe yours too.

Sharkey is a pretty good company

I have been a company driver with Sharkey for more than four and a half years.  I have had very few problems while working here and those problems were promptly taken care of when I notified the right person.  I haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting Jack Sharkey, but have frequent contact with Bill Russell and his staff.  They are pleasant for the most part and have always listened to my side of the story when there have been incidents.  Bill amazes me because he seems to know everyones name and takes time to talk to the drivers.

Pay wise, I have had only one complaint and it was fixed with one phone call.  I received my $1,800.00 bonus when I signed, incrementally over a few months, with no problems. I have been on guaranteed pay since I started and like it because I know what I'm getting every payday.  This helps me schedule mortgage and other monthly payments without wondering if I will have to rob Peter to pay Paul.  Its a good system if you can get on it, but expect to earn it. 

When I came onboard I told my fleet manager that I wasn't a truck stop cowboy and didn't like sitting around, I became a driver to "drive", and for the most part I have been kept moving with little sitting around time.  My fleet manager tries hard to get me home every weekend but sometimes it doesn't work out so I just have to look forward to the next weekend at home.  My fleet manager has always gotten me home on time for special family events, holidays I choose to spend at home, medical appointments, etc.

I only had problems with one fleet manager whose name starts with "D" (I won't give the name out but those who had to misforture to work under him will know who I mean and he isn't there anymore).  I get along well with most people but he and I just clashed at every turn so Mike Smith checked into the problem, met with me and put me with a new fleet manager within 30 days and I have been pretty happy since then.

Overall, Sharkey has been fair and straight with me and I really appreciate being a name to the higherups and not just a number to them.

If I have had any complaints with a trucking company since leaving the telecommunications/internet technology field, they will be against PTL.  They promised to pay my school and didn't ... I just finally paid it off (over $6,000.00), I paid a high premium for my health insurance but still had around $3,000.00 stuffed up my butt because they refused to pay for necessary/required medical treatments.  My milage pay went up to $ .33 per miles and then they cut all miles west of the Mississippi to $ .30 per mile for everyone.  Most of my miles were in the $ .30 per mile region, so I had to take a paycut.  I almost lost my house because I wasn't getting enough miles to pay mortgage, etc.  and on and on. 

So, I am happy where I am at Sharkey and plan to stay there until I retire, God willing.  Cry babies should apply elsewhere .... Oh .... do I really want them sharing the road with me in big rigs ... I think not because, in their unhappiness, they could pose a serious danger to myself and other drivers.  Cry babies need not apply.

By the way, report sites like this should really vet people before posting hateful, slanderous and possibly false information about companies and the people who manage and work for those companies.  Any idiot can get angry and write any drivel they want but they should really have to back up their rants with some kind of proof and the people running these kind of sites should check the information for accuracy and truthfullness before posting.

  First off:  I do not want to condone Jack or his staff for what they do because I have been around for along time in this business and others and was taught in the military to watch,observe and learn from young soldiers there weakness and strengths...

   That said, I want to say anyone who thinks they will get a fare shake from a business man is smoking crack....They did not get to where they are from changing diapers...

  You do not get to where jack is by having fun and parties, you get there by walking on people... THAT IS BUSINESS!!!!

  The staff he has hire are trained to be loving and nice until it is time to dump you when you become a liability via DOT or CUSTOMER makes no difference you are gone...

  Jack is no different than PTL, USA TRUCK or any other company including RBX that I have worked for....

  You are a soldier that is very expendable when it is convenient for them(ALL COMPANY'S INCLUDED!!!!!)

  Oh, for all including the educator and those who are faithful to jack that I don't care about, for your info I am sitting in cores lot on christmas day after calling the shop at 1700 it is now after midnight they said they would call me back about pulling me out after being stuck in  8" of snow... What a laugh that was...

  Of course I was suppose to be home christmas eve... except for that hot delivery for  smuckers up to cherokee,IA to HIVEY which they said could have what till after the storm but customer service and dispatch said it had to be there...

  To say the least I did not get home for Xmas...I am now sitting in Cores lot stuck in snow....And did anyone make an attempt to get me home....NO!!!

  Mr. educator....Have a long talk with the people that are nice and warm and at home...

  I do not have respect for people who forget there TROOPS!!!!!

HELL, LET COVER MAINTANCE TOO, "INCASE" ONE OF THESE WANNABE'S SAY SOMETHING..SHOPS A PRETTY GOOD SET OF BOYS, THEY GET BUSY AT TIMES, BUT 90% OF TIME YOUR IN AND OUT WITHIN A COUPLE OF HOURS.

BILL RUSSEL, AMAZES ME..........THAT MAN MEMORIZES EVERYONES NAME TO FACE, HE'S ALWAYS FRIENDY, SAYS HI TO YOU BY NAME........YA DONT GIT THAT IN ALOT OF COMPANYS. THE MAN HAS ALWAYS BEEN FAIR TO ME........I HAVE NEVER , I REPEAT NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THAT MAN.

I agree with everything the driver says. I was a driver for them for 17 years. Why so long you ask. have you ever heard the word blackballed blacklisted. All i have to say is your waisting your time trying to take them to court to get your money back been there done that. they stole from me also you would not believe the things I saw going on there the 17 years there. I am sure there customers would like to know the shady things they do to them. they would not have there customers long. everything about there buisiness is shady and I mean shadyyyy. those that think they know them and they are good people are either shady themselves or just haven't had the opportunity to be on the otherside of there dealings. I garruntee one day they will see the light. there just being used and don't know it yet. just my two cents from someone who has seen it all and then some in my dealings with them from 1991 to 2008 thank god I am free from them atlast. and still alive and kickin

the girl is telling the truth, i'm convinced il. is full of crooks.......they'll steal your $$$ anyway they can. i'm still with the co. been there 5 years, been charged fuel and tolls without warning, but its ok, i beleive in karma, time will tell.

Doesn't Belong at Sharkey Transportation

I am a Professional Truck Driver with more than eight (8) years experience. I have been an employee at Shippers Rental Inc. (i.e. Sharkey Transportation, Sisbro Tansportation, Core Transportation and J & M Transportation) for more than four (4) of those eight (8) years now. In that time, I have never been treated in any other than a professional and courteous manner. I have never been deceived, lied to or misled about anything at any time.

Almost all of the Drivers and Driver Managers are on a first name basis. Once they learn your name, you are no longer a number to them. If a Driver and a Driver Manager have a problem working together, as sometime personality conflicts do happen, a new Driver Manager is assigned. You are not forced to stay with someone you can't work well with.

Bill Russell and all the other members of the Safety Department are also on a first name basis with the drivers, and Bill's door is always open. He will answer any question you have, and if he doesn't have an answer, he'll either find one for you, or point you in the direction of someone who has.

All problems I have had with either payroll, safety, compliance, or equipment were, and always have been, addressed in a timely manner. Jack Sharkey, or Jack (he also is on a first name basis with his employees) has made it clear that if no one in the "Chain of Command" at the company can find a solution to your problem, to call him at home, no matter what time it is. If the problem can be resolved, a meeting will be scheduled with the necessary people to make a viable solution happen.

If this driver had all the problems he says he had, then he did not approach his problems in a professional manner, and probably only made it worse on himself by not doing to. Some people don't belong behind the wheel of a Big Truck, and this one obviously did not. STI is a Trucking Company, not a Nursery School.

I feel at home with this company and don't plan on leaving anytime soon.

I worked for Sharkey Transportation and Sisbro, inc. for a combined total of 17 years in the office. I started in fuel and miles and made my way up to Rate Clerk.
I know Jack Sharkey and Bill Russell very well. They are good, fair people as is the company. This report filed by a truck driver is as simple as it sounds. Apparently she didn't get exactly what she wanted and got angry and filed this un-true report.
Sharkey and Sisbro are fine companies to work for as are most companies in Quincy, IL. Quincy is a "Normal Rockwell" community with good people.
I just hope people don't believe everything they read in her report. And I hope they do take time to read the rebuttals.

I am an educator in Quincy, and employed as an administrator at a local college. I am proud to say that I enjoy an excellent personal and professional repuation in Quincy, and nationally. I am also quite proud to say I have known Jack Sharkey and Bill Russell personally and professionally for more than 15 years. I am quite familiar with Sharkey Transportation and its affiliated companies, as well as most trucking firms of any size nationwide. I am an officer in a number of national trucking and educational organizations. Prior to becoming an educator, I accumulated 1.5 million miles as a driver. I know a little bit about them.

To the point: Jack Sharkey and Bill Russell are two of the only people I've known in my lifetime I am comfortable doing business with on a handshake. They are both hard-working men who have earned reputations as some of the fairest and most honest people in an industry where those traits, at times, seem hard to find. I know many of their drivers, a lot of whom are long-time company drivers and owner-operators, and I have yet to hear a negative word about either of these men.

I resent your unfounded and ridiculous opinions, and suggest that you are one of those drivers who loves to blame everyone else for their own shortcomings. I challenge you to post a) your resume; and/or b) some form of substantiation for your inflamatory remarks. I further challenge you to accept some responsibilty (long word- look it up) for your own personal failures, work to improve yourself, and you might someday find out that working beats whining any day of the week.
